A massive Christmas tree circled up to the dome, so laden with ornaments she could almost hear it groan.
I’m immune to you. I’ve developed antibodies against the virus that is James Armstrong.
I look forward to never seeing you again.
Jamie, if we’re going to judge on stereotypes you’d be grumpy and pasty and miserly and I’d be a kid with a bloated stomach and flies in my eyes.
That had gone so far beyond her expectations she couldn’t recall what she’d expected.
My Review:
I struggled with this book, valiantly I might add. It was laborious work, as I had no knowledge of the characters or experience with the previous installments in this series, which left me frequently at sea as I made my way through this complicated story with a full roster of complex and terse characters. Sigh, don’t get me wrong, this wasn’t a poorly written book, it just didn’t ring my bell. I enjoyed several of the storylines that I could follow but I couldn’t keep all the balls in the air, which left me feeling dim-witted and exhausted… I freely admit that I would make an extremely poor spy as I am far too lazy and wouldn’t be able to keep all the lies straight.
The main character of Samira had stumbled onto dangerous information through her deceased fiancé, information that had lead to his death and continued to place her life in jeopardy. She had been living in the shadows for over a year, which only heightened her already anxious nature. She was paranoid and prone to panic attacks as well as over thinking every single issue. She also repetitiously looped back to obsessive thoughts. She was not a character I could warm up to, and I really tried but I didn’t find her endearing; I found her tiresome. But of course, I would adore the flawed yet protective male lead of Jamie with his lovely Scottish burr – yummy. Too bad they spent 95% of the book fighting their attraction.
Over a year ago, Computer Hacker Samira Desta uncovered information about a conspiracy that ended with her fiancé's death. She has been in hiding for over a year, staying off the grid and hoping no one notices her. When she receives a postcard from an ally, Samira knows she has to get to London fast. When she arrives at the London Train Station, she is sure someone is following her. Legionnaire Jamie Armstrong has been sent to extract Samira before she is discovered by the men who want her dead. He hasn't forgotten Samira since they shared one unforgettable night together. Now Jamie and Samira must work together to fight a common enemy.
We met both Jamie and Samira in book two of the Legionnaires series. Samira was fighting for her life, trying to get herself and her friend out of Ethiopia. Jamie was one of the men who were sent in to help them. Now they're working together again, trying to stay one step ahead of the bad guys who seem to always be right behind them.
This book was non-stop action right from the start. I loved the characters and I loved the plot. Both Jamie and Samira have problems to overcome. At some points I just wanted to say "get over it". Lucky for me they did. I highly recommend the whole series and hope the author will continue writing more books in this series. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
This is an action packed, fast paced and intriguing romantic suspense. It is the third and concluding book in The Legionnaires series but I have to say that it worked well as a standalone as I hadn’t read the earlier books in the series.
Samira Desta is a skilled computer security expert, developing systems to thwart hackers and others determined to infiltrate networks and an expert hacker and app developer. She has been in hiding for a year because her fiancé, Latif, discovered a presidential candidate was responsible for organising terrorist type attacks, murders and more. Unfortunately her fiancé was killed so she’s been on her own most of the time since then except when being guarded by Legionnaire Jamie Armstrong for a very short time. It was during that time that the attraction between the two developed but circumstances, fears and further danger forced them apart. She’s been living in different parts of Europe and when her Italian refuge is attacked she is on the move again, determined to keep safe. This is the start of a desperate attempt to stay alive and thwart the corrupt politician. As she works with the few people she trusts she’s put into even more danger but Jamie is there to support her. Can the two survive and find the evidence to bring the presidential candidate to justice?
The two characters are well developed with significant back stories which impinge on their actions and interactions. There’s drama throughout the story that will keep readers on the edge of their seat and turning pages - there are no dull moments in this story! It is an intense and thrilling story that I didn’t want to put down and it has a truly climactic ending. I hadn’t read anything by this author before but I’ll certainly be looking out for more by her in future!
I requested and was given a copy of this novel, via NetGalley, with no obligation. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series. And, while this book stands alone, I think it's easier to find the flow of this novel if you've read the previous books. I did miss book 2 and 2.5 so that may explain part of why I just didn't get into this as much as I wanted to.
It's a good story with strong characters. From the first page, things are moving and in flux. Samira is in hiding. Someone wants her dead and the information she can access destroyed. She's been hiding for a year and uses her paranoia to help her survive. A computer expert, she gets technology and she uses that to help her plan ahead and get away from those that chase her. But from the moment she is running again, things are a mess going from bad to worse. Enter a lover from a year ago and things could get interesting.
Jamie is a legionnaire. Choices in his past have left him a solider hiding from his pain. Yeah, he slept with Samira and he really hopes she doesn't bring that up. He's there to get her to a friend and then he's out of there. But his past keeps popping up until he can't keep things from Samira. But he'll do what it takes to keep her safe.
I like both characters. They are well written. The story flows along fine. I guess my issue is that this story is heavy on the suspense and light on the romance. And I really am a romance reader at heart. So, while I enjoy suspense around my romance, I prefer more romance than this one offers.
If you've followed the series or the author, you're going to love it. If you are a suspense reader that doesn't mind a little romance on the side, you'll love it. But as for this reader, it just wasn't as good as I wanted it to be.

Kelly is a new to me author not having read the previous books in the Legionnaires series since I didn’t know A Risk Worth Taking was part of one. As I got into the book I realized there was a lot of background information I was missing. While some of it was slipped in during the telling there was a lot that wasn’t which made it a more difficult read.
The story is a romantic suspense and starts out in Tuscany where Samira is isolated and has been in hiding. While she is forced to run again she has no idea what she’ll be up against with few people to support her or for her to turn to and trust. Jamie, her one night stand from a year ago, becomes her knight in shining armor or does he, when she gets herself to London. He has his own demons that he’s battling and does a good job of hiding them or does he? Samira has panic attacks and not at the most opportune moments.
The descriptions of the land, the homes and hotel along with the chases, the deception, the crimes and criminal elements made me feel like I was there – whether in Tuscany, London or Scotland! Taking down a major American politician isn’t easy. There’s a lot of cyber intrigue going on that was sometimes difficult to follow not only by me but Jamie too. My heart was often in my throat not knowing what would happen next. Would the good guys be able to keep one step ahead of the bad guys or are they outplayed and out numbered? There’s family and friends, colleagues, injuries, intrigue, fear, sadness, anger, hurt, accents, truths and lies along with some romance and even love. The story flowed smoothly for the most part except where I was missing key information. There is some closure but the book ended too abruptly for me. I would have loved an epilogue unless there are to be more books in the series.
I look forward to reading the other books in the Legionnaires series and hope I get the background information I’m looking for.
A Risk Worth Taking is definitely a book worth reading. It's a fast paced adventure that will suck you right in and hours will pass before you come up for air. The story involves Samira, a techie who is on the run because she is a witness in a conspiracy. When she gets a mysterious note telling her there is tangible evidence to help her come out of hiding, she finds it's not safe enough. Jamie comes to the rescue and will do anything to help her.
I did ultimately enjoy the story. I liked the fast pace of the story. It really took off running and didn't let up until the end. The characters are constantly on the move. I felt like I was watching a Jason Bourne movie. I enjoyed the characters. Jamie was my favorite. I loved his humor. Samira was a fascinating character. She speaks many languages, is an amazingly smart hacker yet she also battles panic attacks. Unfortunately, they often crop up at the most inconvenient times. I would have liked to see a bit more romance between Jamie and Samira. I felt like she was still really pining for her dead fiance and it kept both of them from being all in. Their relationship lacked the heat I like to see in a romantic suspense.
This book is the third book in the series. Unfortunately, I don't think it held up very well as a stand alone. I did read the first book, Deception Island, but missed the second book, Edge of Truth. I definitely think I would have benefited from reading the preceding book. Honestly, I really had no clear understanding why Samira was in hiding throughout most of the story. I just knew who she was running from. I felt like the author was assuming I had prior knowledge of the story arc from the previous book. I would have liked more recap in the beginning. Despite that, I do recommend the book. It was an exciting read.
I wasn't aware until after I finished A Risk Worth Taking that it was the third book in a series. You can read it as a stand-alone with no problem but I enjoyed it so much that I plan on ordering the earlier books in the series.
The action in this novel starts on the first page and stays at a high level until the end. I must admit that I was tense throughout the entire book and couldn't it down until the end. Thanks to the publisher for this wonderful book that caused me to miss lots of sleep.
Samira is a computer expert with secret knowledge about a government official in the US. She has been in hiding for a year and as the book begins, her cover is blown and the bad guys are outside her hiding place. She manages to escape and when she gets to London, where she feels she'll be safe, she needs to be rescued again - this time by one of the Legionnaires - Jamie, who she had spent some time with earlier (I guess in one of the earlier books). As they both try to keep one step ahead of the people who want to kill her and keep her from sharing her files, the suspense ramps up and stays at a high level. At the same time, there is a sweet love story between Samira and Jamie.
This was a fantastic book. You won't want to skim it because there is so much suspense on every page. This is definitely a must read by a new amazing author.
I read an advance copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I really liked this one! I haven't really read any romantic suspense before so I was not really sure what to expect. A Risk Worth Taking is also a third book in this series so I was worried I might be confused by some things. I do think you can read this a standalone novel but I think you might benefit from reading the previous books as it seems to be a overarching story. But it is definitely not necessary.
I really liked Samira and Jamie and they were probably my favourtie part of the book! Jamie is Scottish and a super smart medic, and Samira is also super smart she is a brilliant hacker and it was fun to read the scenes were she was doing intense things with computers because I would have no idea how to do any of those things! I also loved the action scenes!
One thing is I kinda wish we got more romantic scenes or possibly just a longer one. I wanted a bit more in that department to see the main leads chemistry. I was also able to kinda see some stuff coming but overall I would recommend this one if you want to read a romantic suspense!
What first interest me about this book was the second-chance romance trope mixed with suspense. I was looking forward to seeing these two characters reconnecting while fighting for their lives. And although some of this reconnecting happens and there's plenty of fast-paced and action-packed scenes, the connection between Jamie and Samira wasn't really established for me to become invested in their relationship. Thankfully, the premise of the story was interesting and the writing was engaging and kept me interested in the outcome of the conflict.
All in all, an okay read with plenty of action and suspense.
Brynn Kelly is able to make characters who are in a fictional over the top world and make them feel real. They deal with real life issues that weighed down a persons mind and soul.
A Risk Worth Taking is a fast pace story that is able to focus on characters development while they are running from bullets.
This story can be read as a stand alone novel but it won't pack as much of a punch. Readers are in a wild ride that is worth of sleepless night.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Harlequin for the advance copy of Brynn Kelly A Risk Worth Taking (The Legionnaires #3)
Whew! I’ll admit this book had a sort of slow start for me, although it was still interesting. However, as I got further along in the story line I couldn’t put it down and ended up finishing it in one day!
A Risk Worth Taking quickly became a riveting page turner that kept me on edge. Filled with drama and action until the very end, we see just how far you have to go to expose the truth.
I love how well written this book is! The conversation flows seamlessly and the more sensual scenes were just enough to paint a picture without making the storyline turn into erotica.
This is one of the best romantic suspense novels I have read in a while, and I would definitely recommend this to lovers of the genre.
This was my first book I have read in a romance suspense and it didn’t disappoint! I loved the fast pace of it and the characters were awesome. I loved how the author packs a punch with them and keeps you on the edge!
I was given this as an ARC by the publisher and netgally for an honest review!
The third book in the Legionnaires series. I was so pleased to see that Samira takes center stage in here. This plot is a page-turner with a sexy hero. I've read them all so far and look forward to reading more by this fabulous author.
Brynn Kelly does it again with this third installment of the Legionnaires series.
The main characters are complex and interesting with back stories that contribute to the drama of the story. The action never stops and there are no dull moments.
I would suggest reading these novels in order as the drama that starts in installment 1 (Deception Island), continues in Legionnaires 2 (Edge of Truth) eventually comes to a tidy conclusion in A Risk Worth Taking.
A mile-a-minute thrill ride that had my heart pounding as well as breaking for our lovebirds, A Risk Worth Taking was romantic suspense done absolutely, wonderfully right.
From the very first book I read by Brynn Kelly (Deception Island) I was hooked on her style of writing. Gritty, emotional, exciting and full of vivid details, she brings each story and her memorable cast of characters to life on the pages. Now you can read each book in this series on their own, but I really think once you read one you won’t stop until you’ve made your way through every action-packed moment. Read More
Trust Brynn Kelly to make a full novel out of events spanning a couple of days. Of course, as expected the details in this book are precise.
This book is intense. Let me correct that, James Armstrong is intense. I mean his character leaps off the pages. You can feel his struggle and you can actually connect with his various personalities.
I'm not really feeling Samira even if I have a thing for female tech-geeks.
Hacker Samira Desta has been in hiding for the last year after her fiancé was killed in a drone attack, just as he was about to blow the lid off of the domestic cause behind a terror attack in LA. Only in contact with a few close friends via post cards and a few scant texts, she lives in a world of paranoia, isolation, and fear that keeps her moving from hideout to hideout, never staying in one place for too long since she thinks she will be taken out next. When her friend sends word that she must come to London to receive a “present” that Samira surely needs, she’s forced out of hiding when Italian cottage is ambushed in the middle of the night. Samira escapes and makes it to London, but she only made it out of the station in the heart of London thanks to Legionnaire Jamie Armstrong staging a giant diversion and rushing her away in the back of an ambulance.
With hired guns, who answer only to a superstar Senator with presidential aspirations, hot on their heals, an exciting car chase through the streets of London to lose the bad guys occurs. Samira can’t believe that Jamie is her savior–especially since she never thought she’d see him again after their hot night together in France. She feels like she’s still engaged to her murdered fiancé, so she’s confused by her reignited feelings for the sexy Legionnaire that’s full of surprises and secrets. And Jamie is equally conflicted about Samira, but he knows that he must keep her safe.
A Risk Worth Taking really delves into Jamie’s personal life and demons. When Samira and Jamie go on the run, they wind up at the hospital where Jamie first worked as a civilian, and they even hide in the cabin where his family vacationed each year. His complicated family life is revealed even further when they must rely on his sister for a ride back to Edinburgh. Jamie is the handsome, flirty, jokey man on the outside, but he harbors some serious issues on the inside–and it takes some serious digging and observation for Samira to get to the bottom of them.
While Samira is smart, studious, and very observant, she has a lot of issues as well. She has crippling panic attacks, but she doesn’t realize that she can push through them when she really needs to in order to survive or someone needs her. Her second guessing everything and indecision gets nothing done, especially when it comes to dealing with Jamie, and their burgeoning relationship suffers for it.
I give A Risk Worth Taking a four out of five. While this third installment can be read as a stand alone novel, I think I would have really enjoyed it more if I’d read the other two books in the Legionnaires series before tackling this one. This book is action packed, with the first twenty percent of the book being almost non-stop chase scenes with tiny breathers in between. I really enjoyed Samira and Jamie’s interactions, which is good since they spent a majority of the book together in danger and fleeing for their lives or fighting back. While this book is a little heavier on the suspense than the romance, the romantic parts were enjoyable even though they pushed each other away so much. The twists and turns leading to the exposure of the bad guy’s evidence of evil wasn’t too predictable, and I really enjoyed his ultimate downfall.
(Also on Bewitched Bookworms. Book received for free from publisher and TLC Book Tours in exchange for honest review.)
A Risk Worth Taking was jam packed with actions, twists, turns and guns. I have to admit at first it took me a while to get into the story, it was very descriptive and all about the action line, but as soon as things got real and Jamie appeared, it got way more interesting, and soon I was immersed in the story and dying to know the truth about everything.
Jamie and Samira already had a past; they had met once before and shared a night together that both of them never forgot, even in the midst of the chaos that was their lives. It was so fun to watch them hanging out and trying to fight the attraction between them and those feelings that were there. I loved watching them realize, little by little, that they wouldn't be able to say goodbye and turn their backs on each other once again.
When it comes to the action, it surprised me how much I ended up enjoying it. Yes, it's true I probably wouldn't have liked it much if there wasn't romance in the book, but there was and I ended up really enjoy it. There were twists and turns at every page, and it got more interesting at every flip of the page and with each new clue or secret unveiled. In the end, I was very pleasantly surprised and the unveiling of that last secret, WOAH! It got everyone shook, including me ahah.
If you enjoy the combo of action and romance, you'll probably love this book! So pick it up and then let me know if you enjoyed it or not, xo.
➳ARC kindly provided by author, in exchange for an honest review.
This is the third book in the Legionnaires series and normally I read books that are stand alone, but this one doesn't feel real stand alone. I felt out of place for the first third of the book because Jamie and Samira kept referring to time in France and I had no idea what had happened, so I've wondered if I would have liked them as a couple more had I had that back story. Probably not crucial but for a good chunk of the book I felt like I was missing part of the story, even the entire reason Samira is in hiding in the first place.
So we have Samira, seemingly in hiding, and she finds herself heading to London after her little home in Italy is rushed in the dark of the night. The book finds her being saved by Jamie and in the throes of an exciting get away chase through London in the back of an ambulance. We get snippets of Jamie's past life as people repay favors, to much chagrin, in order for him to get Samira to a safe spot... wherever that is. Lots of exciting suspense, chases, gun shots, drugs, and long simmering brewing romance between our two main characters.
For being a romantic suspense, I kind of wanted more romance but the suspense overtook it in this book. In the end Samira pulls it together but her character and the panic attacks were almost too much for someone who has been in hiding and in danger for so long. I liked Jamie, even with all of his faults, because his character felt realistic. Your heart breaks for him because you can tell he was meant to be a doctor but those opportunities are dashed because of poor choices in tense situations, which seems silly to say he went from a doctor to a soldier and that was an easier pace for him.
Overall I'm giving this one a solid 3.5 stars. I liked the book but I don't know that I have to run out to read the previous two or the next ones. I likely wouldn't turn them down but I'm not going to go out of my way to track them down. If you're a fan of romantic suspense or a political suspense with a little romance, this is your newest read.
"A Risk Worth Taking" was an intriguing romantic suspense that had me captivated from beginning to end. It feels like it is begging to be made into a movie! Although it's the third in a series, I started it without knowing that, and I absolutely did not feel like I was missing anything. Samira is a technology expert who has been on the run for a few years- ever since her fiance, Latif, turned whistle-blower. Unfortunately, his decisions led to his wrongful death, and Samira knows she will be next- if they can find her.
After an urgent postcard arrives from a friend she and Latif used to be closed to, Samira ventures out of hiding- and just in time- to figure out how to get the evidence they need to close the case. Luckily, when she lands in the UK, she is found by Jamie, a former fling after Latif's death. Still feeling engaged to Latif, Samira did not want to act on any more serious feelings. Together, Jamie and Samira follow the clues to get the evidence they need to prove wrongdoing and for her to finally be able to come out hiding.
Always on their toes, they are chased at every corner and must think fast to avoid capture. This was such an intense book that it was hard to put down! The suspense was absolutely there, and it felt in line with Jack Reacher and similar thrillers. And regarding the romance, there was was so much tension you could cut it with a knife! I almost wish there had been more of the romance, but the action really took the front seat- so much happening! This book was absolutely packed!
Overall, I think it was a great romantic suspense- I loved both the main characters, and their journey was absolutely enthralling. Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
When you take Samira Desta, a young woman determined to finish the mission of her deceased whistle-blower fiance and add the dash and quick thinking of Jamie Armstrong, a Scot and member of the Foreign Legion assigned to protect her and the mission outcome, what do you get? A novel of unrelenting suspense. And as the two flee the grasp of Senator Tristan Hyland and his thugs bent on stopping Samira, they learn opposites do attract. They acknowledge the attraction yet refuse to see the possibility of any future between them until danger tests them, forcing both to question a future without each other.
It is obvious the author researched or has personal knowledge of the intricacies of computer gaming/programming I lack. And I admit to skimming whenever Samira explained in detail what action she was taking on the her computer and why. Since Jamie admitted his ignorance of her actions, I didn't feel so bad.
And only one picky note. I couldn't help but notice how many times the various characters said 'wow'. If it had been a typical reaction of only Samira, I would've seen it as a character trait. But Jamie did the same and so did other characters. It got to the point that every 'wow' was jumping out at me and served to pull me out of the story for a second or two. I do understand a writer is so close to her own story it is hard to spot something so small that fresh eyes pick up immediately.
I do give this novel an A+ for unexpected twists and turns. And also high marks for sexual tension. I did not realize this was third in a series. I didn't feel I was missing any background information as I read so I do feel this works well as a stand alone.
Right from the start, A Risk Worth Taking stands out as an action-packed thrill ride with complex characterization and many exciting twists and turns. Readers are immediately drawn into skilled computer security expert Samira Desta’s dangerous and desperate plight to bring down a corrupt politician with eyes on a bid for the American presidency. A Senator with far-reaching ties and a man who will stop at nothing to protect his secrets and put an end to his detractors.
After the death—and suspected murder—of her fiancé, Samira has spent the past year in hiding, moving from place to place as she works to find more information about the man behind the threat to her life and the life of her family and friends. Now that her latest cover’s been blown, things have changed. She’s on a mission to put an end to the corruption and threats once and for all, but it will require help from past one night stand, Jamie Armstrong, and his Legionnaires team.
With vivid detail, a fast-paced plot, a strong hero and heroine, and excellent emotional and physical stakes, A Risk Worth Taking is a fantastic and expertly-written romantic suspense story that takes its readers on a memorable and gripping action-adventure. The chemistry between Samira and Jamie is electric and the danger surrounding them is high enough to keep readers on edge until the very end.
A Risk Worth Taking is the third book in author Brynn Kelly’s The Legionnaires series from HQN Books. It’s part of an ongoing series, but it can be read—and highly enjoyed—as a standalone book.
Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

OK, I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one. This one had me hooked from the first page. The action is nonstop.
I’m not going to rehash the blurb, you can read that above. But I will tell you one thing, this is not your typical military story, it isn’t the U.S. military. She writes about the French “Foreign” Legion as we call them here in the U.S. She gives a little bit of the mission of the Legionnaires throughout the book, but the Corporal she uses in her book is on leave the whole time, so it mainly talks about his skill set more than the Legionnaires as a whole. I like the world-wise hero she creates. She complements him with a reluctantly world-wise heroine. To say Samira would rather not be world-wise is an understatement, but she rises above the challenges she’s given with great strength and humanity.
This book takes you all over Europe on a roller-coaster of action adventure, from computer hacking, to train hopping, to camera dodging, to Secret Service impersonation, the ride doesn’t look like it’s going to end. You do get your HEA finally, but it still has a long way to go for both of them just as any love story does.
I’m giving this 5 of 5 stars because it is going to stay with me long after reading and it had all the elements I love; HEA and no cliff hanger!!! I will definitely have to catch up on this series with the first two.
Legionnaire Jamie Armstrong lives in the shadows. A medic haunted by his mistakes, he knows better than to hope for redemption. But his latest mission brings a threat he doesn’t see coming—an attraction as irresistible as it is dangerous. Hacker Samira Desta is a woman he swore to forget, but as a key witness to a deadly conspiracy, Samira is his to protect.
But the woman he rescues might be the one who saves him
After a year in hiding, Samira’s worst fears come true when her cover is blown and the unlikeliest of allies comes to her aid—the secretive Scot with whom she shared one unforgettable night. Hunted by lethal forces and losing the battle against their desire, Jamie and Samira make a desperate play to take the fight to their enemy—but those at greatest risk of ruin may be themselves…
Review:
Fast paced and don't blink or you will miss something book.
This is my first book in this series and by this Author. It was expertly written and had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. Like I said this is the first in the series I had read and while I was not totally lost, I think I would have enjoyed the story more by reading the other books first. I did like Samira and Jamie, both are extremely likeable, smart and capable. I especially liked the exciting ending of the story.
3.5Stars *I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book provided by the publisher.*
While this book is the third in a series, it reads well as a stand-alone, giving the reader enough background to accurately know the characters. The story is well-written enough to encourage me to read the first and second novels in the Legionnaires Series. Samira is a hacker of renown, who, with a team of former employees of a corrupt company whose head is now a US presidential candidate suspected of masterminding a terrorist attack on US soil, has uncovered information that can bring the candidate down. When Samira’s life is in danger while she is on the run from the candidate’s henchmen, Legionnaire and Scotsman Jamie Armstrong and several of his “friends” step in to rescue Samira and join forces to destroy Tristan Hyland’s run for the presidency. As members of Samira’s team disappear as the mission progresses, Samira and Jamie fight their physical attraction and memories of a night spent together after Samira’s fiancé Latif was killed by Hyland’s protectors. As time is running out on breaking the necessary codes to access the incriminating evidence, Samira, Jamie and their team race the clock - and Hyland’s goons - to achieve success. The book was enjoyable and even though the plot involved a lot of internet hacking and technology terminology, it was not so overwhelming for me, a relative techno-phobe. Recommended!!
A Risk Worth Taking is not my normal genre to read, but I'm glad I expanded my horizons with this romantic thriller. It is not just the story of a damsel in distress, who is rescued by her prince that she previously sent away after one night. That damsel, Samira, a technology genuis, is being chased by the future President's henchmen because she has information that could destroy him. Her prince, Jamie, a surgeon turned solider, has a secret past, slowly revealed to her as they travel through London and Scottland to avoid capture and concrete their information on Hyland, the future President. Will they survive long enough to clear Samira's name and provide the proof to the public of Hyland's wrong doings? What will happen when they are brought back together again and realize their true feelings?
I loved this book. I love the realistic and flawed characters. I was cheering for Samira and Jamie to come together again and survive and thrive together. I had no idea it was the third in a series until I started to write this review. I'm hoping there will be a fourth, so I can see their love story continue. Thick as the fog on the loch they end up taking cover by, the suspense kept me turning pages way past my bedtime. For me, this was a perfect blend of several of my favorite genres.
I liked this one. I read the book before it in the series (I didn't realize this is the 3rd book so somehow I missed book 1). Either way, it did help knowing the characters from the previous book and some of their backgrounds but it wasn't a necessity. Samira has been in hiding since the previous book ended. She is a hacker and is determined to take down the man they've been trying to thwart.
Her location is found and just when it looks like she is going to be captured, help arrives in the form of none other than Jamie Armstrong. I really like Jamie. He obviously has a past with issues but that doesn't mean he is a bad guy. He messes up but then tries to make up for it and most of all, he is determined to protect Samira. The two of them along with some of his teammates from Legionnaire will do what they have to, to bring the guy down and help their friends.
It was a 4/5 for me. I really enjoyed the whole book!
Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
What an intense and gripping novel! I do not usually read within the suspense genre but I was hooked from page one and was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book! This novel is jam packed with action including stealthy getaways, vigorous attacks, and steamy encounters. Just when I was caught up in a calm, somewhat peaceful, scene, I was quickly pulled into feeling the now familiar feeling of energy, drive, and turmoil. Definitely a fast-read, mostly because you don’t want to put it down. I especially loved the technology jargon and actions, as well as the tracking and gathering. I did not read the other books in the series and though there are some parts that I think may have touched upon things that happened in previous novels, this can be read as a stand-alone.
Thank you to Spencerhill Associates for this advance reader copy of A RISK WORTH TAKING by Brynn Kelly, Pub Date May 29, 2018!
A wild ride from start to finish, the whole premise was also quite scary. Could it actually happen? Samira was a strong character who didn’t realize her strengths, especially after she was thrown into a situation not of her making. I loved how smart she was. Jaime was a perfect complement to her, helping her get out of some situations, while her strength got him out of others. This is part of a series, which I didn’t realize initially, but it didn’t hinder my enjoyment in any way, it just made me want to go back and find out more about the other characters. I am also curious as to whether there will be a next book, because I can see a couple characters that deserve a more detailed story. This was a really enjoyable read and I flew through the pages. The characters were well-written and the story line was one I could immerse myself in. I recommend it for anyone who enjoys strong, smart characters and a fast-paced story. #ARiskWorthTaking
This book was a ready, set, GO! from the first page! It is a fast paced, action adventure packed, romantic suspense, with a twist at the end I wasn't expecting. I love the characters and the vulnerability they had but yet were able to pull their resources and skills together. I was on pins and needles with all the predicaments the characters found themselves in. This author has such a great gift in bringing the reader right into the story and running with the characters. I wanted to keep reading to know how they were going to get out of the situation they were in. I didn't know it was the third book in the series but I didn't have a problem following the action and story at all. I don't read too many books in this genre but this one was definitely worth reading for me! TY Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book!
