The Beacon Hill Sorcerer #3

The Necromancer's Reckoning

Rate this book
Every action has consequences.
For a decade, Angel Salvatore has been the most powerful sorcerer and only necromancer in all the Northeast. Never one to ask permission nor apologies, he has acted with near impunity for years.
Until now.
The High Council of Sorcery has come to Boston, and Angel is their target. Charged with numerous violations of practitioner laws, his freedom and family are placed in jeopardy.
If found guilty, Angel's apprentice Daniel will be imprisoned to serve out the remaining years of his apprenticeship. Isaac, his brother, is too vulnerable to be left unguarded, and Angel fears for his sanity and health. And Simeon, Elder vampire and Angel's mate, refuses to see Angel convicted under the laws of the Council and his actions to keep Angel free threaten to start a war that could destroy their world. And Angel faces the severest of punishments—the castration of his gifts.
The Council has never cared for the people of Boston, and Angel doubts their motives. They have come for some insidious reason, and it has nothing to do with upholding the law and everything to do with Angel.
Dealing with an impending trial, a wayward ghost, and a graverobbing ring of thieves leaves Angel on the edge. He thinks he may have a handle on things until violence erupts across the city, and a stranger comes to town...a stranger with his own dark powers of necromancy.

LOVE SPRINGS ETERNAL releases August 31st 2021.

I will be moving all my titles over the course of 2022 to my new author name, Sheena Jolie.

If you have questions for me, and want an answer sooner rather than later, find me on Facebook or Twitter. Social media links on my website, along with a FAQs page for the most common questions I get asked.

Current writing cluster titles are available on my Works in Progress page at my website. www.sjhimes.com

I also write as Revella Hawthorne. I write mainly gay romance and erotica, but I am branching out into polyamorous groupings and LGBT+ characters.

Saving Silas is my only contemporary. Everything else is paranormal, urban fantasy, or scifi/alternate universe.

I'm a nomad--I move a lot. My health is sporadic, so when I'm feeling well enough is when I'm writing. Which is good, as otherwise, I think my suffering translates to boring stories. ;)

I've learned the hard way that I can't do release dates until a book is 100% DONE. No projected dates anymore. For up to date and accurate information, find me on Facebook and Twitter. I RARELY come to GR. It'll be months before I'm back again.

Any books I have reviewed are my own opinions and done so without malice. I won't review a book anymore if I can't give it 3 stars or higher. Most of my reviews are based upon how a book makes me FEEL. Entirely subjective and personal. Exceptions are in cases of plagiarism and intellectual property theft or a massively horrible formatting job or erroneous content (ie the title and blurb don't match the interior.)

5 Stars

I’m dishing out 5 full stars for this magical, heart-stopping, romantic AF, fantasy thrill-ride, for holding me enraptured from word one.

Three books in and The Beacon Hills Sorcerer series has now become my official favourite M/M urban fantasy series. Combining smooth writing, great storytelling, and supernatural characters to die for, these books really have left an indelible mark on me.

Here, necromancer Angel and his vampire mate Simeon are back for more high stakes adventure as they simultaneously hunt for a gang of magical grave-robbers while also duking it out against nefarious members of the High Council of Sorcery, who seem to have it in for Angel and those he holds most dear.

This plot was very action-packed and multi-layered (in terms the number of problems and enemies Angel and co. faced throughout). It was executed exceedingly well, too, because the story flowed effortlessly, and although there was a lot happening, with a lot of drama unfolding and plenty of magical histories being discussed, it was never confusing, and it was certainly never boring.

I’ve also come to the conclusion that Simeon might just be my favourite vampire hero of all-time. This seems like a huge statement for anyone who has read extensively in this kind of genre, but the guy really is remarkable. His love for Angel knows no bounds – every time he starts in on Angel with his sexy and swoon-worthy Gaelic endearments, I’m positively done for.

Simeon and Angel are an epic book couple, to be sure, but I’m also as eager as a raging bull ready to be let out of the chute to get my hands on future sequels that feature soon-to-be couples, Isaac and Baptiste (Angel’s bro and the vampire master of Boston), and Daniel and Rory (Angel’s apprentice and the recently resurrected fae). These stories couldn’t be higher on my must-reads list if they tried!!!

Obviously, I loved the hell out of this. This story clearly filled my definition of pure entertainment and as such I can’t recommend this series highly enough to any and all fans of M/M urban fantasy.

Second re-read: 05.08.2021
If I remember correctly the author once wrote - though the author has it now removed from her faq - that this won't be the last book centering around Simeon and Angel. However, since it's removed, that might not be a sure thing anymore. I truly hope this won't be the last as I find that three books aren't enough.

Re-read: 17.11.2019
I only have two questions after this quick - very quick - re-read; is Nica more powerful than Angel? And will this book be the last book in this series centering around Angel and Simeon as the main characters?

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*Can Contain Spoilers*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

This time, you get the POVs of the only necromancer in all of Boston Angel Salvatore's (30) mate, First Elder of Boston bloodclan, Simeon Ó Daimhín (over 400 years old), Angel's brother, Isaac Salvatore (23), Angel's apprentice, Daniel Macavoy (20) and Angel's familiar Eroch. And of course Angel. Put it's nice to see others perspectives as well, specially the new one, Eroch. I'm always wonder what is going on in that little dragon's head. Wanting to know if he truly likes Angel or not. The book was filled with magic, betrayals, action, magical creatures, tears, blood and sweat, but also love, friendship and family. It literally has all and this series is definitely recommended.

Overall, I liked seeing the family grow even closer, though it sucked that Isaac was apart from the family most of the book. It's also quite obvious as to who Isaac and Daniel's love interest will be in their books. As I've heard, Isaac's book is next in the series, then Daniel's. I certainly hope we'll get another book with Angel and Simeon, as I don't want to say goodbye to them yet. They are a great couple, both powerful in their own right and absolutely beautiful together. As we've seen Angel as a bit of a parental figure to both Isaac and Daniel, I hope we'll get to see them actually have a child of their own, where we can see Simeon as a father.... would've been amazing!

Other Characters:
I've added this is a spoiler tag as the list is a bit long.

“I will love you forever, mo ghra. Our love will outlast the sun,”

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (Adult) Paranormal Romance (M/M)
Series: - Series, Book Three.
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Simeon ‘Celt’ Ó Daimhín.
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Sure.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Sure.
Will I read this again in the future? - Who knows.
Rating - 3.5/3 stars.

4 Hearts!!

This series just gets better and better and what I love about this is the complex world that’s full of sorcerers and vampires and all sorts of supernatural beings that live in a tentative harmony with humans. Here, it’s that very harmony that is threatened when the High Council of Magic, a powerful entity that governs practitioners, expresses a not so friendly interest in our hero, Angel.

There’s not really any point in rehashing the plot. If you haven’t started this series, then I highly recommend delving into The Necromancer's Dance where it all begins. What I will say is that this is fast paced, full of action and magic, and never short on the power plays encompassing the complex magical/supernatural hierarchy that abounds.

Bit by bit, Himes reveals more about this fascinating AU and it wasn’t nearly enough. Let’s just say Angel and Simeon continue to make a formidable pair, and it’s their very bond that is coveted for nefarious means. However, they’re nobody’s pawn, and whoever deigns to think they’ll easily submit or succumb are in for a brutal rude awakening.

This had some editing issues for those who need to know. It was also more lite on the smex than the previous installments. However, those things hardly mattered. There’s enough to propel the reader through, including blossoming romances regarding brother Isaac and vampire master Batiste, as well as a nice nudge for apprentice Daniel towards an enigmatic fae. AND don’t forget the bestest cutest dragon familiar ever who steals every scene he’s in! I love you Eroch!

So, I obviously enjoyed this. The only thing that sucks donkey balls is the unknown amount of waiting I will have to endure until the next book comes out! Darn!

Thank you to the author/publisher for a copy in exchange for a honest review

Reread April 2021

Still loving it.

Reread November 2018

So far, this is the best one in the series. Keeping my fingers crossed Isaac's book is out soon!

Originally read May 2018

OMG! I had hoped this book would be good and it did not disappoint. S.J. Himes is a goddess. I love her writing and the worlds she creates.

There are many trials and tribulations in this one. I was on pins and needles and I couldn't stop reading. Characters healing or coming into their own. New relationships forming (Holy Shit! I can't wait for Isaac's book and then Daniel's.....no spoilers as to their love interests...But, I just know I'm going to be mega-swooning.)

This is definitely one of my favorite series and I'm looking forward to more ASAP!

Look, if you can't be entertained by a book that has a mini dragon that is in a war with the pigeon population then you have problems that I really can't help you with.

The victors eat the losers!

So, Angel is a necromancer who has become way more powerful now that he is bonded with a vampire because of the necromancy that make a vamp a living corpse. He is such a badass now that the elusive council that supposedly rules sorcerers have decided to come to America to capture and use him for his powers have a chat. It goes about how you would expect.

Ha! They thought cute little Angel wouldn't be a problem. Think again, buckos!

There is one thing to be said for this series for sure: there is a hella lot going on at all times. You will never be bored, so that's a plus, but it will also maybe make you appreciate your pandemic lifestyle because just following along with these guys is tiring. They would really benefit from a 2-week quarantine like we have since last year.

And get fat. Anyone out there who hasn't gained the Quarantine 15? I mean, you may not have noticed with the pandemic uniform of stretchy pants, but....yeah. it's there.

So there is a lot going on and it never gets boring. Also, the side characters are super intriguing. I am literally (not literally) excited for books on the other couples that are developing.

The only downside to this series is that there is a little too many explanations for things that you pretty much know if you've read this far. It's like someone mansplaining your period to you.

Re-read 16th - 17th September 2022

Re-read 8th - 10th March 2021

Re-read 3rd - 4th January 2019
With the fourth book Mastering the Flames on the horizon I thought I’d do a re-read.

This is the third book in this series and yes the previous two books need to be read first. I even did a re-read and I’m so glad I did.

I loved this book.

I also think it’s the best one so far although it has some strong competition.

Angel’s life is much fuller than he ever imagined it would be. But his brother is suffering and that means Angel is suffering too. Angel knows he has to do something to save his brother but what effect will it have on their tenuous relationship?

Daniel is thriving under Angels care but danger is hovering in the form of The High Council of Sorcery. They want Angel and seek to control him through Daniel but they have to get Daniel first. And there’s no way Angel is letting him go.

Angel and Simeon grow stronger by the day and their love for each other completes them.

There’s so much happening here that I’m not even going to start to summarise.
I couldn’t put it down and I spent most of the book gripping my kindle.

It’s an incredible world that’s been created here and the characters have worked their way into my heart.

I can’t wait for the next book.

This thrilling third book in The Beacon Hill Sorcerer series is by far my favorite. I might have said that with the last book but I was proven wrong and I could very well eat my words again. Probably will but first…I LOVE ANGEL AND SIMEON!!!
Okay, sorry, *grin* I had to get that out. We pick up where the last book left off. They just want to live their lives and yet the world continues to need them. Daring rescues, dramatic duels, and love so true, your eyes will mist without your permission…yes, this book has all of that and more. A time of reckoning has come. This addictive action-packed story held me captive from the very first page. If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Angel and Simeon yet, there’s no time like the present…go! And join me in my infatuation. The ride’s not over, there’s still more to come. But first, let’s quickly recap what happens here.

What's to like: Angel’s brother, Isaac, has been walking across the edge of a slippery slope for years and he’s losing his footing. Angel has always protected him, that’s what he does but it’s time to admit Issac needs more than Angel can give him. Tough love forces difficult decisions and thankfully Angel has his own support system now. We are introduced to several new faces and I embraced most of them. Gotta have some bad guys and Angel boldly faces them with fierce bravery. Simeon wouldn’t deny how attractive his fearless mate is but I must agree, courage is hot! As much as I enjoyed their entertaining adventures what I truly loved most was…them. Their passion and deep faith in one another is *sigh* dreamy.

What's to love: This potent tale consumed me. As with the previous two books, the charismatic characters were more than entertaining, they have become special to me. Of course, my heart races for Angel and Simeon but I’ve also grown fond of the others. That includes wee beasties and hounds! With Isaac away taking care of himself, Daniel is alone and feeling vulnerable. When the Big Brothers of witchcraft suddenly appear in town, Angel knows they are up to…something. Getting to the bottom of their malicious intentions is not a task too great it’s merely inconvenient. There are other issues to tend to. Unfortunately, they force themselves to the top of Simeon’s beloved’s neverending to-do list. This dazzling couple battles side by side and will fight anyone or anything that dares to threaten them or their family. It was exhilarating but more than that, the heady rush of their love overwhelmed me. Solid stuff my friends.

Beware of: Bloodshed…if they want a war, they shall have one. Affection…there’s nothing quite like a brush with death to remind us how precious our loved ones are. Rapid-fire…the clip is swift but the navigation is clear. Quick tip? Hang on!

This book is for: Calling all urban fantasy and paranormal romance lovers…this spectacular series deserves your attention. I hope it brings you a fraction of the joy it has brought me.

Undead monsters.
Nasty sorcerers.
Evil vampires.
Duels and epic fights.
And Angel and Simeon simply ROCK!

SJ Himes certainly likes throwing one huge challenge after another at Angel and Simeon.
I could hardly catch my breath as Angel and his loved-ones face threats upon threats and mortal danger.

I love how the author intertwines action and romance and shows how Angel and Simeon’s bond grows in depth and magic. And aren’t all those side effects to this just glorious! Not even mentioning the increasing steam and heat of their love making! They're an unbeatable duo on all levels, and I adore how their relationship just gets better and better.

We also get introduced to the pairings of the next two books, and I can’t hardly say how much I’m looking forward to Daniel and Rory, Isaac and Batiste! (and isn’t Angel going to throw a fit at the latter pairing!)

Eroch is decidedly in the run for ‘Best Pet’ in a drama series this year! His antics really lighten the sometimes somber events and made me grin again and again.

Interesting how the POV has changed from book 1 (Angel’s only) to book 2 (Angel and Simeon) to 5 different POV’s here, which imo works brilliantly. You can probably guess who the four are, but I was very intrigued by the fifth.

Fabulous series!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I moved straight on to this after finishing Dilemma, thank goodness I didn’t have to wait because it was everything I’d hoped for and more. Angel is up against so much and I love that he never once let it get on top of him or beat him. Simeon is his other half, his 110% support and man oh man, I LOVE the way they love. Utter perfection.

The world building is even better in this third book, if that’s even possible. The author’s imagination and storytelling ability is beyond superb. Yes, I’m gushing but there really is no other way to sum up just how blown away I am by this series, days later and I’m still thinking about it and have the mother of all book hangovers.

Now I need Isaac’s book, do I ever!

Don't mess with the necromancer...

4.5 stars
One thing Angel will not stand is someone coming after his love ones. So when the high council of sorcery threatens to take Daniel into custody and put Angel on trial for infractions he has supposedly committed, he is angry and won't stand for it. No matter the challenge Angel does not fear it. He knows the council is after something else and is using his connection to Daniel to lure him in. With Angel's bond with Simeon, he is protected by the blood clan and the council has no power over them. It doesn't mean they won't do everything in their power to try and get to him. Angel along with Simeon will fight with everything they have to protect what is theirs. The one positive is whole time Angel is fighting off the council his brother, Isaac, is protected and in rehab. Which gives him at least on less thing to worry about lol.
Overall this was another great read. It was an action packed ending to Angel's POV. So much went on in this one. I'm just glad it was all resolved. I'm not sure how I would cope with a cliffhanger lol. It is bittersweet that Angel's POV is over but the next book will be in Isaac's POV and I really look forward to reading it especially to see what happens between him and Constantine. Unfortunately, I have to wait for a release date on that one 😭 For now I'll just console myself with the shorts.

This was worth every single day that I waited to get to "hear" Angel & Simeon, and it was actual freaking torture to watch everybody else read it and waaaaaaaait!

SJ Himes has jumped right up to the top of my auto-buy authors. And though I've absolutely loved everything I've read by her, this series is my favorite. I missed them all so much. Angel is still the snarky, cynical, give-no-fucks, absolutely badass necromancer that charmed me in the very first book, and Simeon is just as dangerous, sexy, fiercely protective and meltingly in love with Angel as ever. *swoon*

I loved seeing Daniel get some justice and I'm really happy that Isaac seems to be coming out of the self-destruction he has been bent on for so long.

And the romances I feel coming? Oh yes! I adored listening to Joel Leslie bring this book-world to life for me, and while it was well worth the wait, there's no way I can do it again, LOL. I have Mastering the Flames waiting on my kindle for me. :) I can't wait!

The Beacon Hill Sorcerer series is one of my favorite urban fantasy series, and part of that is just how mind-blowingly well Joel Leslie brings this cast of characters to life. Leslie is simply brilliant, performing a ton of character voices with distinctive tones and/or accents, and highlighting everything happening in The Necromancer's Reckoning, from the sweeter, more romantic moments between Angel and Simeon, to the kicking ass and taking names portions of the story.

I was completely immersed from the first minute, and honestly surprised by how fast the nine and half hours went. It's a great listen, with fantastic world-building, and I love how Angel always handles everything in his own inimitable style as a complete badass. Plus, we get to see from Simeon's point of view what happens when you kidnap the Leannán anam of a vampire elder. But a Wendigo, Angel?!

You know who I really feel for in this series? Detective O'Malley. I wonder if O'Malley's boss ever called him in and laid out the whole, "He likes you, he works as well as can be expected with you, so we're just gonna have you be the liaison to Angel Salvatore and any bullshit he does." and O'Malley went home, drank a bottle of scotch, and decided to just stop fighting it and relax into it. That's a short story I'd be into reading, but I digress.

The Necromancer's Reckoning is told mainly from Angel's POV, but does include multiple POV, including one from Eroch! (I love the beastie!). The whole story is action-packed with Angel taking on the High Council of Sorcery, a grave robbing theft ring that uses the ghosts of dearly departed, and multiple attempts on Angel's apprentice, Daniel, while also dealing with vampire politics, and getting his brother Isaac into rehab.

I'm not going to lie, Angel and Simeon's love makes me gooey, and the series as a whole is written so well I highly recommend you picking it up, but if you have the extra coin available, I'd definitely gently push you towards investing in the audiobooks because they're fantastic and absolutely worth it.
"I will love you forever, mo ghra. Our love will outlast the sun," Simeon promised, right before kissing Angel breathless.

Great series!

Let me preface this review with this: I had a great time reading this story. The characters, the plot, the pacing...it is all spot on. Told from multiple POV, this seems like it might be the last book that comes mainly from Angel's perspective, which I'm sad about, because I love these characters and this world S.J. Himes has written.
Angel took Simeon’s face in his hands and stared deep into his mate’s emerald eyes. “No, Simeon. If you die, I die. I’ve been there in the dark place before, those I love gone on without me, a wasteland of grief and death and nothingness. I don’t have the strength or the will to survive it again. I set death on fire to end the pain, and I would not hesitate to do it all again. I love you, which means I want a long, long life with you.”

I took three things away from this: 1. Angel is a complete badass. 2. Angel and Simeon's love makes me gooey. 3. The supporting characters, who all get chances for a section or chapter in their own POV (including the wee beastie!) btw, are so great and I want all their stories too.

I'm really looking forward to reading Isaac's story next.

Almost perfect 5 hellfire-breathing stars

I swear, this series is getting better with every book - the world gets more complex without slaying you with an info-dump, the characters are multi layered, and the action scenes are more intense.

Angel and Simeon don't get time to relax - now the High Council of Sorcery is after them, trying to blackmail into compliance them by using Daniel as a bargaining chip.

On top of that, grave robbers are trying to get hold of ghosts. And an undead fiend at the vampire tower is rearing his ugly head.

All in all, a lot of fodder for packed action scenes. But throughout the book, we still get intense and smexy moments between Simeon (sigh) and Angel, Batiste (even louder sigh - obviously I have a thing for mysterious vampires) and Isaac - and Daniel and Rory, the resurrected Fae from the previous book.

And ofc Eroch, the cutest and at the same time scariest dragon/demon.

What I enjoyed: we don't get only Angel's (and Simeon's) POV - we have (albeit to a smaller degree) POVs from Isaac, Daniel - and Eroch the Dragon, which proved to be a really interesting foray. Isaac and Daniel are paving the path to their own romances, and I'm more that a little intrigued by Batiste.

Also, the brief introduction of Nica Miel made me curious - I hope we'll see more of him in the future, he seems to be a very interesting character.

Now excuse me while I'm off listening to Isaac's book :)

I really enjoyed this book. SJ Himes nailed it! Again! This novel was so finely written! So many details, new creatures and characters new and old made it so fascinating for me! We see how close Angel and Simeon are, how much strength the draw from each other. Even though there wasn't much s*e*x here I still loved it. All that confidence and power makes them both so sexy! Their bond is so beautiful! One of the best para couples!

Batiste surprised me and I liked the direction where he is headed. Isaac is finally on the mend. I am happy for Daniel and the way everything turned out for him. There are a lot of things uncovered from the past and many enemies defeated. I loved the use of magic, the intricacies of spells and runes! The fights were engaging and wicked cool!

I genuinely enjoy reading about witches and necromancers in particular so this was treat for me. I loved all the books in this series! I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. So it will definitely be a reread for me in the future!

This was so good! The wait was so worth it!

Just when you think all the shit Angel and Simeon can be put through is now over, the High Counsel in Romania has decided they want Angel and Simeon because of their powerful mate bond and Angel's power in general, and try to act like Angel has broken magical laws in order to capture him. It's bullshit, and Angel knows it.

Plus, a fairly straight forward case that lands in Angel's hands becomes much bigger, but the Counsel being big assholes refuses to leave makes the case that is already growing more complicated even worse, and in a span of about a day or a little more, Angel uses more magic than he has in a long time.

But he has his mate and love of his life, Simeon, with him through it all, there to rescue him if needed or help him, standing at his back always.

Their love is special and I just loved seeing them so settled in their coupledom. I do wish we had gotten some more steam - but this story was more setting up Isaac and Daniel for their love stories than the previous ones and Angel and Simeon didn't really have anything they needed to get through, romance wise in this story, because they're really damn solid at this point in the series, so I can see why the steam was put a little on the back burner. And we still got a steamy sex scene in the middle that was more than enough ;)

This series is just so fun to read, it's so well written and we get to read about adventures of sorcerers and a necromancer and vampires.

I put HFN, but I feel like I could have put HEA for Angel and Simeon - but we'll most likely see a lot more of them in Isaac and Daniel's books so I'm putting HFN for now, although it's a damn solid HFN :D (which makes me incredibly happy).

Isaac and Batiste are already so intriguing and since Angel put a hex on Batiste, he can't charm Isaac - but Batiste already wouldn't do it again to Isaac anyway, and I believe it because Batiste really is a good guy and he's definitely enamored with Isaac, and after Angel reamed into him, yeah Batiste sees the error of his ways and how wrong it was to charm Isaac into kissing him.

But also...Isaac doesn't need to be charmed to want Batiste ;)

Also, Daniel has a romance brewing too, with the fae that Angel saved in the previous book (and whose twin brother is in jail for the crimes he committed) and since he told Daniel to call him Rory, I will too because it's easier to remember how to spell than his real name haha. But yeah, they're already really sweet together, but I think they'll be friends a bit before anything happens. But ohhh man I bet their romance will be cute and sweet and I can't wait.

Oh so good! Definitely recommend this, it took awhile to get here, but it's worth it! Loved it!

First off, F*CK the High Council of Sorcery very much and thank you. What bunch of despicable things parading themselves as human beings! Ew.

With that off my chest, once again, I absolutely devoured this book which unfortunately is the last instalment with Angel and Simeon and the main protagonists :( . I have come to love both men and really don't want to see them go.

However, knowing this author and what I know to be an incredible skill at weaving stories, I am not really worried for the rest of the series.

So yeah, this book was essentially a showdown between Angel and the High Council and gave us a view of how TRULY badass Angelus Salvatore really is. He wiped the floor with them and walked away like a BOSS. I never wanted it to end people. Never. Lol

Isaac and Batiste's book is next and yes of course I'll be reading it!!

Still in my paranormal phase I believed it a good idea to read the next story about my favorite necromancer. Wasn't a bad idea, the story is still a good one but Angel's life changed for the good and so did Angel himself. The guy deserves this after all that happened in his past but now that his mating and love to Simeon has grounded him, now that his brother although struggling with his guilt and addiction doesn't fight him anymore but accepts him as the big brother he is, now that even his young apprentice is part of his growing family together with the cute dragon and even Boston doesn't believe him as a complete monster and certain threat anymore there's not much left anymore to tell about Angel except give him some more adventures and challenges like a political and then violent battle with the sorcerer society but as nice as this is to watch Angel is described as too powerful to ever feel like those enemies are are real threat and even when they focus on the weaker guys of his made family they immediately find powerful supporter, though ... seems Angel's story came to an enjoyable end.

When I started this series I had no idea that I would be pulled into the world of sorcery, vampires, Fae and more... I have come to love this series and all of its mystical characters.

Angelus Salvatore (Necromancer) & Simeon, Elder Vampire, Champion of the Blood Clan, -- these two are a powerful couple, with trouble always lurking around the corner. This makes for a fast-paced, action packed storyline --- which sometimes got in the way of the romance. However, even with the action and magical battles, the love between Angel and Simeon is always present.

I have enjoyed the first two books in this series via audio Book so reading this one was a treat! I am eager to read the next book in the series and see how the Younger Salvatore Brother and a certain Vampire Master get a long. It will be the classic retelling of "Fire & Ice" ~ sure to be a pleasure!

4.5 stars ~ I do hope to see more of Simeon and Angelus in books to come!

Well, I started this one but then I got sucked up in the Perpetual Reread, (yes, I'm looking right at you, guys), and I had to put this book aside because I've never been able to read more than one book at the same time.
This book wasn't bad at all, but I felt it dragged for some time. I understand that was for a reason, we're being introduced to further developments in the series and I'm sure my appreciation of this story suffered due to the "PR", but there's nothing I can do about that.
I feel some of the things addressed in this book related to Simeon and Angel could have been solved in the previous one and I think this was more like a transition book that leads us to Daniel and Isaac stories. Still enjoyable. I'm ready to know what happens next.

Oooo..!!!

This was one very exciting instalment!! I’m so glad I resumed this series and it’s all thanks to that little novella (sorry, can’t remember the name 🙊)

This had everything! Slightly over the top but it is fantasy and magic and supernatural beings so really, what is over the top? 😜

I like that we see more than just Angel and Simeon here. There’s bits and pieces of Issac and Daniel’s POVs as well as Eroch’s! Interestingly enough 🤓

Welp, on to the next book in this series, I guess. I hope we have more outtakes. It was fun 🥰

Action Packed!

Wow! The action never stops in this third wonderful installment by SJ Himes. I loved every minute of it!

The baddies here come from abroad and they’re so OTT it’s beautiful! They have no remorse or morals. Of course you want to kill them. Or at least have Angel or Simeon kill them.

The mate bond between Angel and Simeon is now complete and at full strength....something that Angelus needs in the short span of this book.

We get to meet a couple new and interesting creatures, Simeon calls his hellhound again, and Eroch has a trick up his scales.

This is a fun one. A lot happened....maybe too much? It was a bit like me, ADHD without the hyper focus. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next one and seeing where the thing with Batiste and Isaac goes and the thing with Daniel and Rory.

Enjoy! I sure did!
