Our Alternate Ending

Rate this book
She was the hot mess who stumbled through his door.
He was the one who gave her a chance.

When Elle Callihan finds herself on the twenty-sixth floor of the country’s top publishing firm after putting her dreams on hold for five years, she's not about to allow the opportunity to slip through her fingers.

There’s just one problem.

Her new, humorless, this-needs-to-be-done-right-now, jerk of a boss makes her working life a living hell.

With the minutes on his own clock ticking, CEO and certified workaholic, Owen Caldwell, has no time for anything. Not relationships. Not life. And certainly not the connection that simmers between himself and his new assistant.

As the pair work together, their undeniable attraction draws them closer, bringing a realization that sometimes life and the people in it are worth slowing down for. But when Elle is presented with a plot twist she never saw coming, she quickly learns that crafting her own story may be much harder than she initially thought.

Faced with a difficult decision, she has two choices: write the truth or deliver an alternate ending she knows they both deserve.

This story was so touching. I'm a sucker for romance and this one is so sweet! I laughed, cried, and everything in between! Owen has been dealt a rough hand but I was so moved by his story!

This book is told from both Elle's and Owen's perspective, and I loved reading about them both. Elle was so strong and composed and Owen was so caring and brave. I absolutely loved Owen and thought it was great how Elle stuck by him through everything.

"Owen Caldwell was intimidating. Not in the way he carried himself, but in the way he stripped me bare, exposed my desires, and tasted my fears…all in a single momentary glance."

"And, yes. Owen Caldwell was going to destroy me. He was going to break me apart until I was nothing but a million shattered pieces. And I was going to let him."

Their story brings hope and encouragement. It’s crushingly emotional with a very real subject matter that affects so many. Owen and Elle’s love story is beautiful and the epilogue will bring you to tears.

In short:
Hero 5/5 | Heroine 5/5 | Plot (Point, Originality) 5/5 | Writing Style 4/5 | Steam 3/5 | Romance 5/5 | Angst-Suspense 4/5 | Darkness 3/5 | Humor 2/5 | Secondary Characters 4/5 | Drama-Conflict 5/5 | Mystery 0/5 | Twists 5/5 | Pace Steady | Action 3/5

Just a few pages into this book, and I was invested. Owen was such a jerk, and I had to know why. Though I suspected (and correctly so) what his back story was, it wasn't any less impactful when it was revealed. Elle truly was a hot mess, but a breath of fresh air. She was what Owen needed, yet he fought it every step of the way. She worked her way past his defenses and they both learned it is okay to live and love. I love an asshole hero with a heart of gold and a heroine who is unapologetically herself. I didn't love the ending, yet I'm happy it ended that way (if that makes any sense).

I am between 2 stars and 3 stars on this book. This is my first book by Miss Fox. I read many good review in Goodreads and the audio book available.

First few chapters are very promising. A young naive beautiful Elle in desperate needs to land a position at her dream job. Her interview is a disaster. Owen, her future boss is over bearing and workaholic. I thought this book is going to be a slow burn romance. But to my disappointment this book is slow. The spark, the flow of the story feels to be forced. The insta love is rigid and dry. And the rest of the story is bland. I do not feel any that tingle anticipating feeling. I feel bored and anxious to finish this book.

The good part is the story takes place in publishing industry and I think Miss Fox is a book addict. There are many references of romantic quotes being mention on this book. And as a book addict myself I appreciate it and therefore I give it 3 stars. And Miss Fox capture that 'butterfly in stomach' about books.

"My body melded right into her softness, like two puzzle pieces made for a perfect fit."

Our Alternate Ending was my blind date for March and in no universe I would have wanted to miss out on this one. Katie Fox is new to me and the chance I would have missed this beauty is pretty high. So I got more than lucky with my blind date.

"I want to know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of extraordinary."

This book touched parts of my soul and heart that are usually very well guarded. It pierced right trough my armor and hit its mark. Our Alternate Ending is an emotional roller-coaster par excellence I wasn't prepared for. Not even close.
Katie has a wonderful way to bring her characters to live, they felt so raw and real that I almost thought they were part of my real life.

"My feet carried me toward her as if she were the other half of my magnet, the polar opposite in need of its charge."

Elle's and Owen's story is intense and I'm not sure if I can find the right words to write this review to do this story any justice. And I don't trust myself to not write anything that will spoil the story for you. My best recommendation I can give is: GO IN BLIND! Don't read any reviews. If you are interested because of the blurb and the cover and maybe because of (hopefully all the rightly deserved high ratings), trust your gut and dive in without catching any spoilers.

"It wasn't liking her that scared me. It was falling in love with her that did."

Our Alternate Ending tells us a wonderful journey of two people clearly meant to be and how they fell in love with each other. How they make the life of each other brighter just with being there. If two people are clearly made for each other, it's Elle and Owen. She's his angel and he's her white knight meeting right on time when there is no greater need for the other.

"Want by definition, was to have a desire to possess or to do. And fuck me, I wanted to do. I wanted to possess. Every. Single. Beautiful. Inch."

Let alone thinking and writing about their beautiful and true love make my eyes water. It starts out slowly, with funny banter and a chemistry of the charts. It was great watching them falling for each other and trying to deny it at the same time. Until ... until they both realize there is more to the harmless flirting. So much more, much deeper and both are afraid admitting it. Both for totally different reasons and one more than the other.

"I don't want you to remember me as the man who broke your heart but rather the man who gave it a reason to beat."

I totally see where Owen is coming from, closing off on all people who love him. I understand why he denies himself his own luck at first. Therefore it's great to see when he starts to open up, letting Elle in his life and in his heart. He's such a great guy that deserves all the love Elle has to give.

"We were two lovers, defeated and broken - two people destroyed by one harrowing truth."

Elle is wonderful and strong. Aiming high with her goals and dreams without letting down the people she loves most. Putting others first and her own dreams second, because she cares more than a soul should be able to bear. Owen sees right through her facade and pushes her boundaries so the starts to see the incredible woman she is, that all others already see in her.

"He had become my home, my solace, the missing piece of myself I didn't even realize I'd been missing."

Like every good romance novel there has to be a point where your heart breaks. And mine shattered in million pieces. It was clearly hard for me to read through those pages without crying too much. If you come to this point in this Elle's and Owen's story you know why you desperately want an alternate ending for them. The heartache cuts deep and leaves you bleeding until the end.
But reading the Note From The Author was what finally broke my resolve. My body was left with a combination of goose bumps and tears.

"I can't give you forever, but I can give you right now. I can love you with all of me until I can't, and even then, I'll still love you because a love like this is one that doesn't falter; it's eternal; it's infinite."

I put my favorite quotes out of the book in this review. And there were so many more. But I couldn't take them as they would have been spoiler to the story. Just let me tell you, that Elle's and Owen's words, thoughts and feelings for each other are incredible. Katie did a wonderful job describing them with her words.

I can't thank Katie enough for giving us Our Alternate Ending. Highly recommended!

100 Stars..... Utterly emotionally drained and spent right now in the BEST way possible!!!!

OMFG, so sorry for adding that f in there BUT OMFG!!!!!! This book, these characters Elle and Owen, OMFG:)

The writing was beyond superb, the storyline was incredible and beautiful and oh so heartbreaking, the characters were so "alive" I mean I felt like I was right there living this story out with them!!!!

This book.....just magnificent, perfectly written and perfectly paced. An absolute literary masterpiece. I am not gonna lie, I bawled my eyes out, I mean full out sobbing that I couldn't even see...it was one of THE most emotional books I have ever read! Thanks, wink, wink, to Olga my GR friend, I was able to emotionally dive right into this story:) I owe her BIGTIME, wink, wink!

I have never read anything by this author but let me tell you she is now in my top 3 like forever!!!! This story isn't a story one will EVER forget.

Elle and Owen, holy hell, I WANT an Owen, everyone NEEDS an Owen, this man, this beautiful, achingly gorgeous man, he was EVERYTHING I want to read about and more with my male leads. Elle, was equally beautiful inside and out. Together they were magical, I mean talk about a unicorn romance story, they just had the right amount of everything and the slow burn, the oh so deliciously slow build-up had me reading so damned fast that I had to keep going back to re-read, lol. I was literally on the edge of my seat, I mean holding my breath so afraid of the next page but yet couldn't;t get to it fast enough. The story was just so emotional, so intense and the connection between these two was like a breath of fresh air. They were made for each other, and the ending, OMFG THAT ending...........P E R F E C T!!!!!!! Perfect in every single way possible, my heart was so broken at one point that I thought there was no way I would ever get it back to whole again but this author did the most amazing writing in the most amazing way that totally healed my shattered heart.

Absolutely Fucking Brilliant!!!!! There are not enough words, I am still so emotional but please do yourself a favor...if you love a great romance, a true to the heart and soul of a die hard romance reader then please READ this book!!!!!!!

Oh my, this book, seriously. All.the.feels. I laughed, I cried, I swooned. Owen and Elle's story was so breathtakingly beautiful. This was my first read by Katie Fox and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

At the very least, there are about a quarter of a million words in the English language. I want one of them from you.

Elle is a hot mess with big dreams that seem too far out of reach. She loves writing and literature. Owen is her new, jerk of a boss. But is he really? Things aren't always what they seem. Owen has a secret and he refuses to let himself get close to Elle thinking it's in her best interest. {I may or may not have screamed at Owen at one point, threatening to throw my Kindle across the room but I digress...}

I enjoyed the slow build up of their relationship, no insta-love here! I was pulling for them the whole time, just waiting for them to cave fully to their attraction for each other.

"I realized that she'd entered my life for a reason. She was an angel in disguise, here to save me with her smiles and her laughter, with her selfless love."

Katie broke my heart with this one and then put it back together in such a beautiful way ❤

I’ve started so many reviews for this book and then deleted them again, knowing that no words I write will ever be able to do justice to this phenomenal story.

Story isn’t really the right word, though. As I read, I was transported into a living, breathing world that Fox created with the power of her words. It’s rare to find an author whose prose transports you so easily from the real world into the one they’ve laid out for you. I never wanted to put it down. I ate, slept and breathed Owen and Elle’s story from the moment I opened the book to the sigh I let out when I turned the last page.

Some stories stay with you for a day, others for weeks or months. This story will, I’m certain, stay with me forever.

It’s a story about love overcoming all odds, of never giving up even when everything is stacked against you. Of fighting until all your fight is gone, and then getting up and fighting some more. It’s a story about the healing power of the deepest kinds of love, both romantic and not, and how they can bring us out of the darkness and back into the light, even when we think all hope is lost.

It made me laugh. It made me cry. It made me want to hurl my kindle at the wall, and it made me want to cuddle it close. When I turned the final page to find the words had stopped, I was left feeling both delighted at the perfection of the ending, and sad that I had to leave the story behind before I was emotionally ready to.

This was my first solo read by Katie Fox, but I can categorically state that it won’t be my last. I look forward to devouring more of her words soon!

“At the very least, there are about a quarter of a million words in the English language.” This is the one that I choose to describe this book ... Riviting. I was engrossed in every page of this story. From the happy, through the sad, to the sexy, Owen and Elle took me on an emotional journey that filled my heart with nothing but love.

"He was the constant whisper in my heart that made me believe in myself."

I adored Katie's writing before I read this book—she knows that. I know her prose inside out; I know her tone and I know how well she portrays emotion. I can sometimes predict how she will have a scene play out because I'm already in tune with her and the way she writes. So when I tell you that you should read this story for her writing alone, you really should trust me on that, because I believe I am the expert when it comes to all things Katie Fox. I can guarantee with 100% certainty that you will fall in love with her characters and the way she draws you in with her choice of words. I can guarantee this because she always does a beautiful job, without fail. Katie Fox is an incredible writer, so even if romance isn't your thing, you need to pick up this book because she is a wonderful story-teller, regardless of the story.

However, you should also pick it up because she has seriously outdone herself with this one. She has poured her heart and soul into Owen and Elle and breathed life into them in such a raw and believable way. She has created a world for them to live in that is full of heartache, tears, laughter and joy, and with every turn of the page, you will become more and more wrapped up in their journey together because of the way Katie is able to weave and mould and shape the story so that you feel as though you are walking alongside the pair of them, experiencing every moment with them.

Her ability to build rounded, full and complex characters is second to none, and Owen and Elle are two of the most well written you will ever meet. You will ache for them when they are hurting, and you will burn with need when they are in the throes of passion—and trust me, there is passion. When they are faced with difficult decisions to make because their decisions will affect everyone around them, you will feel the need to climb into their situation and coach them down the right path.

The plot itself is so unique, so thought provoking and so wonderfully real. It will leave you contemplating life, how you live it and how you treat and interact with the people around you.

This isn't just a story; it’s a life lesson. It's a transparent window to humanity. It will challenge your thinking and it will leave you fighting to make your own life the best it can be.

And when you finally reach the end, you will find it difficult to believe that what you have just read wasn't real life. It's THAT good.

I'm so proud of you, Fox. So bloody proud.

"The man who had given me a chance had turned out to be the same person who had given me everything. He was fighting harder for my dreams than I was, and I owed it to him to make an effort to catch them."

There is roughly about a quarter of a million words in the English language but somehow there still isn’t enough words to express how much I loved this book!! See what I did there? Well you probably won’t understand until you read it, and reading this is a must! Katie’s writing is exceptional. I love the way the words flow through the story and the way each word demands your attention, holding you captive until you are at the end of the book. This book isn’t like any other I have recently read and that’s what makes it so much better.

Elle and Owen are beautifully written, complex characters. Elle’s character is so sweet and incredibly strong! I really enjoyed her character throughout this book. Owen’s character is different to a lot of the heroes in romance novels I have recently read. He is such a sweet guy, even though he likes to hide it from others. I absolutely loved how he displayed his emotions, he didn’t hide them at all. Elle and Owen together is just beautiful. Their connection to each other is like no other. I really enjoyed reading both of their points of views throughout the novel.

Have you ever read a book that made you bawl your eyes out, made your nose run, and made you run out of tissues? This book did all that and more to me. I am still drying my tears now. I cried like a baby while reading this. So I am warning you now, make sure sure you have a new box of tissues ready to go before starting this story! This story is beautiful, it’s heart wrenching, it’s emotionally perfect. It shows us that love is a powerful emotion that can help you through even your darkest days, and there are just some things we can not go through alone. Although this book made me cry, it also made me smile and on occasion have a bit of a giggle. It had all the feels for me, and I absolutely loved it! And that ending....just wow! This story deserves more than a 5 star rating. It deserves all the stars in the sky! I suggest you all go grab a copy of this, settle in a nice comfy chair with a box of tissues and get lost in the world of Our Alternate Ending.

Oh my aching heart. I am not even sure where to begin. Katie Fox will have your emotions all over the place. Our Alternate Ending is such a beautifully written story and sends an even more beautiful message at the end of the day. To love with every breathe you have. To have the courage to keep fighting when the fight is gone. To have faith in a higher power and to not let fear stop you from living your life to the fullest every single day.

Owen and Elle met at a time when they both needed each other in one way or another. A botched interview turns into life changing events for all involved. Fate steps in and ultimately changes the course of two lives.

From page one I fell in love with Elle and her cute and quirky self. Bad luck seemed to follow her wherever she went but she didn’t let that deter her. She kept on trekking on. Her strength (whether she knew she had it or not), love for her family and courage were something I admired. Faced with an unimaginable situation, decisions had to be made and she could with cower in a corner and run from it or step up and run towards it full speed.

Owen is the arrogant brut you couldn’t help but also love. He frustrated me at times because he was such a puzzle. I kept trying to piece it together and when all the pieces finally came together I understood where he was coming from and I fell in love with him more.

Page, after page my heart was in shambles. I was laughing, I was smiling, I had tears in my eyes or I had tears pouring out of my eyes. At 5:30am I read the word “The End” and my heart soured from the emotions in the book and I felt like I could finally breathe again. Definitely have some tissues on hand. Our Alternate Ending is a must read. This is my first book that I’ve read by Katie Fox but will definitely not be my last. I am hooked.

I am going to leave you with one of the quotes that sat with me throughout reading Owen and Elle’s story....

“The road to our dreams is filled with obstacles, sweetheart. And that’s all he is: an obstacle. They all serve their purpose, and usually it’s not until we’ve reached our final destination do we learn if they were placed in our path to make us stronger or set us back.”

4.5 Hope Stars

It felt like I held my breath through some of the angst in this story. I was both weary, and teary at times. But, I loved Owen and Elle...just loved their individual characters, and them as a couple. Their chemistry, and love jumped off the pages of this story.

Owen was a good guy, in a really crappy situation. Giving and selfless, even when he thought he wasn’t. Sometimes sparing others is overrated, we need the love of others to get us through our toughest times.

“It’s much better to do good in a way that no one knows anything about”
-Leo Tolstoy

“If there is anything I’ve done right in my life, Elle, it is losing my heart to you”

Poor Elle, and the whiplash Owen, gave her without really meaning to. The bravery it took on both their parts to start a relationship...

“I’m scared of never being as happy as I am right now. I’m scared of life after you.”

The last chapter and epilogue...LOVED! And thank God, for an alternate ending!

“At the very least, there are about a quarter million words in the English language. I want one of them from you.” 😍

4 Jaw Drop stars on Goodreads

This was my first read from Katie and a friend pointed me in her direction. From the first page I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. There is a giant surprise dropped on us about three quarters of the way in but if I’m being honest I saw it coming. I didn’t however see the end coming and I just loved it.

“At the very least, there are about a quarter million words in the English language. I want one of them from you. I don’t want you to think about your answer. I just want the first word that enters your mind. Okay?”

Owen is this big time CEO of a publishing house and he’s looking to hire someone to take the work load from him. He

This was a feel all book for me. There where times I was laughing my ass off and then there where times I was bawling like a baby. Highly recommend reading his book and I look forward to checking out more of Katie’s books.

“And, yes. Owen Caldwell was going to destroy me. He was going to break me apart until I was nothing but a million shattered pieces. And I was going to let him.”>/b>

Thank you. It's been a long time since I have read a book that made me cry. I didn't want to finish the book because I knew the ending was going to be catastrophic and heart wrenching knowing that it would open the flood gates and make me a blubbering mess. Fortunately I couldn't put the book down and was ecstatic that the ending was a happy one.

Have you ever read a book that's left you completely and utterly speechless. I mean a mind blowing, heart pounding, tear jerking, emotion producing on all ends of the spectrum, book that has you reevaluating and being so much more grateful for everything you have in your life. A book so incredible that I can't even bring myself to message the author before writing this out loud for everyone to see.
You see, Katie Fox, you've truly put me through the ringer and guess what?

“At the very least, there are about a quarter million words in the English language. I want one of them from you. I don’t want you to think about your answer. I just want the first word that enters your mind. Okay?”

Stunning.

When it releases, I give it my highest recommendation for you all to pick up this damn beautiful book and live it (yes, I meant live not love but you can also do that too.) I can’t give it enough praise, and although, as Owen says, at the very least there are about a quarter million words in the English language, I can’t come up with enough for how utterly fantastic this story is.

Katie has become a unicorn author for me, one I want to read everything she ever writes without an inch of coercion. She breathes life into words that brand themselves onto your soul.

Seriously, read the book!

This book was a mix of office romance, a slow burn romance and a definite angsty af one and I freaking loved it!!
“You’d be surprised how many girls label a boy with a book as a nerd.” “See, that’s the difference between a girl and a woman. A woman would find it hot. Totally hot. I’m talking turn-on hot.” The grip he had on me tightened, and his irises darkened a few shades. His gaze flicked down to my lips where it remained. “Guess I should get back to reading then.”

Owen and Elle meet when she goes to a job interview to be his Assistant Editor and while her interview is a complete disaster, Owen sees something in her that he can't just let go. And that's how he finds his new assistant. And bit by bit, as they work together, he finds out that that's not all he found in Elle. He found in her the female version of himself, a women who can keep up with him and will put him in his place, the woman who will inspire him and give him life.

I didn’t know anything anymore. When she was around, all my thoughts belonged to her. She had entered my life, and the only thing my mind focused on was the way she made me feel. What are you doing to me, Elle? Why do I want you in the worst fucking way?

The attraction they felt towards each other when they first met is always present and working so closely together makes it easy for feelings to develop but Owen doesn't want to act on those feelings because he can't give Elle what she wants, a real relationship. However, their feelings grow more and more and it becomes harder to push her away, specially when they are no longer just boss/employee but have built a kind of friendship that only intensifies their feelings for one another.

“Everything will be fine. We will make it to L.A. in one piece. I promise.” I stared at her. She was wrong. There was no way I was making it to L.A. in one piece because in the last five seconds I’d already felt less whole than I’d ever been. In one simple move—one reassuring gesture—Elle Callihan had unknowingly stolen a piece of me, a piece I wasn't sure I even wanted back.

The more they learn about each other, the more they want each other but Owen keeps on with pushing her away, and when it becomes too much and he sees that either way their relationship plays out, he's gonna hurt her, he finally spills his secret. It might not be easy for either of them but at least they'll be together.

“If there is anything I’ve done right in my life, Elle, it is losing my heart to you.”

I was so pleasantly surprised with the end of this book. I was so not expecting it but it made me so damn happy omg. I had read some reviews and saw that this was gonna be a really angsty heartbreaking book so once I started reading and learned Owen's secret, I thought I knew how this book was gonna end but I didn't and I'm so glad I was wrong. I got my HEA *claps hands very excitedly*, THEY GOT THEIR HEA!!
But don't think you're safe, you'll still probably cry because these two's story is so damn angsty and the slow burn part will have you turning pages and not wanting to stop until you know if they end up together or not and then after the reveal (you learn before she does, or if you're like me.. you'll guess the very moment he mentions something in the first chapters) you'll want to know how their story will end.

There was a reason why we’re told to live every moment as if it’s our last. At any given second, it could be. Life was short. Time was invaluable. We didn’t get to press pause or rewind. All we could do was live our life to the best of our ability and hope that when it’s over it held meaning.

OhMyGoodness. This book blew me away. It made me feel ALL the feels!!!
Ive started this review a couple of times now, but kept deleting my words. I feel like no matter what i write, its not going to do this story justice, BUT, im going to give it a try.
I had never read any books by Katie Fox before, so when we connected on IG and she asked would I like to read it, I jumped at the chance. I absolutely love discovering “new to me”authors, and the blurb really had me intrigued. Im not one for giving away spoilers in my reviews, and I encourage you to go into this one blind, because any information could completely ruin how special this story is.
To say that Owen and Elles story is an emotional rollercoaster, would be a massive understatement. This book broke me, then put me back together again. Their relationship was EVERYTHING! They had a genuine connection right from the start, and it was believeable! Elle is so strong and i felt like i could relate to her, like i really wanted to be her friend. She really was the epitome of my ideal book heroine.
Owen. *sighs* Beautiful, tortured, Owen. I defy you not to fall in love with this man. Im not gonna lie, there were moments where i actually wanted to punch him in the face, really hard, but i forgave him, because deep down, i understood where he was coming from. The way he loved and protected Elle was just perfect.
Katie Fox is a talented author. She has written a heart-wrenchingly beautiful story of love, second chances and hope. I can quite confidently say that i will be reading more of her books in the future.

I never feel like I can do justice to such amazing books within a certain amount of words, but I’m going to try.

Katie held my heart in the palm of her hand, squeezed it a little, shattered it, and most importantly put it back together again.

This story is one of epic proportions that doesn’t disappoint at any turn.

I loved how an author wrote a writer, the way she would feel, her emotions, the struggles. It resonated me in a way nothing else ever has.

“Notes and plot ideas whispered at me, begging me to put pen to paper and start writing. Characters screamed to have their stories told, and my heart was torn between doing what I wanted and doing what felt right.”

I mean that says it all right there!

And then Owen. My sweet, sweet, soft asshole,
Owen. I don’t even know where to start with him. Broody, asshole, soft, sweet, an all round sexy ass guy. And then three more words: HE IS MINE.

However, I’m willing to share him with you for the duration it takes for you to read this book.

If you read one book this year, let it be this one! You won’t regret it and will soak up each beautiful, heart breaking, word and never forget this story.

You’re welcome.

FIVE “there is not enough words in the English language to describe my love for this book” STARS

Wow. I was not at all prepared for the emotional rollercoaster Ms. Fox took me on with this story.

Where do I begin?!?!

description

The story starts off with Elle, and she is exactly as the blurb describes: a hot mess. She’s on her way to what is supposed to be a life changing interview but everything that can go wrong—does. She’s running late, her hair is wet, she breaks her heel… all before taking a hot coffee bath.

Yep. You read it. This woman has the worst case of bad luck.

description

Alas, she pulls her big girl panties on and decides to risk her dignity for what seems to be her biggest opportunity yet.

What she doesn’t expect is Owen Caldwell.

Despite the fact that Elle looks as though she crawled out of a dumpster, Owen sees past her outwardly appearance and gives her a chance.

What turns into a simple boss/employee relationship grows into so much more. The attraction between these two is apparent from the first time they lay eyes on each other, and the way Fox ignites the pages with their intense chemistry is amazing.

“Owen Caldwell was intimidating. Not in the way he carried himself, but in the way he stripped me bare, exposed my desires, and tasted my fears… all in a single momentary glance.”

But love and life is never simple, is it?

Elle has her own world of struggles, trying to stay true to herself and her dreams while also helping the people that mean the most to her in life, even if that means sacrificing her own happiness.

Owen on the other hand is guarded, a total jerk on the surface, and is the master at shutting people out. The man’s got a wall of bricks surrounding him and the last person he expects to break through them is his new assistant.

But she does. And when she does, oh how do they fall.

“In one simple move—one reassuring gesture—Elle Callihan had unknowingly stolen a piece of me, a piece I wasn't sure I even wanted back.”

But we wouldn’t have a book without a climax, right?

Our Alternate Ending has a plot twist I didn’t see coming. I had a feeling something big was going to happen, but not to the extent in which Fox delivers.

And man, did it break me. Absolutely freaking break me.

“Owen Caldwell was going to destroy me. He was going to break me apart until I was nothing but a million shattered pieces. And I was going to let him.”

*Cue: Big Fat Ugly Cry*

description

Can I just say, I LOVED Elle. She is probably one of my favorite heroines I’ve read lately. She is so perfectly human. She has insecurities and she is vulnerable just like the rest of us, but I love her selflessness and how she pulls through for our Hero when he needs her the most.

And Owen. He has made it to the top of my book boyfriend list.

“At the very least, there are about a quarter of a million words in the English language. I want one of them from you. I don’t want you to think about your answer. I just want the first word that enters your mind. Okay?”

Beautiful.

There are a hundred other words I could probably use to describe this book, but I’ll stick with that one. This book is just everything. It’s a heart-stoppingly romantic read that proves love has the power to conquer all of life’s challenges, no matter how hopeless reality seems. I dare you to read this book and not cry, to not feel like your heart has been yanked from your chest, only for it to be returned, bursting full of love and hope.

Kudos, Ms. Fox for writing such a captivating, emotional read. This is the first book I’ve read by you but it but certainly won’t be my last.

This is the first book I have had the opportunity to read by Katie Fox and boy was it one that tugged at my heart. It is not only incredibly well written and engaging, but it felt so real. I literally felt like I was watching friends as they experienced life and what it had thrown at them. The characters were awesome! So well written and the author's storytelling skills are on point. I think I have a bit of a book hangover after this one.

Elle Callihan is not living the life she has dreamed of having, nor the life that she has led her family to believe she lives. Working for the local public library, she dreams of one day being the editor at a publishing house. In her downtime, she writes. Weaving stories that only her eyes see. She doesn't have enough faith in herself to push through her fear and try to publish her work. When the opportunity arises to interview for an assistant editor position at a local publishing firm, Elle decides to take the leap and prove that even though her resume may be a little bleak, she has what it takes to do the job and do it well. When the morning of her interview begins with disaster, Elle must dig deep to overcome the mess that has taken over her life and push forward.

Elle's character is amazing. She is so much stronger than she gives herself credit for. She is determined to prove that she has what it takes to succeed, even if she has a lot to learn. She loves her family and will do anything to help them and I mean literally anything. Their happiness means more to her than her own. She is an amazing friend and makes sure to find time in her crazy busy schedule for Drew. He keeps her grounded and his guidance helps her stay along a straight path.

Owen Caldwell is living the life that most people would dream of having. More money than he knows what to do with, he sits at the helm of his families publishing business. The last several months have been harder than most. He keeps to himself and doesn't let anyone in. His private life is just that, private. At the suggestion of his personal assistant and dearest friend Millie, he sets out to hire an editorial assistant to help lighten his load. When Elle Callihan walks through his office doors, he can't help but wonder what has happened to the hot mess before him. Not only is she underqualified, but she looks like the world has forgotten about her. But, he can't help but feel drawn to the blue-eyed beauty and decides to take a chance on her. Offering her the position, he has to wonder if he really is doing the right thing.

From the first time that these two characters meet, I could just feel the connection between them. Even though they try denying that it is there, they eventually give in to the tension that swarms between them. You could literally cut it with a knife. They both have so many secrets and Owen is so worried about hurting Elle, that he pushes her away on more than one occasion. What begins as a working relationship and friendship, slowly becomes something more. But when secrets are revealed will the damage they cause be more than either of them can bear? Will Owen and Elle get their HEA?

There were a few times while reading this book that I wanted to put it down and not go any further because I wasn't sure my heart could take much more. Our Alternate Ending is such an awesome, engaging, heart-aching read. Owen and Elle are so good together and so well written. My heart and head feel like they have run a marathon after reading this book. I have not read a lot of books so far this year, but this is by far my favorite one so far and is one that will stay with me for a long time to come.

WOW just wow

I am at a loss for words right now....this book was just that damn good!!

Owen comes off as an jerk plain and simple, but oh my is that just pain wrong 100% wrong.

Ellie is a sweet girl just trying to find her way. She has put her dreams on hold for her family.

When Ellie shows up for her interview with Owen she looks like a hot mess, broken heel, coffee stained shirt, a hot mess of wet freshly washed hair! Lol she was even almost late to boot!

I'm not going to give the plot away, so instead I'll do my best to wow you like I was by this story.

Owen and Ellie have this insane attraction, both have a passion for reading and all things related. There relationship start out as office/ employee and eventually develop into so much more.

They have so much on both their plates, her family and his grief of not allowing his in. He is truly a great man.

I do have to say Owen should have fired the one jerk that worked for him, sorry but if you bash your boss to his face that is just wrong!! it made me so mad cause you can tell Owen is going through something at this point, we just don't know what.

As these two go through the trials and rough patches Owen finally realizes that maybe just maybe he doesn't have to give up, that he doesn't have to just waste away. This is the best point in the book, when he decided too FIGHT!! He woke up and realized love was worth fighting for. And fight he did!! He got over being stubborn and opened himself up.

Ellie & Owen had one hell of a ride in this book, they have ups and they have downs....some very MAJOR downs. But Ellie being the upbeat strong person she is holds on.

I'll be honest and for a while I didn't think they'd end up together, BUT I'm so glad they figured it out. These two made me cry my eyes out & fight to read through the tears and smudging of my reading glasses cause the story was Just. That. Good!!

Maybe I'm not getting this right, but there has only been one other book that was similar in plot and up until this point it was the only book that stuck with me. That was until I read this book, this will officially be the 2nd book that will stick with me for a long time !!

You need to read this book, it is a must. It will make you cry, ugly cry but it's oh so worth it!!

This is the first book I read by Katie Fox, but after this I will surely check other works of her because "Our Alternate Ending" may look like the usual boss-employee romance after reading the blurb, but it is more than that.

Elle Callihan is a determined woman. She has a job, but she has other dreams in mind and they could turn into reality if her interview at Caldwell Publishing goes well.

Owen Caldwell is the intriguing CEO of Caldwell Publishing. He is a successful man and he knows what he wants, and it isn't Elle.

Elle and Owen meet by chance and that encounter is going to change their whole lives permanently. Elle is bright, creative, and she is good at her job despite she hasn't got the required experience. Owen is amazed and charmed by her personality, and in any other case of office romance we'd see him or her making a move and claiming territory, but it doesn't happen here.

"Our Alternate Ending" is filled with a lot of angst and I liked that the story Katie Fox told us had a normal pace. You won't see the main characters jump on each other after a few chapters, but you will see them actually develop their bond along the way until the moment for them to open up arrives. We have both POVs but the author is good at keeping the reader in the dark during some moments and we don't read about what one or the other is doing to create a halo of mystery. This feeling stays for the whole book because you ask yourself questions about why something happens until you have your truth.

The title describes the book well: both Elle and Owen are faced with choices that they can't undo because those choices aren't theirs to decide, and we see how they react when life puts itself between their happiness.

Elle and Owen are characters you can relate to. She is a woman who doesn't see how much she's great at doing what she likes and he is a man with a heart of gold with fragilities. They're equal human beings and they help each other overcome their fears and their worries.

OML, YOU GUYS. Let me tell you something, this book was absolutely heartbreakingly beautiful.

But aaah is it just me or does anyone else not like the couple on the cover? Ha. Sorry, I love the typewriter, but ughhh the people bother me lol.

ANYWAYS. Okay, where to be begin? How about with the fact that I've never read anything by this author before this book, and that is a serious tragedy for me and anyone else who has not had the pleasure of reading this lady's words.

I know people have this misconception that romance novels are bland and simple, but damn, this book is filled with beautiful prose, I actually learned how to use the highlight button on my kindle for the first time because I was actually shook enough that I needed to remember dialogue and metaphors and declarations of love.

Here's one that I highlighted that I fell in love with:

"It was a kiss that said "I can't give you forever, but I can give you right now. I can love you will all of me until I can't, and even then, I'll still love you because a love like this is one that doesn't falter; it's eternal. It's infinite."

SHOOK.

And okay, I picked this up thinking it was some sort of office romcom with a hot boss, hate to love, and books. Can't forget the books:) but dammmmmmnnnn I didn't know I signed up for angst! When I say I went into this blind, I seriously mean I went into this not knowing anything except for the fact that I love when the love interest is named Owen (lmao, I have a weird name fetish where I instantly fall in love with Owen's and Theo's and Trevor's immediately. Not sure what it really means :P)

Anywhoooo, you guys should get yourself acquainted with this author and this book asap! It made me laugh, but also wounded my heart! I won't tell you why because you have to experience that for yourself (i know, i'm a tease;))

Elle’s a hot mess, but she has a dream. Now, all she needs is a chance. When she shows up to an interview with a broken heel, coffee covered blouse and wet hair, Owen Caldwell sends her packing. But he can’t get her out of his head.

When she runs into Owen Caldwell while working at the public library she never expects for him to offer her a job. While her pride says to tell him no, Elle can’t pass up the chance to work for one of the country’s top publishing companies. Unfortunately, he’s kind of a jerk of a boss.

Owen has his own reasons for not forming attachments and focussing on work. He sees something in Elle, however, that has him rethinking his priorities and wishing for things he can never have, including her. Elle is a bright light that draws others to her and her passion for the written word is evident. It’s why Owen feels he needs to push her so hard . . . he knows she can have her dreams.

What they didn’t expect was to fall in love . . . and it a true slow burn of a relationship that can’t be denied as their passion soars incredibly hot. Some relationships, however, really are not meant to be and not everyone can have the happy ending they want. When Owen shares with Elle the plot twist she could have never seen coming she needs to make the hardest decision of her life. She can either live life to the fullest now, knowing there will be pain later or walk away full of regret. It’s up to her to write their ending.

First, I fell in love with Elle. I love that she is passionate about books and writing and can pull others in by her exuberance. I adore that while she tries to have it together she is a hot mess. I love how she leans on her bestie for stability and advice and that she always puts her family and those she cares about first in her life. She’s loving and supportive and all around awesome.

Owen is heartbreaking. How we first see him is not his true self, but he has been dealt a raw deal and is simply trying to cope with his new reality. By cutting off relationships and emotions, he really feels he is protecting those he cares about most. When Elle breezes into his life, she makes him want to start living life to the fullest extent that he can and it’s beautiful and heartbreaking to watch.

This book was quite possibly the most emotional book I have ever read. I had ugly tears multiple times and my throat kept getting clogged up. It’s completely heartbreaking. It’s also such an amazingly beautiful story that I know it will stay with for for awhile and made every tear worth it! I really cannot say enough about this story. 5 Stars!

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL ! Owen and Elle' s story will rip your heart open and then fill it piece by piece.

"It wasn't liking her that scared me. It was falling in love with her that did."

From the moment you start reading you're sucked in. Elle is so real, she's everyone who's ever had a dream. Owen may have come off as a jerk at first but you can sense that we're missing a part to him.

I love how It's a slow, all consuming type of love. These characters bring so much hope to your lives. But you know that somethings coming and you try to prepare but when all truths surface your heart will break and break.

"We were two lovers, defeated and broken-two people destroyed by one harrowing truth. "

Talk about an emotional rollercoaster! I promise that you will go through every emotion in the time you read this story. There's joy, anger, pain, fear, love, hope. And I can tell you by the end your heart will be so full. Owen and Elle' s story will stay with you for a long time. It's so real and honest . To simply call this a story is an understatement though because it's so much more, it's life.

"At the very least...there are about a quarter of a million words in the English language--"

Thank you Katie Fox for giving us Our Alternate Ending. It was absolutely one of my favorite reads.

There are hardly words to describe the emotions that this book made me feel while reading it. This book was one that made me feel emotionally attached to each of the characters. They had this perfect chemistry between them. Even when they tried to deny that there was something between them. Owen was ready to give up and not fight for his life. That is until he finally allows himself to really love Elle. This is a story that will touch your heart and make you believe that love can heal. You will laugh, you will smile, and you will cry. I want a love like Owen and Elle have. Owen says it right to Elle:
"I can't give you forever, but I can give you right now. I can love you right now. I can love you with all of me until I can't, and even then, I'll still love you because a love like this is one that doesn't falter; it's eternal; it's infinite."
I knew that just like most romances that there is an HEA, I just didn't know how this HEA was going to be. And no matter how many times I found myself fighting back tears while reading this one, I just couldn't put this one down. And having this one being duel POV made it so that as a reader I was able to see things through both sets of eyes. And I am glad to say that this was an emotional rollercoaster that was worth the ride.
