I had a copy of this book as a child. I remember vividly how both illustrations and stories enthralled me, how some frightened me (but in doing so, fascinated me even more), how others marvelled me. The selection of stories is splendid, all thought-worthy and amusing for children and adults alike.
I was beyond happiness (brace yourselves: tedious, nostalgic rambling) when I stumbled upon this book, vaguely remembering a few, distinct stories and the style of the illustrations, the name of the author having obscured over time (or maybe I never bothered with suchlike facts as a child?) and my original, childhood copy since long gone, seemingly vanished without my knowing so, without a farewell it had left along with my days of innocence. I'll stop now, before this gets more ridiculous. Though, if one is intent on buying merely one single book for their child, this, in my opinion, should be that particular book.
Espero encontrarlo algun dia y leerselo a mi hija.
This is the very reason why I developed a voracious love for books. We had this when I was about five or six. T'was nice that I tumbled upon this book here in goodreads.
the joy, the elation, the excitement i felt when mama gave this to me on my 8th birthday is unmatched; she took me to readings and got me this mammoth of a book and its been my favourite throughout the years. fairy tales. i miss this book so much so much so much
I was born in '96 and after putting every keywords I can think of just to know the title of this book, I managed to succeed by adding that year in the search tab. I started learning how to read when I was 3 years old and someone gave this book to me as a present when I was born. This is the first book I've ever read and that's why I'm trying to look for it and buy it again just to read it for old times sake. I did not actually lose my book, my mom had me burn it when I was 5. She was a very religious lady and this she said was about witchcraft and devils and she wanted it not out of her house (trust me, I told her why not give it to someone else so they can read the book too) but to have it burned so as not to have the devil back in our house or something like that. That was first of the many books I have to burn myself to make her happy and safe coz there would be no more devil possession in her house. So, I know I just had to look for all those books I had burned after I move out from her house. I've been looking for this book for years and at last I finally found it. I'm literally a sobbing mess while I'm typing this. My memories about the stories are okay but what's clear to me are the illustrations. I remembered watching A.I. movie back in 2010??? and saw the illustration for the emperor's new clothes on the walls of the facility where the couple's son was admitted. And I was like, where have I seen that picture before, and I knew that moment that it was from this book. This is the book from my early memories. Thank you.

My grandmother had this book on her bookshelf meant for us grandkids. The first thing I always did in the morning when we visited her was to get it down (by whatever means necessary-- this meant a lot of stacking smaller books) and carry it over to an armchair in the living room, where I would promptly pull it into my lap and start to read. These tales and illustrations captivated me. This routine continued into my teens, and only now has it stopped because she gave the book to me!
This book has NICE ILLUSTRATIONS and in Am. English with a touch of Singaporean (British) English... can be converted into readers theatre...and in easy-to-read format. A perfect gift for your loved one this christmas. A must-have book.
I had this book ever since I was a kid, and I can still recall the drawings and how they're vividly etched in my mind. This book was my favorite. One of the classics on my bookshelf. I recommend this to parents who want to have their kids practice and love reading at an early age.
This was my absolute favourite book as a child and I still haven't found a collection of fairy tales that beats it. The illustrations are superb and I love how it includes lesser known fairy tales. If I ever have children, I am definitely getting another copy - tragically, my old one was destroyed.
One of my most prized posessions!! I have had this book since I was a kid. Its been through some hell but its become a family hand me down. My gram gave it to me and i will pass it along.
Fairy tales are awesome, not because of the happy ending. But because of the beauty in every protagonist. How they manage to stay kind despite all odds. The things that keep them grounded, if that essence is missed, then the fairy loses its beauty.
The best part of Cinderella is the wisdom Cinderella's mothers passes on to her before she dies. The legacy of her life which is to "have courage and be kind", Cinderella follows that in her life even during testing times. But this fairy tale collection's version of Cinderella completely omitted that.
Not just in this story, in a lot of the stories in this book, the plot is right, but the beauty is missing.
My dad bought me a copy when I was a kid and I still have it. Back then I didn't appreciate it as i wasn't into reading stories until I grew a little older. I love the book and would re-read it from time to time. The illustrations are beautiful, too!
Holaa Les cuento que me encontré este libro con un vendedor ambulante, aprendí a leer con este libro, prácticamente quedo destrozado, tiene mucho valor sentimental para mi, estoy Feliz de reencontrarme con él. 😻
DNF not because it wasn’t good. My dad gave me this book when I was maybe 7 or 8, but I might have been too young for it then. Would love to get my hands on a copy again, and this time I’ll actually read it. From cover to cover.
Es un libro con cuentos muy diversos y fantásticos a mi hija le encantan, además muchos cuentos son de cultura popular pero si no hubiera sido por este libro no los conocería.
