गाँधी को लेकर एक बड़ा और चर्चित उपन्यास लिख चुके गिरिराज जी इस उपन्यास में कस्तूरबा गाँधी को लेकर आए हैं ! गाँधी जैसे व्यक्तित्व की पत्नी के रूप में एक स्त्री का स्वयं अपने और साथ ही देश की आजादी के आन्दोलन से जुदा दोहरा संघर्ष ! ऐसे दस्तावेज बहुत कम हैं जिनमे कस्तूरबा के निजी जीवन या उनकी व्यक्ति-रूप में पहचान को रेखांकित किया जा सका हो ! नहीं के बराबर ! इसी लिए उपन्यासकार को भी इस रचना के लिए कई स्तरों पर शोध करना पड़ा ! जो किताबें उपलब्ध थीं, उनको पढ़ा, जिन जगहों से बा का सम्बन्ध था उनकी भीतरी और बाहरी यात्रा की और उन लोगों से भी मेले जिनके पास बा से सम्बंधित कोई भी सूचना मिल सकती थी ! इतनी मशक्कत के बाद आकार पा सका यह उपन्यास अपने उद्देश्य में इतनी सम्पूर्णता के साथ सफल हुआ है, यह सुखद है !

37 books8 followersDr. Giriraj Kishore was born on 8th July, 1937 at Muzaffarnager in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. He is a well-known Indian novelist, apart from being an accomplished short story writer, playwright and critic.
He was awarded the Sahitya Academy award in 1992 for his novel ‘Dhai ghar’. His novel ‘Pahla Girmitiya (The First Indentured Labour)’ chronicles Gandhijee’s struggle in South Africa.
He was awarded the Padma Shree by the Indian Government on 23rd March 2007 for his contribution to literature and education.
Some of his published works are as follows:
Story collection-neem ke phool, chaar moti beaab, paperweight, Saher-der-saher etc
Plays-Narmegh, Praja hi rehne do
Novels-Pehla girmitiya, Dhai ghar, Chidiyaghar etc

This is one of the best books I read this year.

Kasturba was a fierce and independent woman. I didnt know this untill i read this book. I always referred to her as Gandhiji's wife. But she is more than that.

She was a beautiful and loyal girl. She played with Mohandas in her young days. Later on, got married to him. He was a shy man. The way she conducted herself and her household was commendable.

This book is her journey from childhood to adulthood to the nation's independence, her struggles, her sacrifices, her empowerment.
.
Her struggle with human rights for indians in south africa is well described.
.
The book is a fictional biography and the author has done justice to her work for the independence.

I felt bad when she died in the Agah khan palace, I was numb but proud.

Kindle suggests some random books and sometimes truly unique or weird books.
Giriraj Kishore has written this bio-fiction very well and the attempt is really nice.
It explains the main formative years of her and Gandhiji's relationship in detail.
We can see how focus on one thing i.e. independence using non-violence affects other important things like strained relationship with family.
If we credit Gandhiji with freedom of India then Kasturba must be credited with creating and maintaining someone like Gandhiji!
However it should have mentioned or touched controversial topics like Gandhiji practicing his celibacy with young girls and Kasturba's stand on it.

A Child bride, wife, mother of four sons and a political activist. Here, Kasturba maintains a balance between everything, the dilemma, the complex thinking, all kind of issue that women faces. Furthermore, it beautifully captures the vision and mindset of her, She sets a strong example for today's women as a multitasker.

कस्तूरबा गांधी की जीवनी बा पढ़ने से पहले मैं गिरिराज किशोर जी की १) पहला गिरमिटिया २) ढाई घर ३)स्वर्णमिर्ग ४) आंजनेये जयते ५) गिरिराज किशोर की लोकप्रिय कहानियां पढ़ चुका था। अपनी खास शैली में लिखी गई जीवनी मुझे कुछ खास नहीं लगी क्योंकि उनके पास बा के लिए लिखने को कुछ खास नहीं था। किताब का ज्यादातर हिस्सा गांधी के ही बारे में था जिसपर विस्तार से मैं पहले ही पहला गिरमिटिया में पढ़ चुका था। उत्तरार्ध में बा का राजनीतिक जीवन थोड़ा ज्यादा मुखर था इसलिए अंतिम १०० पन्ने मुझे ज्यादा जचे। उपन्यास में ऐसा कुछ भी नहीं था जो कुछ खास बता सकें। मैने कल्पना की की अगर यही किताब भेरप्पा लिखते तो यह कितनी अलग हो सकती थी। किशोर जी ने कहीं भी किसी भी पात्र के मन की थाह लेने की कोशिश नहीं की। इसलिए यह किताब ज्यादा शुष्क और नीरस लगी।
फिर भी जिन्हें कस्तूरबा गांधी के बारे में जानने में रुचि है इसे पढ़ सकते है।
मेरे हिसाब से यह 4/10 किताब है। इतने बड़े वक्तित्व के ऊपर बहुत कुछ लिखा जा सकता था।
