This book was such a gift of God’s grace to me. I resonate with so much of what Carmichael wrote, and her steadfastness and abounding hope gave me an aspiration for my prayers.

“You won’t be sorry then that you trusted when you couldn’t see, when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared and no small tempest lay on you (Acts 27:20). No, you won’t be sorry then. So I won’t be sorry now. I am believing.”

“We are meant to follow His steps, not avoid them… It is no small gift of His love, this opportunity to be offered upon the sacrifice and service; something you would not naturally choose, something that asks for more than you would naturally give. That’s the proof of His love. So rejoice! You are giving Him what He asks you to give Him: the chance to show you what He can do.”

This was a timely read for me when I read it. Small, but powerful.

I read this when I was a senior in high school. It is amazing in depth and perspective. The older I get, the more I understand how much truth was in Amy Carmichael's writings.

Great little book of excerpts from letters Amy Carmichael wrote. It's full of encouragement and wisdom. I'm sure I'll turn back to again and again.

This was a gift from a friend, and sadly, I allowed it to sit on my chair-side table for too long before I picked it up. This little book consists of excerpts from letters written by missionary Amy Carmichael when she was bedridden from an injury. She could not do any of her "regular" work, so she turned to prayer, study and a letter writing ministry. These little excerpts are filled with gems and insights into life and God's Word, drawn from her own experience of suffering. She was confined to her room for the last twenty years of her life, until her death in 1951, in constant pain. Yet she was able to write such beautiful words as "So I shall ask for you tranquil faith, radiant peace. 'They looked unto Him and were radiant.' That radiance does not depend upon circumstances." That is a truth she believed, and one which she lived.

This book is so short & simple, yet it took me so long to read because of how rich it is. It is not a book to sit down and consume in one sitting; it is a book you must put down to then visit again later on whenever the time feels right. This book is full of countless golden nuggets. Amy's words are just so beautiful and true and her love for God is powerful and inspiring. This is a book I will come back to again and again and again happily so.

One of the most encouraging books I've read :) Amy Carmichael has such a gift of knitting words together and shares so many deep insights through these letters. Her deep relationship with her Savior shines through each letter and has helped me in my own relationship with God. I've read this and reread this and will keep rereading this book because I find so much comfort and inspiration from its pages.

I always go back and read Amy Carmichael’s letters during hard times to see and read Amy’s letters to friends when they were struggling and even during joyous times. But each time I am always touched by people who went through these hard times because they had the Lord guiding them and a dear friend writing them words of encouragement.

This is one of my go-to’s. I have had to re-order it due to marks, notes, AMEN!s and just the notes of general encouragement contained for someone with chronic debilitating illness. This is one of my favorite all-time books!!

Amy Carmichael couldn't have weaved more beautifully God's Word and her day to day exeperiences and reflection. There was not a letter meant to be sent for me, but I was all the same encouraged, enlightened, and strengthened by all. She is, as seen and felt through her writings, His ardent lover, the kind she spoke of to have set others like me on fire.
