When I read the story, I couldn't help but think that the text is an idyllic look at modern society, with children having diverse friends and caring teachers, along with befriending classmates in need in a society that values education and college. For classroom instruction I would use this book to try to show the class that it is important to befriend new students or students from other countries, because they can become your best friends and be good at activities or sports just like any other friend. I would recommend this book to other teachers because in the end of the story it tries to remind students that there parents will come to pick them up at the end of the day, a concept that often caused anxiety and tears among many students I taught. I would also recommend this book because it highlights friendships and cooperation among different groups of people.
