I'm a stick-in-the-mud bible reader. Once I find one I like I'm not keen on switching to another, never mind that the actual scripture is the same. It's all the extras that sell me on a particular version and the proclamation on this KJV Know the Word Study Bible -- "Gain a greater understanding of the bible, book by book, verse by verse, topic by topic" intrigued me so I thought I'd give it a try and am I ever glad I did!

First off, all the extra content in this study bible is super reader-frien I'm a stick-in-the-mud bible reader. Once I find one I like I'm not keen on switching to another, never mind that the actual scripture is the same. It's all the extras that sell me on a particular version and the proclamation on this KJV Know the Word Study Bible -- "Gain a greater understanding of the bible, book by book, verse by verse, topic by topic" intrigued me so I thought I'd give it a try and am I ever glad I did!

First off, all the extra content in this study bible is super reader-friendly. No quaking in my boots with dictionary in hand trying to figure out what some scholar has to say about Paul. Plain and simple is the way I like it and that's just what this bible delivers.

True confession. I've only read the bible cover to cover once and that was more about being able to brag that I did (I was young and foolish) than about seeking a deeper understanding. I'm older and wiser now but I haven't attempted another cover-to-cover reading. I've been content to meander around the various books in the bible on a whim or in pursuit of information on a certain subject. So, naturally, I thought the topic-by-topic feature offered in the KJV Know the Word Study Bible would hold the greatest appeal.

Guess what? I was totally wrong! I am actually over-the-moon crazy about the book-to-book feature! And I can seriously see myself reading the bible cover to cover again, only this time getting a whole lot more out of it! And that's because the authors have made scripture so much more approachable. Lots of plain speak and valuable context and bringing scripture to life in a new way.

So, it works like this. Each book starts with a brief (like 2 or 3 sentences) summary so you can get your bearings. Then there's a Study the Book Highlights insert which simply lists the important scriptures in that book. So in 1st Timothy it's "Paul warns against false teachers (1:3-15)" and "Guard your heart against greed (6:6-10)" And yes, I had this wicked thought -- if you wanted to cheat you could just skip to those sections -- egads, did I just say that out loud? Yes, I did, and what's worse I meant it. :-)

Now when you get to one of those highlight scriptures there's another Study the Book insert that explains in more detail, bringing more insight than if you just read a few lines of verse. I guess what I like the most about this study bible's approach is that it makes me think. I can't just skim a verse and call it a day. There so much more that beckons to me. Entices me to stay awhile. Ponder more deeply. And it's all delivered in digestible doses that make me feel like I just might have the potential to become a biblical scholar some day after all.

I love Bibles, and my favorite version is the King James Bible. So, I was eager to review Know The Word Study Bible.

The pros: I liked the book by book, verse by verse and topic by topic sections, and the fact that it is compact enough to carry around with you. My personal favorite is the Introduction and Notes.

I am so very honored and happy to have the opportunity to share with you this new release of a King James Version of God's Word. Thomas Nelson Publishing always does a wonderful job of producing Bibles and this edition is no exception. My review is not intended to focus on arguing the pros or cons of a KJV translation but is simply to present my review of this study Bible and utilization of it as a study Bible.

The beauty and timeless accuracy of the King James Version continues to ring true and I am so very honored and happy to have the opportunity to share with you this new release of a King James Version of God's Word. Thomas Nelson Publishing always does a wonderful job of producing Bibles and this edition is no exception. My review is not intended to focus on arguing the pros or cons of a KJV translation but is simply to present my review of this study Bible and utilization of it as a study Bible.

The beauty and timeless accuracy of the King James Version continues to ring true and bring joy to this reader. I enjoyed using this Know the Word Study Bible as the verse-by-verse feature allowed clarifying insights into a variety of facts and information tied to specific verses - material that is both new to me and as reminders of previously gleaned knowledge.

Throughout the Bible there were inserts with topical material. The Topic by Topic articles are indexed at the beginning of the Bible and give the page that particular material can be found on. Maps found at the back of the Bible are typical and as usual interesting for those who enjoy visualizing the location of Biblical events. I found the map showing the actual locations of events in the life of Christ particularly interesting as well as the missionary journeys of Paul.

This is not a comprehensive study Bible. I personally believe the intended reader audience is probably those relatively new to the study of God's Word. That is not to negate the inclusive study material that supports the Biblical text, it is simply that the material is not as in depth as that which a seasoned student of Scripture would desire. It certainly is not on a level that a pastor or theologian would desire for personal use. It is a study Bible in that it offers information to aid in understanding one's reading of Scripture and lead the reader into deeper study utilizing these materials as well as more comprehensive aides.

Do I recommend this KJV Know the Word Study Bible? Absolutely! I love the KJV. I encourage everyone to find a study Bible that suits their particular level of Biblical knowledge. I believe this Study Bible will benefit many users. A large contingency of Bible readers prefer the NIV or some other translation. I encourage students of The Word to delve into the KJV along with whatever version you normally prefer for comparative reading. On a further note: the Know the Word Study Bible also comes in the NKJV version.

I liked how this Bible is done. It makes it very easy to read and study the Word. The explanations and descriptions given help you understand if needed. As I read it, I thought this would be good for both a young christian and someone just trying to gain more understanding. You can study topics or books of the Bible and it is laid out so that it is simple to follow. I always love looking through the maps in a Bible and love how colorful they are. Overall, I really liked this one!

I love anything that breaks the bible down so I can unpack the verses and learn more about what God is saying. This was a wonderful tool to add to my bible study references. It has great colorful maps at the end of the book. Sometimes the KJV can be hard to break down, but the foot notes and breakdowns helped me to understand it.

This is a beautiful study Bible that you can't go wrong purchasing if you love the KJV translation Bible. I love reading the Bible. There is so much based on historical and archaeological evidence that to question its relevance in the world today, would be a huge mistake. In fact many libraries, museums and even archaeologists reference the Bible because its accuracy can't be questioned. From the ancient civilizations founded at the beginning of the world in Mesopotamia according to our history books, evidence has been found, and continues to be found to support every single book of the Bible. Makes I love reading the Bible. There is so much based on historical and archaeological evidence that to question its relevance in the world today, would be a huge mistake. In fact many libraries, museums and even archaeologists reference the Bible because its accuracy can't be questioned. From the ancient civilizations founded at the beginning of the world in Mesopotamia according to our history books, evidence has been found, and continues to be found to support every single book of the Bible. Makes you wonder why there are so many wanting to keep people from reading its very contents to see what it contains. Others make a mockery of it, calling it a random library of ancient made up myths from men in the desert who rode camels. Funny how this very book is the most published book in all of history and yet it continues to change lives forever.

This will be my 4th time reading it from cover to cover and what I have found is that each time, I gain greater understanding of what it going on in my life at the time, and how I can work through it. Think of it as our book of instructions if you will to get you through life. What I have found that benefits me is reading a different version each time and following up what I don't understand with a Bible Commentary. It makes it come alive in new and exciting ways because that is the beauty of God's Word. It is a living document of our entire past and our future that awaits us all.

I have been using the Know the Word Study Bible in the King James Version during my morning reading time because it helps you understand more of what your reading in vastly different ways. You can read it book by book which is how I have been doing it, but more along the lines of the chronological way the events happened, or you can just study the Bible verse by verse or even topic by topic. I find most people gravitate to the Bible by the topic at hand in their life the most when they reference it, like a quick answer guide of sorts. The King James Version is probably one of the most accurate versions of the Bible based on its interpretations from the the Greek and Aramaic texts found within the Dead Sea Scrolls word for word. For those new to reading the Bible, this version might turn you off, because it is like reading Romeo and Juliet from Shakespeare's old English interpretation. There are a lot of thee's and thous, with might frustrate a new time reading it.

However whatever version you choose, you can find valuable insights into every version. What I love about this version is the More Insight sections you find scattered throughout. It's like having a commentary right there and also provides you with additional resources to study in the Bible that will make the topic a bit more clear to the reader. I love following references that will help me understand what I am reading a bit more. Like a sequel to the book almost! Its almost like getting a commentary all in one place. There are also great resources included in this Bible, like full color maps, which I love to use to see where these places were in the past as compared to now, a concordance, which allows you to look up specifics words like "love," or "angels," to see where in the Bible these topics are referenced. This also includes Jesus' words in red so you can separate what others say compared to the exact words He spoke. Like most Bibles, I love the hard cover format. It makes it easy to keep your notes all tucked in one place and use for note taking by having something hard to write on in church.

This Bible is not for someone who has a lot of Biblical knowledge already. I think between the title of it and the words "Gain a Greater Understanding of the Bible" that is a given.

I read through a couple books I had memorized in high school, and I thought the comments were great. One of the problems I found with this Bible, however, is I couldn't find who authored these things. I have a couple concerns about this. One I received a copy of this Bible free in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This Bible is not for someone who has a lot of Biblical knowledge already. I think between the title of it and the words "Gain a Greater Understanding of the Bible" that is a given.

I read through a couple books I had memorized in high school, and I thought the comments were great. One of the problems I found with this Bible, however, is I couldn't find who authored these things. I have a couple concerns about this. One, if you handed this to a new Christian who didn't have a church background, might they think the topic by topic articles were part of Scripture? Secondly, without knowing who wrote these sections and notes, we don't know their church background. Denominations can have very different sets of beliefs. I know there were passages explained in the notes that I didn't agree with. I liken it to the idea of you can't please all the people all the time. Still, I think at least knowing the church background of whoever wrote the notes would be helpful. There are several different "camps" in Protestant Christianity, and I wonder if when these are handed to new Christians (as I expect will be their main purpose.) if the people will have really looked through it thoroughly.

That said, I think most Protestants would agree with nearly everything mentioned in this study Bible. (I'm one of those who has a slight different belief about some things.) This would be a great Bible for a new Christian or someone who has grown up in church but has not really taken much time to study the Bible. There are three study methods:

Book by Book
Verse by Verse
Topic by Topic

While I don't think it really does any of these Bible study methods justice, I do think it accomplishes its purpose -- helping to TEACH HOW to study the Bible.

I don't see this as an ideal Bible for anyone who has been a Christian for a long time, but it's an excellent resource for someone who either is a new Christian, or has never grown in their faith since becoming a Christian.

I also am not sure a concordance is needed in Bibles anymore, especially since it is available on Kindle. I expect most people would look up verses electronically these days. I would have rather have seen those pages (nearly 80 pages) used on things that I feel would be more useful to new Christians such as Bible reading plans -- I first read through the entire Bible because of a reading plan in the back of a Bible I owned -- also more information on the culture, times, history of the Bible, a more extended map section (there are only seven maps).

For all the problems I point out, I definitely have to say this is certainly a Bible to consider giving to someone who is wanting to learn more about the Bible but isn't sure where to start. I would have loved this when I was young teen and was basically using the method of opening the Bible randomly and reading something and that would be my Bible "study".

It's a great Bible for what it is intended to be, and I think that's all we can really ask of any study Bible. ...more

As of right now, this Bible comes in Hardback and eBook format. I love this study Bible so much that I have added it to my daily Bible studies as one of the two Bibles I consult (I also use an ESV study Bible). I received a free copy of this study Bible from Thomas Nelson Publishers. In no way has this influenced my opinion. I’ve never reviewed a Bible before, so I’m going to do this a little differently than my typical fiction reviews. In this review, I am going to discuss PROS vs. CONS.

PROS:
1. I love that this Bible lays flat. This may be a minor thing to like, but I can’t stand when I’m deep into a Bible study and my pages are all over the place because the Bible’s spine is not a lay-flat spine. It’s frustrating when you’re on a roll in your studies and then realize your page is missing because your Bible closed on you!

2. I love the study notes at the bottom of each page. Some seriously interesting facts are included. For example, what you see in the pictures are my notes in Jonah. I’ve read Jonah many times for various studies, and thought I knew Jonah pretty well. This Bible is a WORD study Bible, which means it teaches about the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek as Jesus would have been familiar with in His day. In Jonah 1, the Gentiles on the boat with Jonah have a conversion moment. Later in Jonah, the Ninevites have a conversion moment, too. According to the study notes, the Hebrew word used when the Gentiles on the boat have their conversion refers to a total heart transformation, but the Hebrew word used later for the Ninevites illustrates a temporary heart transformation, which is why the Ninevites are later brought to destruction. We don’t see any of this in the English translation though!

3. I love the information inserts on many of the pages throughout each book. They add to the passages thematically, historically, etc. I feel these information inserts are very helpful in personal and small-group Bible studies.

CONS:
1. This Bible comes in a KJV translation only, which is not my favorite. I find it hard to interpret and cumbersome.

2. This Bible is severely limited in space. There is very little room for annotations and comments, hence the Post-it Note.

Overall Impression:
I really like this Bible, and already include it as part of my daily Bible studies. I think the knowledge gained through the study notes at the bottom of each page make my CONS insignificant. I am a firm believer that multiple translations should be used during Bible study, unless you are fluent in Hebrew. If you are, then you should read God’s Word in God’s language. But, if you are like me and foreign languages confound you, then I do recommend you add this translation to your current repertoire. ...more

This is the third Bible I have reviewed here for you guys here on the blog. This study Bible would work nicely for anyone that is wanting to start studying the scriptures. It offers a few different ways to study God's Word as you read along. If you enjoy a taking each book and diving in then the publishers have done a nice job of providing a section at the beginning of each book that has a summary of that book and offers tips and direction on how to study that particular book.

For those that enjoy more of a verse by verse breakdown and study, this Bible provides that also. Throughout each of the 66 books, this Bible offers footnotes on some verses that may help you shed some light on that particular verse. I will say that with the description of this book saying "verse by verse" that I expected a lot more footnotes than there actually were. Don't get me wrong it was nice having some of the verse in each chapter covered, but when it comes to a verse-by-verse study, I think I was expecting more of break down on the verses oppose to your typical footnotes, but that is not the case.

Yes, I understand that if they actually provided long detailed footnotes and on every single scripture then the book itself would be huge, but I just assumed that there would be a lot more by the way the cover says "verse by verse". Maybe that is just me though. Again, not a bad review point, just one point I wanted to mention.

Lastly, and easily my favorite, there is the Topical Study guide in this Study Bible. I have always been one that loves turning to the Bible for direction in my everyday life. We all go through things in our life that leaves us searching for guidance and wisdom, so when I have those times I love turning to my Bible. Having the option of searching by topic and using the Concordance in the back is a great tool that I loved in this Bible.

Overall I think this is a nice study Bible and I will get a lot of use out of it in my personal devotional time. If you enjoy studying the scriptures and diving in a little deeper to God's Word then this would be a nice Bible to pick up and have on hand. I feel like this would also make a nice gift for those that are just starting to study deeper in the scriptures also. If I had to mention anything that I would change it would be making the text larger and perhaps more of the verse by verse notes, but neither of those would stop me from recommending this KJV of the Know the Word Study Bible.

My Thoughts:
I love reviewing Bibles. I love reading and pouring over the various translations. I love seeing how the Bibles are arranged, as far as supplemental information. I love reading about the original manuscripts or texts used for a particular Bible. And, I love reading God's Word. My favorite Bible translations are King James Version, New King James Version, English Standard Version, and Christian Standard Bible. I prefer to have a hardcopy of the Bible. I know many people love having t My Thoughts:
I love reviewing Bibles. I love reading and pouring over the various translations. I love seeing how the Bibles are arranged, as far as supplemental information. I love reading about the original manuscripts or texts used for a particular Bible. And, I love reading God's Word. My favorite Bible translations are King James Version, New King James Version, English Standard Version, and Christian Standard Bible. I prefer to have a hardcopy of the Bible. I know many people love having the Bible on their cell phone or tablet. My pastor gives his sermon using an IPad. A few of my favorite online Bible sites are Bible Gateway, Bible Study Tools, Bible, ESV, CSBible, and YouVersion.
Although I did not give KJV, Know The Word Study Bible an excellent rating. I did give it a very good rating.
Reasons for a favorable rating:
•Easy to read type-font in bold print.
•Introduction page for all the Bible books.
•Study Bible explanatory footnotes located at the bottom of the Bible pages. The print in this section is small but readable.
•Topic-by-Topic Articles. Examples of these articles: "The Holy Spirit-Agent in Creation," "People Are God's Prized Creation," "The Bible is to be Stored," and "God's Will." The topics are broken down and dispersed through the whole Bible to give an "entire sweep of Scripture."
•Highlighted areas in the Bible titled "Study The Book." From Matthew 26:26-29, "The Lord's Supper is a sacred practice." From 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, "Every member of the church matters."
•78 pages of concordance.
My review copy is hardcover. Behind the glossy book cover flap is a dark gray cloth over board. The book easily lays open flat. The pages are off white and matte. This last observation is beneficial, because the pages do not have a glare to them from the sun or bright light. The pages are easy to turn.
The KJV, Know The Word Study Bible is not a journaling Bible. The pages are too thin for painting and coloring. There is scant amount of space for writing---1/2 inch width on all margins of pages.
The Bible does not have a foreword section---giving information about the original texts used for this Bible. The foreword is brief, only giving information about Thomas Nelson's supplemental material for this Bible. The foreword contains 1 1/4 pages.
I consider the KJV, Know The Word Study Bible to be a modest study Bible. This is not a bad thing. It is not equivalent to the ESV Study Bible which is thorough. The KJV, Know The Word Study Bible is a beginning study Bible---for an audience of KJV Bible reader's who do not want a large amount of study material to read through, but with an emphasis on the King James Version with supplemental notes.

The strength of this study Bible is found in the emphasis on studying the scripture from both a broad scope and a narrow lens. Using the classic KJV translation will be a selling point for readers who have come to relish the classic, poetic language offered by the King James Version. I hav The KJV Know The Word Study Bible by Thomas Nelson Publishers is a decent study Bible for newcomers to the Christian faith or those seeking to study the Bible from a book-by-book or topic-by-topic perspective. The strength of this study Bible is found in the emphasis on studying the scripture from both a broad scope and a narrow lens. Using the classic KJV translation will be a selling point for readers who have come to relish the classic, poetic language offered by the King James Version. I have been searching for a strong study Bible in the KJV for years, so the Know The Word Study Bible was certainly of interest.

From my perspective, the KJV Know The Word Study Bible did not meet my expectations. I made use of it in two ways: for in-depth sermon prep and to read through the book of Hosea. The book-by-book notes were helpful in giving the context of the books, but there were not nearly the amount of text helps as seen in other study Bibles such as: the ESV Study Bible, Reformation Study Bible, or the NIV Zondervan Study Bible. The topic-by-topic notes were beneficial throughout the biblical text to engage readers in the various themes encountered in each book of the Bible. Personally, however, the disappointment came in the verse-by-verse study notes. Also, There were numerous times when a difficult verse or concept in the biblical text was not addressed in the notes. In areas where other study Bibles present several sentences of explanation—including opposing viewpoints on an interpretation—the KJV Know The Word Study Bible did not offer much assistance. On a final note, I could not seem to find a list of contributors to this study Bible, which is often necessary information in the selecting a study bible.

Overall, the KJV Know The Word Study Bible is a helpful resource for basic Bible study. It could prove helpful for new believers and readers who prefer a study Bible with fewer notes than others listed above, though I would probably choose the KJV Reformation Heritage Study Bible or the KJV Macarthur study Bible. Those seem to be stronger options for my Bible study needs.

This "KJV Know the Word Study Bible" gives a short summary of each of the Bible books before the Scriptures related to those books starts, those sections also contain information on how to study each of the Bible books and highlights for studying the books. Throughout the Scriptures for all the Bible books there are study notes at the bottom of the pages usually on the same pages as the Bible verses they explain; there is also some devotion-like information on some of the pages throughout the Sc This "KJV Know the Word Study Bible" gives a short summary of each of the Bible books before the Scriptures related to those books starts, those sections also contain information on how to study each of the Bible books and highlights for studying the books. Also included is a Topic-by-Topic Article listing, Tables of Weights and Measures, a Concordance, and some colored maps.

I read through the Bible book of Revelation when reviewing this Bible. I noticed that the study notes at the bottom of the page are in order of the Scriptures although not every single verse is explained. I learned that there are three statements about "finishing"in the Bible from the study notes for Revelation 21:6. The first time was when Jesus was on the cross in John 19:30, the second is at the end of the wrath of God in Revelation 16:17, and the third is in Revelation 21:6.

I didn't notice many thou and thee's in this translation so it could be that I'm not noticing them as much and I'm getting used to the KJV translation more.

I liked that the notes at the bottom of the Scripture pages highlight certain words in those Scriptures and explain them within the notes and that the notes were kind of brief and sometimes highlighted other Scriptures. I like that Jesus' words are in red in this Bible as well. I also like that there are headings with the Scriptures in this Bible to explain what each portion of Scripture is about so people will know when a part of Scripture starts and stops related to what the Scripture portions are about.

I Love Study Bibles because they offer so much more than a regular bible. This one is sturdy and well organized. I loved the way they go deeper with some scriptures. They go further and give you a section called more insight. Oh how I love the words written in red. I don’t find that in many bibles anymore. Many of you have your favorite version of the Bible, but this review is only to tell you the extra features this bible has in store for its readers.

Have you ever noticed how no two Bibles feel the same when you pick them up? I don't mean in weight, or in heft, but they all have different features. While the books of the actual Bible are in the same order, the notes, maps, explanations, and more make each version unique.

I do read the Bible, but I am picky when it comes to which Bible I want to read from, etc. When it comes to reading, understanding, and studying the Bible, and it's contents, messages, lessons, etc.. you need a Bible you can do that with and not just any Bible will do that. This study Bible is a beautiful hard-bound cloth covered Bible. It has gold lettering on the cloth cover and a dust jacket to protect it. It has the usual presentation page, table of contents, full-color maps and red letter words of Jesus.

I have truly appreciated the commentary & insight provided within this study Bible. If you are like me and don't typically read KJV (I personally use ESV as my main translation when reading & studying the Word of God), it is still a great resource. As the title states, this is a “know” the word study Bible, and yes it is a Bible, but it offers so much more.
Depending on how you like to study, and I like to research as I read, this bible has it all right at your figure tips. I have my concordance, and this has it all built in, along with beautiful maps to follow.
