Bug Out! Texas #9

Bug Out! Texas Book 9: Patriots Unleashed

America is under attack! Bug Out! Texas is the story of Texas Patriots who fight the invaders.

In Bug Out! Texas Book 8, the battle expanded into New Mexico, as the Fort Stockton Group struggles to shut down enemy supply routes from Mexico to Colorado, using I-25 and I-40. The DPS Patrol Boaters try to re-take control of the Rio Grande to stem the rising tide of enemy fighters flooding into the Lone Star State.

Bug Out! Texas Book 9 – Patriots Unleashed continues the story of the battle for Texas and the Southwest.

The Fort Stockton team has destroyed the enemy supply route on I-25, but other roads are also a problem, most notably I-40. Enemy fighters see the danger and rush their forces there to shore up that important route. The Fort Stockton Group struggles with dangerous forces in New Mexico, a land of lawlessness and scavengers ready to take advantage.

Dallas is surrounded by enemy fighters, and Texas is short on troops. Will the city survive the coming onslaught?

The DPS Patrol Boaters were chased out of the Rio Grande, and are now attempting to set up a training facility on South Padre Island. Will they be successful? Can they muster the forces they need to stop enemy crossings in the Big Bend section of the Rio Grande?

General Hogan is still held captive by the enemy. Will he be rescued?

Bug Out! Texas Book 9 continues the mix of non-stop action and romance. The war takes an increasing toll on Texas Patriots. They are run ragged, pursued by the enemy, turning the tables to win a battle, then pursued again as the enemy becomes more and more desperate. Technology breakthroughs loom in the near future which would give the patriots the leverage they need, but will they come in time?

While the Fort Stockton group tend to their wounded after the deadly battle, Curt is in pursuit of the men who took Amanda. Jason and Stanton start to forge their new alliance and know that destroying more roads and bridges to disrupt the supply line are vital to help allies in other states, before they can turn an eye towards helping Texas. Don and Sydney look to recruit armed people in Arizona to swell their numbers but the enemy are wise to them, causing a change in plans that leave the new recruits exposed to great danger. The Fort Stockton women hit trouble in the tank convoy when unchipped enemies take them by surprise.

There is good news on all fronts for the Texas government with the success of the bridge mission, the new alliance and the welcome rescue of General Hogan from the enemy. Gallagher and Wallis are worried about the constant issues in the gulf and fear for their remaining DPS people. Nelson agrees to another road destroying mission for the Fort Stockton team but is anxious to get them into Dallas to help destroy the enemy. The advancing EU Navy are taking resources away from the fight to save the Texas coast.

With a few bad people rooted out, the DPS team are anxious to get going again under the new leadership of Richardson. They get working on the repair of several patrol boats in the dock but suddenly they under attack again. This attack leaves them with no phone to track the apps and they are stranded in town when the enemy come to finish them off. Canyon Lake is to be a training base for new DPS recruits but terrorists are swarming into the area and also hunting local women.

Brushy appears to have done a disappearing act from the books again which is a source of great frustration for me. He was one of the most interesting characters but continues to be a bit of an afterthought. I still hope we see him again in the series. A few stupid moves by the team leave vulnerable characters in danger. I'm not being plot critical when I say that because it is exactly what would happen in this kind of war scenario. Good people are going to make mistakes that endanger others so it isn't a problem-though I do shout at a couple of the characters for doing these things!

I'm still very nervous about my favourite characters because of the level of danger that they are all in. I'm very much enjoying the bunker conference calls which are way more interesting than you might expect and a clever way to keep you up to date on the Texas timeline compared to what is happening in the rest of America as the war continues. I like that even having the advantage of the apps can't stop our heroes from getting into a lot of dangerous situations, which keeps the element of surprise in the series for me.

Getting to the business end of the war now-who will survive and who will not...

Great series

I have enjoyed this series of books, lots of action, machine guns blazing, yet somehow the good guys come through!
