Times Square on New Year’s Eve. A million partiers chanting the final seconds. This year, it’s a countdown to death.

My name is Twyla Tafel and I’ve uncovered an insane plot to unleash berserk vampires on those unsuspecting revelers. I have to stop it, armed only with my great admin skills, my useless art degree—and Nikos, a severely hot vampire who I’d love to photograph a

If I had been paying attention, I'd have noticed that the description gives this book as 66 pages. A short story, really, or a novella at best. Less than half as long as Biting Nixie. I first noticed this when the characters got to Times Square and I was nearing 60% complete on the Kindle edition. Not that I don't like Twyla and Nikos, but the short format didn't allow time for me to connect with them like I did with Nixie and Julian. Yes, the sex is hot. No, there weren't a lot of "false starts ...more

If you're unfamiliar with Mary Hughes' Biting Love series...well...rectify that as soon as possible, but don't start here. The series starts with Bite My Fire and continues with the stronger second installment, Biting Nixie, and they're fun, relatively light, but definitely sexy/steamy/erotic vamp romance novels that blend humor and danger together quite nicely. The Bite of Silence is a novella-length story within the world, though not necessarily considered a part of the series, and but it fall ...more

Humm. well that was short but .... sweet?
I don't know - the whole story was sex mixed with a little tiny bit of mystery of how to solve the rest of the vampires in the world - it all happened in one day - the plane ride to New York - then it was about 4:00 when they landed - then all of a sudden (about 4 or 5 maybe it was 6 different bedroom scenes later) it was 10:20 and they needed to get to Town Square .
The ball dropped (It was New Years Eve) and then they were on the plane back home confes

A few days ago I ranted about writing love scenes in a bland, cliche fashion—throbbing members, cream, tight sheaths, etc. Well in Bite of Silence you won't be getting that. Indeed Hughes writes scintillating, love making scenes, with a light touch. There is no typical nookie here! If there is any issue with the book it is the titanic dimensions of the immortal Spartan in Twyla's dreams. his hand spanned her entire back. And, the size of certain parts of his anatomy defy all logic (In Young Fran ...more

Downloaded this from amazon for free, figuring for the price how could I lose? I absolutely loved it!! I love stories with a humorous twist and this one had me laughing out loud more than once. The hero is a dark, mysterious, and incredibly sexy vampire, the heroine smart & witty, and there's plenty of smokin' hot sex. What more could a girl want?

I'm off to find more of Mary Hughes' vamp stories...and I am more than willing to pay for the rest! :)

Merry Christmas!!

The length of this was a disappointment, insulting really, considering the length of the previous two. Should've been labelled as 2.6.

The biggest issue I have is that in book two it introduces Twyla as an interesting character you're looking forward to have a book of her own, only to have her story rushed and crammed into something smaller than a novella, about a quarter of the size of the previous novels. The guy she ends up with (Nikos) is new, and given nowhere near enough time for you to get

The Bite of Silence by Mary Hughes is a very good novella. This short read is sexy and fun. Featuring the romance between Twyla and Nikos. For a change of pace are characters are out of Meiers Corners and in NYC for New Year's Eve. This fast paced, race against the clock is chock full of sexiness and steam. My one complaint was It seemed like I was reading this book out of order even though it is listed as book #3. I'm not sure what is going on with that. A very entertaining addition to the Biti ...more

Twyla wants to go to New York for New Years. Talks her cousin into letting her stay at his place. Nikos goes to New York on business, and Twyla guesses him to be a vampire. Next thing they know it’s a race to stop a bloodbath. The intensity is high. Will they be able to stop it in time? The chemistry between Twyla and Nikos is scorching.

This is a short novella between the novels and it was wonderful! Lots of drama, suspense and sexy times. Because the story was much shorter it started with a bang and never stopped...all the happenings of a longer novel packed into a short one.

A first person POV romance! Be still my heart.

I really enjoyed Mary Hughes' voice. Lots of humor...and heat. Lots and lots o' heat.

3.5 stars.

This is a New Year's holiday themed, paranormal erotic romance short story. What I really liked about this was Twyla's voice. It was funny:
Every time I'd made an overture he'd dismissed me with a few well-chosen words. It only sank my fascination deeper. I was reduced to needling him whenever I saw him, just to get a reaction.
and it was relatable - to me, at least:
"I was speechless. Nikos thought I was attractive? And all the other good stuff? He must have felt pretty strong

This installment of The Biting Series by Mary Hughes was such a quick and fun read! Twyla Tafel and Nikos are the main characters in this book and are just as much fun as Elena and Bo and Nixie and Julian! Unfortunately, we don’t see much of the other Meier’s Corner’s residents but we do meet Twyla’s cousin Aylmer, “The Bite of Silence” is set in New York City on New Year’s Eve. Twyla has set out to visit her cousin in the city so that she could spread he
I picked up this book as a free download from Amazon back in December and I didn't realize it until after I started reading it last night that it's the 2nd (and a half) in a series. Unfortunately, this left me floundering a bit as I tried to figure out who was who and why they were doing what they were doing.

While I enjoyed both the idea behind the story and the writing style, I have to admit that one thing that makes me twitch is when a character talks in slang to the point where I don't unders

This book was completely hysterical. Was it high literature? No. Did it have much of a storyline? No. But did I just about wee myself laughing at the sheer improbability of it all? You betcha - and that's why it gets 4 stars for what is essentially vampire porn.

I got the book for free (courtesy, as always, of Freebooksy), and as per all of the free books I download, didn't read the blurb or see the cover. Thus, it's always a surprise. Of course, often the 'surprise' is the complete lack of story
It’s almost New Year’s and Twyla Tafel, executive admin for the mayor of Meiers Corners, is heading to New York to party. What she doesn’t expect is to see Nikos, a Spartan vampire hotter than any 300 actor, on the same plane as her. Too bad the only time Twyla can get Nikos to talk to her is when she’s needling him. But all that changes in the Big Apple when Twyla uncovers a plot to let loose crazed vampires in Times Square on New Year’s Eve. Twyla needs Nikos’s help to stop the plot before blo ...more
#7 for the COYER Scavenger Hunt - Read a book with a man on the cover (and no other people).

I picked this up as a Freebie about 4 1/2 years ago now, because freebie, and vampires, and the New Year's Eve in Times Square aspect was fun to me.

This may be spoilery, so be aware.

We have Nikos, the domineering, gruff, millenias old vampire and Twyla, self deprecating, but looking for adventure and excitement on this night of ringing out the old and bringing in the new. Having not read the previous boo

A free read from Amazon, I throughly enjoyed it. Spartan hot vampire, versus smart and witty heroine. The cover is as good as the read. I hadnt previously read the two books prior, however wished I had, but this did not deter me from finishing it. Hot sex, action and mystery my first read from this author and I must say Id be happy to pay for more of her books.
The storyline was constant never a bore, had me rivited from begining to end. I enjoyed the characters, the plot = storyline being consi
This was a kindle freebie today and free is good. A bit on the erotic side for my tastes, the hero is a vamp and the description of his fangs and man parts were over the top in the size department. The back story was simple - got to save New York from a vamp bloodbath on New Year's Eve - and it is the fourth book in the series, so I might have enjoyed it more if I'd been waiting for this pair to get together. There were some funny parts at the start of the story, when the heroine can't get the h ...more

I don't know why authors think writing a romance novel has to do with SEX ALL THE TIME. Unless I am wrong. What do you think People? I've read alot of romance novels, and many of them are about love between two people, and how there express their feelings to each other. And what there willing to do to be together. Having sex every other page is not LOVE. PEOPLE ARE GETTING confused. Not that I am against Sex, its just that authors OVER DO IT.

I didnt like the plot. I didnt like

3.5 stars. It may have gotten another star if I knew it was part of a series before I read it. I felt a bit as if I was dropped in the middle of a story, and now I know why! I love a big, strong, dominant man, so this fit the bill. But it was very short, and didn't have enough time to get to know the characters well enough. Also, I feel as if I read a very similar story before.....lights programmed to trigger something in a vampire. But I don't know where.

I am putting this series on my "maybe"

I knew there'd be a little sex, it's a fantasy novel and he supernatural are super hot, but this was more Fifty Shades with a vampire so it could be marketed as something besides written porn since I'm petty sure the target audience is teenage girls. Good thing it was free since I gave up about halfway. It was basically 5 pgs of sex, maybe three pages of dialogue and wannabe story line to get back in bed with the vampire who's junk was "twice the size of a human man" and therefore to be worshipp ...more

A quick-reading, humorous, sexy novella with a seriously dangerous countdown in Times Square at New Year's Eve. Mary Hughes scores again with her snarky and sassy first person narrative from the human woman partner's view in a twosome with one of Hughes' seriously sexy and powerful vampires of the Meiers Corners world. The only complaint I had was the short length since the e-version I had included so many additional teasers from upcoming authors' works that Hughes' work seemed to take no more t ...more

Hot quick read. I need more ties for hubby.

Simply touching on previous characters you get a fast and furiuos romance that includes the mile high club, a hermit with a tin foil hat, idiot vampire delivery boys, and a smokin hot dominating vamp with a foot long cock.

More please Mary!

On to the next book.
3.5 Stars for The Bite of Silence.

I really enjoyed this sexy, vampire romance. Nikos, vampire, former Spartan general, and down-right hottie and Twyla, art expert, made a fun couple. Good banter and lots of hot action (including some mile-high smex)!

Favorite Quote: "Two hours of foreplay? Butter me and throw away the twist-tie, 'cause I was toast!"

Fun read; recommended.
I don't know about this short story, but I do know that I loved the hero; and probably nothing more out of this book. I mean the plot was a little different and cool, I mean with the New Year's Eve conspiracy against vampires; but the action was not described as thoroughly as you would expect. And that is the only reason that I am giving the book 3 stars, because of the overall plot.
So glad I came back to this. I got it free a long time ago and put it on hold after starting because the story and character motivations didn't seem to make sense. Then I found it was part of a series and now that I've read it in order I really liked it! Highly recommend reading all others first, even the short stories (1.5 & 2.5). ...more

Cute addition to the series. My complaint is the amount of time they spent in bed (granted nice, hot scenes) while in a time crunch from keeping people from making vampires go crazy. Besides that i enjoyed reading it.

This was the first BITING book that I read...and when I was done, I bought the rest of them.

Only one complaint...we didn't hear anything about HIM in the other books...and I surely wanted to know MORE.

This was a lot of fun...would love to see MORE of them!

It was too short. Too much unanswered, kind of leaves you waiting for more, except you're not sure exactly what that "more" is. In the author's defense, I probably should have read the others in the series first. All in all though, it was an enjoyable read.
