In 1947, Englewood Elementary principal Mr. McGee created a massive treasure hunt for his students. There was just one problem — he disappeared before he could give the first clue. Seventy years later, third-grader Leila Beal is back on the case. Can she and her dog, Nugget, dig up enough old clues to find the mysterious treasure before it’s gone for good?
Leila and Nugget Mysteries are funny, action-packed chapter books that get even reluctant readers to beg for one more chapter before bed. They’re perfect for 6- to 10-year-old girls who love spunky heroes, cute dogs and exciting mysteries.
This is an easy to listen to, cute mystery adventure story for children, which I really enjoyed listening to, as it was fun.
The story is about Leila and her dog Nugget, who set out to find some treasure at a school. The man who was the principal of the school many years ago created a treasure hunt, but he didn't leave any clues. Leila and her friends have to work everything out by themselves.
The audiobook narrator had a great voice, which was cute and sweet and perfect for children to listen to. If you are looking for a short and sweet audiobook for you or your child, then you will love this book. Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the author, narrator, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
This story is adorable! I love that the detective is a young girl and that her cast of characters include not only her best friend, but also her dog, an elderly neighbor, and her “nemesis” at school. This book falls completely within the primary school age bracket. The situations and ultimate “message of the story” are much to in-your-face for anyone over the age of 10, but it’s well done for the younger kiddos. Leila is charming without being overly precocious and sweet without crossing into saccharine. The mystery is fun to follow and I can’t wait for Leila and Nugget’s next adventure! I think the voice narration was great - appropriately childlike without crossing into caricature. The length of the audiobook is perfect for a long car trip or waiting for an appointment. Thank you to #NetGalley and #AndrewsMcMeelAudio for an ALC in exchange for my honest opinions.
