Blake A. Hoena grew up in central Wisconsin, where, in his youth, he wrote stories about robots conquering the Moon and trolls lumbering around in the woods behind his parents house, and the fact that the trolls were hunting for little boys had nothing to do with Blake’s pesky brothers. Later, he moved to Minnesota to pursue a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Since graduating, Blake has written more than thirty books for children, including retellings of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and the Perseus and Medusa myth. Most recently, he’s working on a series of graphic novels about two space alien brothers, Eek and Ack, who are determined to conquer our big blue home.
What the library is all about is essential to know. The author of the book (A visit to the library) has described it all. A library is a busy place because many people visit it. The library is filled with shelves and each shelf has many books. Visitors do research. They use computers and books of different authors for the information they need. Those who visit the library sit quietly because people study and they need to concentrate. The librarians are trained. They help children and adults to find the right book. Some librarians read books to children.
Before I visit the library with the children, I will read this book to them, so they have a good knowledge of the place we are visiting. Although there may be a media center in the school, it is essential that the children be introduced a library outside the school, so that they become familiar with reading outside school.
This is an informative book about visiting the library. It gives kids an overview about what you can do at the library and how it is ran. The book is very organized. There is a table of contents, glossary, and other helpful information. This would be perfect to read to younger kids who are learning about the library.
