Drift = Amy Murray

Drift is a stand alone debut book for Amy Murray. I want to admit up front that I’m not a huge reader in the time travel trope. But something called to me with this book. Was it the cover, the synopsis, I don’t know. But I decided to go for it. This book blew me away. I was riveted. I literally could not put it down. Maybe in the next few paragraphs I can convince you to give it a try as well.

Drift (noun) - a continuous slow movement from one place to another.

“A single lifetime would never be enough.”

Abigail Swift has never known a normal mother/daughter relationship with her mother. Her mom has suffered her entire life with schizophrenia. The older Abigail got, the worse her mother’s condition became. It’s been three months now since her death and it is Abby’s twenty-second birthday. Her best friend forces her to go out for the evening to a bar and that’s where she first saw him. She couldn’t take her eyes off him. But it was when they touched that everything went wrong.

“It was happening - everything I’d ever feared. I was becoming my worst nightmare. I was becoming my mother.”

Abby starts seeing things, a woman that looks just like herself with a man that looks just like James, the man she met in the bar. But it was in another time. Abby soon learns that she isn’t crazy at all but has the ability to travel back and forth from this life to a past life. It’s called to drift. She can’t do it at will. She has no control over it at all. Why is this happening now?!

1920's Couple Kissing

The connection she shares with James is instant and strong. James can’t drift but is an artist and he’s been drawing Abby’s portrait for the last year. Her face just comes to him, but now here she is in person. But their connection isn’t just in this life. They were connected before as well, in their previous life.

“It was just a kiss, but somehow it was more than that. It was like coming home.”

Drift - Amy Murray

There is so much more to this. There are many other players in this story, some good and some not. There is a priceless diamond, murder, heartbreak, and love.

“We were two halves of the same whole, bound together for eternity, and this time, I wasn’t letting go.”

Smoking gun

Can Abby and James find a way to avoid history repeating itself? Can they find a way to stay together? Can they right the wrongs that happened a century ago?

Drift - Amy Murray

This is a heart stopping, heart breaking, wonderful book. I instantly fell in love with both Abby and James, as well as Colin, oh my dear Colin, who is also a very important part of this story. I think he's the one most of all that is still swimming around my my head and heart. I finished the book late but when I turned out the light, sleep wouldn’t come to me. I laid there with my eyes wide open thinking about these characters. So, Amy Murray, I hope that by itself tells you the impact this had on me. The characters are still, the next day, swimming around in my head and heart. I don’t think they’ll be going anywhere anytime soon. Thank you for this wonderful book. I so look forward to seeing you are doing next.

“I’m yours, for all of time.”

This was not as interesting as I thought it would be, while the blurb was intriguing , the execution didn't quite work out well. The "drift" was quite hard to follow, one minute you are in the present and without any warning, in the drift. Having to figure out exactly when/where we are was a hassle. I also did not understand why the FBI had a whole department specially geared for the drifts, nothing special happens except the MC relieving her past, just hers. Mack made a vague comment about being able to change the past but they had no empirical evidence to lend credence to that theory, it just seemed like the FBI were wasting resources for some bullshit department.

Another thing, was I supposed to like Mack? I found his character more appealing than James. I never took to James. They have an intense attraction when they met but that was it, I never actually felt they loved each other, I tie that intensity to the trauma they both suffered together. I felt Mack knew her more, considering James wanted her to differentiate between the present and the drift, I don't know why they ended up together.

Anyway, I'm in the minority here so I'm certain most would enjoy the story.

What a Ride!
Drift by Amy Murray is a full-lenght standalone romance novel with PNR elements.
Meet Abigail- Abby-. She´s a senior at college and home to visit her parents. Her mother is sick. She´s shizophrenia. Then mysterious things start to happen and Abby fears she inherited her mothers sickness. She has hallucinations and visions. And there is a new neighbor in the mix.
Drift is a fast paces emotional read. This book left me breathless and speechless, literally. Prepare, you´ll need tissues!
I voluntarily received an advanced reader copy.
Drift is a well written mindfudge of epic proportions, and I loved it. I love the story, I love the characters and I love the writing. I give 4,5 stars and thank you Amy Murray!

It’s been a while since read a paranormal romance of any kind, so if course I couldn’t pass this one up and from the start this had my attention.

Abigail’s mother has had shizophrenia for as long as she can remember, so after her mothers death her fears come to the surface of if she will turn out to be like her mother. Especially when memories start to come of a man she doesn’t know, places she’s never been and she remembers things she shouldn’t. That is, till she meets him one night and all the memories draw her to him even more. There was a whole lot more to all of this though and there is another person that comes into play and just complicates Abigail’s life even more. There are people after her, after James, after some mystery item and she is trying to piece all of it together.

The main character Abigail was a fairly strong young woman, watching her mother go through all those years suffering, and then being away at college too, it had to hard for her. But somehow she stayed strong, not only for her mother but for her father too. Now, James is the mysterious man, and it wasn’t hard to tell that he cared for her and he trying to figure out why he is so drawn to her as well. There is that other person that I mentioned that comes into play, and he’s a big part of it all and this is where is the whole dreaded love triangle things that takes place. I’m not going to give anything about that, you will just have to read that all for yourself. The cast of characters were actually pretty enjoyable and I really did like them.

The story itself was great, but my issue was with the “drifting”, which is where Abigail would go back and relive a memory, is kinda confusing, she had the memory and then she was back in the present and I wasn’t really sure what time frame the memory took place. I guess it just added to the mystery aspect a little more. So I was still able to enjoy the mystery of who was after Abigail and James and I was happy with how everything ended. I think fans of this genre will enjoy this one as much as I did.

Please note: I received a copy of DRIFT from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the publisher and author.

Holy moly! Can I please give DRIFT 20 stars? What an emotional thrill-ride!

First, I love the title because it truly reflects part of the story. DRIFT isn’t just a romance; there are paranormal elements that play an integral part of the story, but without hitting the reader over the head with them. The premise is out-of-this-world unique, and it hooked me from the get-go.

Typical college student, Abby fears she will end up like her mother who killed herself after suffering from schizophrenia. When Abby starts to experience similar symptoms like hallucinations and visions, she fears the worst, but then realizes, be careful what you wish for because as it turns out, her mother could drift through time and apparently, so can Abby. What happens next involves Abby in a love triangle with Colin and James as Ms. Murray starts to unveil bits and pieces of their woven past with the way Abby drifts and threads such details into the present.

This book left me breathless. It's been two days and I’m still thinking about the characters. Maybe it's happened to you, maybe not. But sometimes you encounter a person, and the world just stops and divides into before and after meeting this person. You realize in that moment, that this person could very well become your everything. Your soul connects with theirs and it's a perfect match. This isn't just a love story or a story about time travel. It's a journey. It's a journey full of beauty, suffering, and pain; but more than that, it's a story about hope. But that's life. And that's how I got hooked by this story. Highly recommend.

I was provided this book by the author for an honest review! My honest review is that I LOVED this book. It was fast past, the story line was intriguing and the underlining romance was beautiful.

This story centers around Abby, who watched her mom sickness take over her life, it was heartbreaking and affected her greatly. When Abby herself meets a boy James, she has this instant connection with. Her world imminently changes. She starts to question her own insanity.

I thought this book was written wonderfully, it kept me hooked from page one. This story was had me holding my breathe multiple times. Every emotion was used while reading this. I think every reader will love this story. This is a #MustRead for me!

PS LOVE LOVE James and Abby and I know you will too.

It's a very unique and intriguing story. it pulled me in from the very start. I loved the characters, and it's well-written. Abigail is worried that she will turn out to be like her mom. She lives in fear of loosing her mind. And now it's happening. She is seeing things, imagining things, and she has no idea how to deal with it. One thing is for sure though, for some reason James is in the middle of it all. She doesn't even know him at first....
James has this image of a girl in his mind, and then he finds out that she is real. He simply can't stay away from her. No matter how strangely she acts, and how much she is trying to avoid him. Still he wants to see her, to be with her. May be together they can figure out the truth...
I've to say that it's not an average book, but it's also not something which everyone will like. The story is quite interesting, and there is a sense of mystery, as well as, looming doom. But it's also a little annoying at times. So, I think if you're looking for something different, something out of the ordinary then sure this is for you. But if you like books that follow set rules/structure then you might not like it. For me the topic alone was enough to love this book. I love how it portrays human mind, the things it can do, and make us believe, or may be it's all real. That's the question; Are you crazy or something else entirely?

The blurb intrigued me from the start and I thought I was going to be pulled into a New Adult book that crosses several genres into suspense the paranormal. And ‘Drift’ does in fact, defy categorisation in a sense and its uniqueness stood out from the start when there is the eerie sense that there’s nothing right with the world as Abigail knows it when her supernatural abilities to ‘drift’ into her past lives start to show up.

But the more I read on, the harder a time I had getting into this, not least because the frequent jumps between the present and an unknown time when Abigail and James were fleeing something or someone weren’t exactly demarcated properly, either by paragraphs or by italics. Admittedly this might be a formatting issue, but it left me confused nonetheless.

For the longest time, I couldn’t really figure out what was going on and my own state of disorientation only grew when things happened without sufficient explanation of the paranormal happenings for both James and Abigail. The characters themselves were confused and flailing to understand what was going on with themselves, save for the ominous confirmation that it will end in tragedy and regret. What isn’t clear is the time periods in which Abigail’s and James's ‘past lives’ take place and while some partial revelations come through another character, it’s clear that the pieces wouldn’t fall into place right up until the end.

I couldn’t finish ‘Drift’ in the end, just as it was shaping out to be a complicated love triangle with past lives affecting the present. I’d struggled through it for several days, unable to get fully into it, despite the initial excitement that I had about this…and finally decided that this just wasn’t a book for me.

This book had such potential. I loved the premise of time traveling to past versions of yourself to somehow right a wrong. But execution is key to a story like that and this one fell just a little short. I'm not sure if it's was the presentation of current versus past life in this ARC copy or the writing style, but it was sometimes confusing when we would jump to a past life. Add to that little explanation about drifting and why the FBI has a whole department on the subject and it left me sometimes wondering what was going on.

Wow, just wow. I read this in one entire sitting. I just couldn't put it down. Who needs sleep, right. From moment one, page one I was hooked. There was no way I think I could have waited to find out everything. But be prepared you will get a case of the feels. Its like Outlander meets Dr Who. There is mystery, murder, mayhem, with a dish of romance, just WTF moments. The past is not 18th century Scotland, but 1920’s Texas. The author is new to me, and I must say I will be following her work from now on. The story flowed very well, with the time alterations smoothly and was seamlessly done. You know how sometimes with time travel book where there is a rift or the shift doesn't read well, this book did not have any of those flaws. I knew when I was in the past, I knew when I was in the present. The characters were very developed. The plot well thought out. A joy to read.

So many twists and turns. A few thing will lead you to tears, some will raise your eyebrows to your hairline, others will have you thinking uh huh right. The main characters were James, a painter with a few extra talents, Abby, the gal with the mostest (I think so anyways), and Collin (aka Mack or as I call him McDreamy). I think while James was perfect for Abby, I could not get over the connection I felt with Mack. His story, past and present, really gets you in the heart strings. Is he perfect, no he is not. Is anyone, who knows. I really was rooting for him in the end, but was satisfied with the major characters outcomes, as I felt it did give some sort of closure, or redemption if for a better word.

A solid five star read. I recommend you get comfy because you will not be going anywhere once you start this awesome book. I hope the story continues in future books, as this concept is a brilliant one.

**This ARC was provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

Drift is a paranormal romance with a very unique storyline. The paranormal elements are not what you’d normally see in this genre of books.

The main characters in Drift are Abigail (Abby) and James. Abby’s mother has recently completed suicide, due to being unable to live with her schizophrenia anymore. Abby is your every day college student, except she carries around this burden of being very concerned that she is going to end up like her mother, especially when she starts experiencing hallucinations and memories of a man she has never met. Then, she meets this “mystery man,” James, one night, and realizes that her hallucinations and memories are more than just that. She actually can “drift,” which I won’t go into too much detail as to give away the plot line ☺.

James, just like Abby, can “drift,” but in a different way. He is able to draw pictures of his memories, and they all seem to revolve around Abby. So, needless to say, when he meets her, he is just as surprised as Abby is. There is another main character in the story, Mack. However, I will also not share too much of his involvement, except to say that he works for the FBI, is drawn to Abby, and is looking for a diamond necklace. The story comes to an end with an epic showdown occurring, and not everyone making it.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I struggled a little bit with the “drifts,” just because Abby would go in and out of them, and it was oftentimes hard to determine if Abby was in the present or in a drift. I must admit, though, this wasn’t a book that kept me hooked and unable to come up for air until I was finished. I would read a little bit, and then have to put it down for a while. I’m not saying that I didn’t like the book, because I DID, I just don’t think this type of story is what I needed at the time. I also am super bummed that I did not get all of my questions answered by the end of the story.

Please don’t let me review or personal opinions deter you from reading Drift. Amy Murray is a wonderful author, and I would hope that you would read it to form your own opinion!

*3.5*

The first aspect that made me desperately want to read Amy Murray's Drift? The cover! There's just something about it that's so utterly eye-catching. I think it's the blue on white aspect. Then I read the summery and I was officially sold.

The verdict? I found Drift to be an enjoyable read! I loved the combination of time travel, mystery, and romance.

Drift introduces Abigail, a young college student hoping and praying that she doesn't end up like her dearly departed mother.

From the first page, I found Abigail's voice to be incredibly readable. It was easy to get lost in her story and more importantly, connect and relate to her. My heart ached over Abigail's tumultuous relationship with her mother. I thought Amy Murray did a great job of handling the mental illness aspect of it as well as making it easy to understand that while Abigail did love her mother she also slightly disappointed that she could never have the regular, normal mother daughter relationship. It's something that I feel that everyone would feel to a point in Abigail's shoes, because no matter how hard you understand why everything is the way it is you still have that small craving for normalcy. What I loved most about Abigail, however, was her unwavering determination to question everything that was going on around her. Abigail isn't the type of character who gets involved in a situation she knows nothing about; instead, she tries to look at all sides of it and get to the bottom of who the good guy and/or choice actually is. She's a strong cookie, and while at times she did make a seemingly "bad" choice, she always managed to learn her lesson and rebuild.

The plot in Drift was interesting. I found the premise to be unique, as Amy managed to take the typical time travel/reincarnation story line and make it her own through the concept of "drifting." In Drift, drifting is the ability to drift back to a pass life time. Sometimes it only takes you back to one small segment of the past, but sometimes it builds upon a story...the only problem? It's easy to get stuck in this type of trance. It's probably a given to say that this made the story not only fast paced but intriguing, as it was a constant guessing game to try to figure out what was exactly happening in Abigail's drift and what it in turn revealed about current times.

Abigail's drifting also brought with it a love interest in James, a newcomer in Abigail's life and a reoccurring person in her drifts. James was a character I had a hard time with. One part of me did like him. He was good to Abigail, but I just couldn't connect to him nor could I really say I came to love him. He was just kind of there, and unfortunately, because of that, the romance was brought down a few notches in my eyes. I think it's also what made me "like" Drift rather than "love" it.

Even with that slight problem, I still recommend Drift to lovers of romance with a time traveling twist. While I didn't personally connect with the romance here many others have so don't let me detour you in that regard!

This book was absolutely phenomenal! The storyline blew me away and I was seriously hooked throughout the entire book!

It was a little confusing at some parts when she is seeing memories from the past, it kind of blends into the present, but otherwise there was nothing I didn't love about this book! The characters were great, it had suspense, mystery, a little sci-fi, some romance, it had everything you could want!

Seriously, I don't want to give anything away. Just know this book had me hooked from the first few chapters and I couldn't put it down!

The premise of this one was very interesting but it fell flat in a few places for me. For years Abby thought her mom was schizophrenic and when she starts having visions she thinks she may have her mothers condition too. But she soon finds out she's not crazy and neither was her mom. They can drift which basically means they go into a haze where they relive a past life. Through this drift Abby tries to solve a decades long mystery and learns that she was in danger in her past life and may be in danger again.

I really wanted to love this book but I had a few issues. When Abby first drifted, I didn't know what the heck was going on. I must have re-read that page like 10 times because I was confused. I liked the dynamic with Abby, James and Mack. I liked the little mystery surrounding the connections between the three of them. I kind of disliked the main mystery of the drift and what a certain person was looking for was kind of like... ohh thats it? I can't see doing all that stuff just for a maybe and they never found the thing in the end so it seemed kind of pointless.

Overall the writing was good and while it wasn't a great book for me and I can see other people liking it. I will probably read another book from this author or even if she decided to continue this story in another book I can see myself reading it.

Abigail Swift never suspected her mom was anything but insane until the moment she herself recalled a memory about her past; a moment in time she'd never experienced before, and yet, it was definitely one of her past memories. Even worse, the memory is one that could get her killed, especially if she can't find what someone from her past believes she took and now wants back. However, she's not alone in her pursuit. At least she has James, the man she's falling for by her side. Will they be able to find what they need before it's too late, or will they lose their chance at happy ever after?

What a wild ride Ms. Murray takes readers on in this book, not only because of the way it bounces between the present and the memories of the past, but because of all Abigail goes through with the danger coming her way; the secondary characters and whether Abigail can handle their betrayals once she discovers them; and the dialogue that had me hoping Abigail would take a chance on the mysterious James, even though her drifts are dangerous and he seems to make her have more than normal when she's around him. The way this story start had me sympathizing with the heroine, as she's had it rough over the years with her mother's condition and whether she'll end up the same way. However, it was from the moment Abigail meets James that this story became very exciting, as he unleashes something within her she doesn't understand, and yet, can't wait to explore once she gets to know him a bit better. Will she be able to handle what happens to her and everything she ends up discovering?

The dialogue was well-written, beguiling and I loved the rollercoaster of emotions Ms. Murray took me on as a reader. Such as the love between James and Abigail; the anger the heroine feels towards those that betray her; and the moment where I couldn't stop the tears from spilling because of what happens to one of the characters that I came to be charmed by. Moreover, the heroine is resilient, courageous and I liked how determined she was to not give up on James, even though being around him may be dangerous for her health. I also liked how she handled herself under pressure when it came to dealing with the bad guy and that she would do anything to protect those she loves, even if it means sacrificing herself.

Overall, Ms. Murray has delivered a highly entertaining and remarkable read in this book where the secondary characters had me loving them as much as the main ones; the tough obstacles Abigail faced had me cheering for her to be able to overcome them; and the ending had me on the edge-of-my-seat and reading quickly, determined to discover how things would turn out for the heroine and James. Would Abigail survive? Would James be able to help her? I would recommend Drift by Amy Murray, if you enjoy time travel romance, New Adult romance or books by authors Beth Ann Miller, Lindsey Frydman, Rebecca Yarros and MK Schiller.

I’m not crazy. My mother may have died with everyone believing she was insane, but I refuse to accept that as my fate. Even if I am recalling memories about a life I never lived. A life that includes the mysterious James—a guy I’ve only just met, but feel as if I’ve known all my life. The memories are coming hard and fast, and I’m falling down a rabbit hole with consequences that far exceed anything I could have ever imagined. And now, someone is trying to kill me.

Someone from my past who knows about my visions and is looking for something he believes I took from him. All I have to do is figure out how these memories relate to the present and maybe I’ll survive to live another day.

Maybe…

Abby refuses to believe that she is crazy, refuses to accept that she is having the same memories and visions that her mum had who died with everyone believing she was crazy. But Abby won’t accept that and now she is having memories of a life she has never lived. Throw in the mysterious James who she has just met but feels like she has known forever and the fact that someone is after her, wanting to kill her, Abby may not be crazy but her life certainly is and things are getting dangerous. Can she survive long enough to figure everything out and have a second chance at everlasting love?

“It was happening – everything I’d ever feared. I was becoming my worst nightmare. I was becoming my mother.”

This was a book unlike anything I have ever read before and part of me loved it and part of me struggled with it. The concept was intriguing and the love story was beautiful but it did get confusing at times with the constant switching back and forth. But I can’t deny that the book captivated me and was a refreshing change from the other romances out there.

“My eyes rolled closed as some kind of firework ripped through my body and exploded in my gut. Everything wrong with us, every reason why I shouldn’t be with him, vanished because in that moment, everything was right.”

Abby was instantly likeable for me. She was going through so much but still remained strong and determined to find out what was going on around her. James was just as likeable. His feelings for Abby just reached out of the pages and touched my heart. And the connection between the two was so beautiful and intense- a love so strong that it really did travel across time.

“We were two halves of the same whole, bound together for eternity, and this time, I wasn’t letting go.”

This wasn’t just a romance story, it wasn’t even just a romance story with elements of time travel. It had so many elements to it such as mystery, murder, heartbreak…it definitely had a lot going on to keep you entertained. There are other characters that play important roles and keep you guessing as to what is going on and who is after Abbey. As mentioned before, it does get a bit confusing at times and it was hard to follow at points but the characters and the plot itself was very intriguing and kept me reading to the explosive end!

I had a great time reading this book. I must confess isn't my usual kind of books but I did enjoy it a lot. Even though I love paranormal books, time traveling or past lives aren't my thing. But I decided to give it a try and I'm happy I did it.

This story combine new adult romance with a little bit of PNR. Abby, the lead character, saw her mother drift away from her thanks to the schizophrenia and that fact marked her life. One day she started to relive things, memories, that she didn't had before. She started to remember things that weren't part of her present life, and all those things happened after she met a handsome but mysterious man called James.

With the backstory she had, it isn't hard to understand when she freaked out and started to think that maybe she had schizophrenia too. But reality wasn't easy to explain. She wasn't sick, she had a power. And that power allowed her to travel in time and see moments of her pasts lives. Somehow, Abby isn't the one with an ability, because James had the power to relive some scenes of his past as well, only that he decided to immortalize those scenes as paints. And, precisely, those paintings unchained a series of dangerous events.

I loved the vivid descriptions, both in the past and in the present, from Abby's perspective. It was like being on her shoes. The author has a talent to take the reader in a trip, make you be part of the story and deliver raw and intense emotions, to make you smile, and cry, and scream... I was bitting my nails most of the time. I was desperate to know every single detail about the characters. I read this book in a few hours. I couldn't put it down. And when a story has this power to drag you in and never let you go, then you know is a good story.

If you ask me for words to describe this book, I should say it was thrilling, intense, overwhelming, suspenseful, passionate and utterly romantic. Amy Murray was a new author for me, and certainly this won't be the last time I will be reading her.

This was a fabulous debut by Amy Murray. I'm looking forward to what she has in store for us down the road. I'm going to do my best to review this story without revealing too much, since I feel like the paranormal elements and relationships among the characters should be experienced rather than laid out for you like I've seen in some of the other reviews.

What I loved most about this book was its uniqueness. While I enjoy time travel books, I don't gravitate towards them and have only read a few. I opted to read Drift because it gave me an opportunity to read something a little different from the usual romance novels that I've been reviewing as of late. And I was thrilled with the intricately woven journey on which the author took me.

Having experience with people affected by mental illness, I was immediately drawn to Abigail. Her thoughts and fears were all too real, especially how she struggled to understand and accept what was happening to her. Becoming mentally ill was always a terrifying possibility for Abigail and coming to terms with her new ability was difficult. Thankfully, she had James to help her recognize that she wasn't going crazy but rather had a unique ability to see her past life even if they didn't understand why. He provided a safe haven for her and kept her grounded in the present. James was her soulmate, and they gave comfort to each other through everything that was happening in the past and present. Abigail also had Mack, her secretive and hunky neighbor, to help her navigate through what she was experiencing and keep her safe. I adored all of the characters and the roles they played in each others lives both past and present. This was absolutely a book I couldn't put down until the end. I needed to know how these individuals were connected and where their journey would lead.

DRIFT is Amy Murray's debut book (I think?) and is a new adult/paranormal (time travel)/second chance/love triangle (kind of) story. I've actually NEVER read a book about time travel before so it was completely out of my comfort zone but the intriguing blurb and beautiful cover caught my attention. Ok, so where should I start? First, hat's off to Ms. Murray for a well crafted story with a unique plot! It was fast paced and filled with all kinds of twisty turns and ups and downs. I loved the suspense and the mystery of trying to figure what was going on with Abby, James and Mack. From the very start, I felt the intense connection between James and Abby. They were like two magnets drawn together all the time. I wasn't expecting a love triangle between the three main characters and some might say it really wasn't but I felt it qualified as one. Just a side note in case love triangles aren't your thing, there's nothing tawdry or raunchy about their relationships, this is a "clean" romance...and that's all I'm going to say about that because I don't want to give any spoilers away! Now, the reasons why this one gets 3.5 stars? Well, like I said, the connection between Abby and James is so obviously strong but other than a few kisses and some seemingly innocent groping, their relationship could have been classified as REALLY good friends. I wanted to see a more ROMANTIC bond! Also, I was sometimes confused about when Abby was actually "drifting" since there was not too many defining differences in the writing (this might be more of an editing problem?) and I wished the Drift was explained in more depth and detail. Overall, this was a cool, different take on the time travel, paranormal trope and I'll be on the lookout for more from this author! Told from Abby's POV with a kind of sad but mostly happy ending. I received, read and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I had high hopes for Drift, but unfortunately it didn't quite live up to them. It was confusing and incoherent at times, but I see potential in Amy Murray's writing.

Abby is a college senior whose mother has been lost in her schizophrenia for years now. Abby fears that someday she'll end up lost to madness just like you. When she starts experiencing hallucinations and visions, and they seem to be all connected to a new guy she met at a party, she's even more scared. So she pushes James away until she can't resist him any longer. But, there's not just James in the mix, there's a new neighbor, Mack, who's involved, too. So many interesting, mysterious guys...

While I liked Abby, James and Mack, and their connection was a very interesting, emotional thing, I just could not get into the drifting aspect, not the way it was written at least. I think the concept is awesome, but its execution was muddy and confusing. There wasn't a clear delineation most of the time when Abby started to go into a drift, and it threw me off every single time. I wish it had been detailed in a much clearer fashion. If it had been, I would have enjoyed Drift a lot more. As it stands, though, Drift just didn't grab me the way I was hoping it would. Still, there are glimmers of good things in Drift, and I'll probably end up reading more from Amy Murray because of those good things.

I received an ARC through NetGalley for an honest review.

Fantastic book! If you are looking for something different to read, then I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this one! Abby has recently lost her mother to schizophrenia, and she always lives with the fear of developing it herself. That fear increases when she meets James. When she touches him, she has visions from a life she has never lived, so she thinks she is finally developing what her mother had. But, is there something more, something her rational mind can’t understand? To make matters worse, someone else knows about her visions and her life is in danger. She just has to make sense of what she is seeing and how James fits into the picture.

I love it when the title of the book connects with the story, and Drift is the perfect title. You will see what I mean when you read the book! I love a book about star-crossed lovers and soulmates, and this one is definitely both. I could literally feel the pull between James and Abby. There are other characters who help make the story complete…some you will like and some you won’t. But, I guarantee once you start reading this one, it will be very hard to put down. Great romance that had it all…mystery, suspense, and action!!!! Great job, Amy Murray!

3.5 stars.

I’m kinda torn about this one.

We meet Abigail and James. She’s lived with a mother dealing with mental issues, and fears that she’ll get it too. When her mother dies, similar symptoms start appearing and she fears the worst. Around that time she also meets James, a guy she’s never seen before, yet she feels as if she’s known him for years.

Anyway, the story goes on trying to understand what is happening with Abigail, and even James. I liked the idea they discovered, however I just couldn’t totally buy it. I felt it was missing something, I’m not sure what.

Also, I wasn’t a fan of James and Abigail’s relationship, I didn’t like her back and forth with him. I understand that it was fast in a way, but also not. Lol. I just wasn’t a fan of Abigail going all over the place.

She also didn’t even trust her friend, which I totally get, but she kept putting herself in dangerous situations and barely said a peep to her best friend about it? I don’t know.

Like I said, I liked the idea of the book (it did keep me engage), I just wasn’t much of a fan of Abigail.

I'm usually not a big fan of paranormal... although I really wouldn't call this paranormal, its more of a time travel romance as a whole.

Abby grew up thinking that her mother was sick, suffering from Schizophrenia. As she grew older, her fear of inheriting her mother's illness because very real, especially after she started seeing these vision of a life in another era.

Meeing James, she has an instant connection with him as he apears in her visions... Abby soon finds out that these visions are called a drift, inwhich she can go back from the present to a life she lived in the past.

I don't want to give much away of the storyline, but I will tell you that I enjoyed the story a lot. The only issue I had, which could have just been the formatting of the ARC was the transitions between Abby's present to her drift back to 1920s Houston. Full of suspense and romance, I found myself not able to put the book down once I started reading, needing to know what comes next.

If you like stories with solid characters and a story full of suspense, Drift may be right up your alley.

I've been trying to make a list of all the amazing authors that I had the pleasure of reading their works but it looks like its a never ending one because every week I find a new author and bamm...
Amy Murray is another one that had the ability to hook me up and now I want more.
Her writing is simple, intense and different from what I've been reading.
This genre is my first time reading and if I didn't liked the blurb I wouldn't have tried it. I'm seeing honest tell that time travel is not my thing but this blurb hooked me up and I needed to read it.
This book tells the stories of Abby and James. They have only met once at a bar but she is having this weird dreams about them together. But that can't be true because she hadn't met him before.
And now...
This story is different and beautiful. I'm really happy that I took this chance to dig into this world of previous lifes and time traveling.
The story progressed smoothly and amazed me by the sec. What a premier this was.

I don't normally read paranormal romance. It just typically isn't my style but I decided to give Drift a try. I liked that the paranormal elements tended to take a background in this story. They weren't over the top and I really enjoyed the premise of being able to time travel to past versions of oneself to right a wrong.

Abby always thought her mom was crazy until the day she realized that she could look into her past at a memory that was definitely hers but not at the same time. She understands that her mom must have been able to do this as well. James comes into her life right before she discovers these things and she feels as if she's known him for years. He starts appearing in her visions and they soon discover maybe they are soulmates.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I didn't care for the transition between present and past all that much but it didn't take anything away from the book.

Sometimes you read a book and that's it, no emotions, no questions, you just don't think about it again.

Other times you read a book and it's the only thing you can think of when you aren't ready and for a week after you finished it. Drift is the latter. I did not want to stop reading but had to for sleep....and work...and kids... Drift hooked me from the beginning. With twist after twist I had to know more and have a few questions but I'm sure a re-read will answer them ;)

Drift is the first book by Amy Murray and a standalone! No cliffhanger that we have to wait a year to find out what happens. And that cover, take a minute to appreciate it. I have to admit, I totally judge a book by it's cover and Drift is as gorgeous as it is good!

This is my first experience with a book dealing with time travel. And I am now intrigued by the idea and looking for more books. Thankfully Ms. Murray provided a list for us to dive into on her Twitter page.

**I received a copy of DRIFT from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. **
I waited a couple of days to let this digest before writing this review. There were things I hated and things I liked very much about this book.
It should be noted there is a suicide in the opening pages in case that is an issue for any potential readers.
This book reminded me a little bit of the Fallen Series by Kate Lauren - a little bit.
I didn't completely understand the FBIs involvement in the storyline...why are they so concerned about drifters?
All in all, though, I did enjoy the storyline. There were just some loose ends that make I thought about a little too much. Otherwise though...a solid story.

I was drawn to this book by its blurb..I have to say I was so intrigued..first sentence and bam..needed the book! I am so very happy I decided to read it because it's such an amazing story, certainly captivating and beautiful.
Abby grew up with a schizophrenic mom and now, after her mom's death, and with a chance encounter, James, she starts to experience visions of a past with James.
That's not the only problem tho..someone is after her..what is going on? mystery and murder added to the drifting and the beautiful and strong connection between Abby and James..a past and a present that seem to collide..is there a way out? a way for them to get their HEA?
I was hooked til the very last page! Do yourself a favour and read this story!

This is a new to me author whose story caught my eye on different. With that being said I dived right in with a character I am introduced to named Abigail. This will take you along just as the title says but in here it is also something different too. Tragedy will open a door to answers but also questions. In will also be James who will have the key to a beginning of what will have you entranced with what will start happening. I do not normally read this type of fantasy as I will call it much anymore but this one is alluring. It will have many elements that ensnare along with one of my favorites- mysteries. By the time you do reach the end it might have no more words but you will still be caught in it.
