My favorite devotional of all time! I love to start my morning off to a great day with this short, direct and to the point devotion feeding myself enough of godly wisdom to cause deep meditation throughout the day. This devotional is packed full scripture without stepping out of the context of their original meaning. This devotional is not for the religious who enjoy the fluff of a feel me good gospel, but for a follower of Christ who takes the surrendering of heart, mind, and soul to the will of God by, in, and through Jesus seriously will find strength through this amazing devotional.
I have several books just like this one, and I love them all!! It's so nice to read these each day. There's one page dedicated to each day of the year. I have plenty of time to do my thing in the mornings but I know some of you are on a tight schedule each day and don't have time to spare. This book is perfectly suited for you, in that if need be, the day's excerpt can be read very quickly and you can move on if you don't have the time to sit and ponder what you've just read, sort through your thoughts, and pray like I do. Sometimes it gets really exciting and I wake up to find out that the reading for that day totally hits the spot and is aimed specifically towards something I'm struggling with at the moment or something major that is currently happening in my life. It doesn't happen every day, but it's definitely exciting when it does! If it doesn't though, either way, I still enjoy starting/ending my days with these devotionals. They are most certainly helping to improve and strengthen my once long lost relationship with God.
This would make a nice Christmas gift for the Christian on your list who would appreciate a daily devotional guide. The format of the book is that for each day of the year Blackaby presents a short passage of scripture (just a verse or two) followed by a discussion of that verse with heavy application to every day living. I’d say Blackaby hits the mark 98% of the time. There were some days where I thought, “yea, whatever” but most of the time I thought, “hm, good perspective. Worth thinking about.” Each entry is short enough that it is useful for a quick devotional each day. The down side of that each entry is so short there isn’t much depth to the discussion. Again, just a quick hit on a spiritual thought for the day. If that is your target this is a good book.
this was my devotional guide during the year that i took the bar exams and while waiting for the results and it has offered me deep insights. 4 stars only not because the authors were inept, but because of my often (if not sometimes) very low comprehending power. nevertheless, this devotional guide has been a great Quiet Time companion and has nourished me in my spiritual journey. i was so blessed i passed on my copy to my sister while she was reviewing for her board exams and while she was awaiting for the results too, so that she could also experience a similar spiritual journey that i had with this wonderful guide.
I read several daily devotionals this year, as well as read the entire bible using a chronological edition. Some days it was a little much to keep up with it all, but this was the devotional I read no matter how busy I was.
This little devotional has exclamation marks, hearts, underlined words/paragraphs, colored highlights, spontaneous prayers scribbled in the margins and more.
I will probably read it again in 2017 using a 'fresh' copy.
I’ve finished this book. i’ve read it in Ukrainian translation which was awful, sorry. I didn’t like the course. I think there are too many extremely arguable points of view and they can not be put like the only one possible. Looks like the author is very popular in his country but for me his experience wasn’t always useful in my country, in my society. to much bragging, not enough constructive stuff. nevertheless, I found some great ideas and thoughts so I don’t regret reading it. still, I think there plenty of better books and courses. 3 stars.
After doing The Experiencing God Bible study I was so impressed with Henry Blackaby and his heart for Christ that I bought this devotional praying it was just as good...and it was. On a daily basis Henry challenges Christian believers to follow Christ more closely and submit to Him. He doesn’t interject his own personal thoughts but rather uses Scripture to encourage and admonish believers. This is the devotional to buy if you want to be challenged to live for Christ on a day to basis.
Our leader in our Pathfinder group (an accountability group for both men and women, at Calvary Assembly of God church in Hampton, Virginia) chose this devotional a year ago. I hate found it to be life altering. Frequently, other group members have posted that day's reading on our Facebook page, sharing how that reading has impacted their heart. I highly recommend this devotional to anyone who desires to be within the Father's will.
A good devotional, but I must say, it doesn't compare to last year's I read -- Tim Keller and his wife's Song of Psalms. Mom and I read both and she agrees. Blackaby offers a verse a day with commentary, whereas Keller had segments of a psalm and offered rich perspectives on what it meant that I would've not considered otherwise. Excited to read his new Proverbs one in 2018!
The Christian walk is best described as John Bunyan in his famous allegory, The Pilgrims Progress. It is not easy, yet the hope and peace our faith gives us is priceless. Experiencing God Day by Day is a beautiful resource for the Christian pilgrim. Uplifting. Hope-filled. I love this daily treasure of readings!
I have read this devotional almost every year for almost 15 years. There is only one other that I like as well and it's also by this author. I highly recommend this as well as the other by this author. They are both uplifting, encouraging and thought provoking.
This was a game changer when I was experience a renewed growth in my Christian life...1999 or so. It really helped me to see God's hand in different areas. Love the album that was made to reflect it too, focusing on songs full of the Word.
Each day was thought provoking with sound, relevant biblical references. Some days were simply encouraging and other says encouraging you to look inward to make necessary changes in your life
This was the first-ever 365 daily devotional I read. It’s still my favorite, and the reason why I wanted to become a devotional writer myself. There is so much power in unpacking the Scriptures for someone else while giving them the space to process what the verse means in his or her own life!
This book was a gift and has been a constant reminder of God's love for me. The format allowed me to journal my thoughts and feelings throughout a year of ups and downs - and I can see God's work in my life. This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to draw closer to our Lord and Creator.
Excellent. Read it twice. The insightful devotionals are timely and timeless every time. I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to start the day with the right attitude. A jewel!
I found Blackaby’s frequent use of absolutes and superlatives to be extremely annoying. However he makes good points and doing this devotional with friends allowed me to finish it. But it won’t be something i return to again and again.
Every year I do a devotional and ask several close friends and family to do it with me. This year our whole church is going to do this together! So excited to see where God is going to take us in 2023!
The one and only devotional I have ever completed. My faith (I feel) grew exponentially while reading this devotional. I also happily recommend Knowing and Doing the Will of God.
