Bug Girl #2

Bug Girl: Fury on the Dance Floor

Being a superhero isn't easy. But surviving a middle school dance? That's when things get really hard...

Amanda Price never dreamed she'd turn into Bug Girl, a hero with the powers of the insect kingdom. She also never dreamed it would be this difficult.

Turns out superpowers aren't much help with Geri, the new bully terrorizing the seventh grade. Or with Emily. She's supposed to be Amanda's partner in crime-fighting, but she's too busy freaking out about the upcoming dance.

When a mystery monster appears in town and seventh graders start disappearing, Bug Girl needs Emily's help more than ever. Soon both girls are tangled in a dastardly scheme--and the fate of their school, their town, and their very lives will be decided on the dance floor.

Bug Girl: Fury on the Dance Floor is Benjamin Harper's and Sarah Hines Stephen's buzz-worthy, hilarious superhero sequel to the original middle grade novel Bug Girl--and it's packed with illustrations and real bug facts.

I read the second book of the Bug Girl series before the first one, but I still felt like I got into the story fairly quickly. I loved Bug Girl: Fury on the Dance Floor! The story was clever and humorous.
In the previous book, Amanda and Emily discovered that they have super hero moms, and they have super powers too! In Fury on the Dance Floor, Emily has abandoned her friend and rejoined the popularity crowd for reasons that are unbeknownst to Amanda. Luckily, Amanda has Vincent and other nerdy yet loyal friends to lean on. One day, a new girl named Geri shows up to school and begins to torment her fellow classmates. What’s worse is that Emily becomes friends with her!
Besides Geri and Emily, Amanda also deals with other problems, such as protecting the city’s polluted lake. Because she has bug super powers, Amanda adores all creatures, and it hurts her to see careless people destroy the lake’s ecosystem. Then popular girls start mysteriously disappearing from school. Amanda and Vincent work together to investigate and determine which villain may be behind this scheme, but to get any farther, they need Emily’s help! Unfortunately, she is too busy planning for the school’s upcoming disco dance.
Middle schoolers will be able to relate with both narrators. Preteens often feel like their friends have outgrown them, as Amanda experiences. Emily’s experience is relatable as well—she is jealous that Amanda is better than her. Bug Girl: Fury on the Dance Floor deals with the competition and cattiness that is prevalent in junior high. Young teens will root for the good guys to defeat the bully in this unpredictable and super tale of friendship and compassion.

“Nope. It’s not over by a long shot.”
Amanda is has just got the hang of this whole super hero thing. She’s mean, she’s lean, she’s Bug Girl! The only thing stopping her from kicking villain butt, however, is her partner, Emily. Emily doesn’t have any interest in being a superhero, but according to their trainers, Amanda and Emily have to work together. When Amanda makes a new friend, and discovers that a factory has been putting hazardous waste into the local pond, she quickly discovers that she can’t wait for Emily anymore. But when girls begin to disappear from school, Amanda realizes that she might need Emily’s help.
“‘But I think it’s high time we fix a few things around here.’”
Emily is the daughter of one of the most famous superheroes in the world. So why is it taking so long for her powers to develop? Amanda is already ahead of her in the powers department, and for once, Emily is jealous. Why isn’t she flying around, or saving the day? The only thing Emily seems to do, however, is lose her temper and cause an earthquake. Maybe she should quit while she’s ahead. Then Amanda starts telling her about a conspiracy theory she has. No thanks. Emily is busy trying to prove to herself that she’s still got it. But when your “friend “ is pushing all your buttons and plotting evil, do you stand in the sidelines, or do you fight?
“”Amanda wished she could grab her former friend’s hand and squeeze it-that the two of them could share the excitement.”
Told in two very different POV’s, a girl trying to make a difference, and a girl who’s trying to be normal, this book tells the story of how if two girls team up, anything is possible.
