The author outlines the necessary steps for planning a great wedding, including travel arrangements and coordinating the ceremony, covering specific information about desireable wedding locales. Original.
this was one of the better books i've read on this terrible journey through the genre of how-to elopement. this book includes a selection of real destinations that real people might actually chose (quite unlike beyond vegas, for example) and a small selection of locations & advice for each of those places (rather than one obvious "sponsor" from each location). fortunately, there was a chapter about getting married in british colombia! unfortunately, i didn't learn anything new about getting married in british colombia, but they did mention that same-sex marriages are allowed, unlike every other book i've read. (those other books have honestly yet to reference homos even one single solitary time. granted, i'm not reading these het wedding books to find a celebration of diversity or acceptance, but damn, completely pretending gays don't exist through an entire genre? okay.) this book is really really focused on a pretty elaborate and spendy ceremony with guests and cake and shit, and the added challenge of having this someplace you don't live. while this doesn't have very much to do with me, there were some insights (such as using indigenous, seasonal flowers, for example) that i appreciated.
I wish I could give half stars as I think this book is 3.5 stars. The book has very good advice, and checklists, but I am not going to give the book 4 stars because I think this book is geared towards brides who want an extravagant wedding abroad. There are a few tips on how to save money but most of the wedding ideas seem to definitely be high price tag ideas. If there were more tips about planning a wedding on the cheap then I think I would give the book 4 or 5 stars. Also there was no section that discussed Barbados, though there was information on other Caribbean destinations.
A must if you're planning a destination wedding - or even thinking about having a destination wedding. There are check lists inside. She offers her advice from planning hundreds of such weddings. And best yet, she give profiles of countries along with marriage license requirements, local traditions and potential hotels. I wish I would have found this book sooner!
