Do first impressions always last?

When veterinarian Brett Coulson and stable owner Samantha Hanson-Bishop meet, it’s hate at first sight. He thinks she’s a snobby, stuck-up bitch who wouldn’t know nice if it bit her on the backside. She thinks he’s a blundering, inexperienced little boy who shouldn’t be within fifty miles of her prized horses. But it doesn’t matter much—they’ll never have to see each other again. Or will they?

When fate throws them into the same room together at a charity fundraiser, the resentment between them quickly resurfaces. But mixed in with that resentment is something they both tried to deny… attraction. Will the chemistry between them cancel out the animosity, or were their first impressions just too powerful to change?

Samantha is the haughty older woman who is no longer interested in the opposite sex, only her precious horses. Or so she thinks until hot young vet Brett shows up to treat one of her horses. Pretty soon the horses aren't the only ones getting the hands on treatment from Brett!
I loved this short story of romance bridging the age gap

I received a free copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

When Brett is called out to check on an unwell horse, he was little prepared for the effect the horses obnoxious owner would have on him. Samantha is a wealthy, feisty woman with a severe dislike of men, and it shows! Brett is both angered by her attitude towards him, but moreso, by the unwelcome stirrings he encounters down below. Never mind he thinks, after this call he'll never see her again - or will he?

What a cracking little read this was! Lucy really didn't disappoint with this light-hearted, fun and detailed short story. Plenty of hotness all round 😉

I hated Samantha with a passion, being an equestrian myself, her stereotype annoys me. On the other hand I do love the equestrian and hot vet fantasy and wow that made up for it !!

The chemistry between Brett and Samantha is there from the start. When the sparks fly - duck! They are likely to explode and not for any good reason.

I don't want to say too much as this is a fantastic quick read, it's funny, it's sexy, it's wild!

On Her High Horse by Lucy Felthouse is an erotic short story which centres around handsome veterinarian Brett Coulson and haughty stable-owner Samantha Hanson-Bishop. The young vet has been warned about the practice's most demanding client, but nothing quite prepares him for their first meeting. It's fair to say that sparks fly between Brett and Samantha, but initially they are more of the kind we were warned about in 90s Public Safety Announcements about playing with a kite near a pylon. Thrown together again at a fundraiser they are both shocked to feel that initial frisson of electricity turning into something a little less deadly, but just as tingly all over...

The narrative style and writing were both as 'down to Earth' as Brett himself professed to be, and there was a distinct Britishness to it all that was quite refreshing.

Julie-Ann Amos' narration was engaging, with good intonation and inflection preventing her performance from being flat. Each of her characters had distinct voices, though my initial impression was that her tone was a bit headmistress-ish, but as I learned more about Samantha this actually came to feel like a good fit. The fact that Amos sounds not dissimilar to Liza Tarbuck was a little disconcerting at times - such as when she was very matter-of-factly describing Brett addressing his frustrations in a layby - but it helped the story lose the melodramatic pretension that is so common in stories of this nature, and lent it some humourousness (if sometimes unintentionally).

Whilst we are always encouraged not to judge a book by its cover, that is especially important in this case, as the cover does not represent the contents very well at all. Samantha describes herself as old enough to be Brett's mother, and a sexless, possibly pre-menopausal, divorcee who has not been attracted to any man in a very long time. I think that makes Samantha a much more interesting protagonist than the cookie-cutter Babestation-blonde on the cover, and one who would appeal to a broader range of women who might be searching for a steamy fantasy romp that also feels tantalisingly resonant.

The writing could do with a bit of polish but I doubt anyone is listening to this book for its literary merit. I also felt that the intimate scenes could have explored Brett's experience in more detail, but if you want a steamy short story that doesn't take itself too seriously then this one certainly fits the bill.

On Her High Horse
A Steamy Medical Romance Novella

By: Lucy Felthouse
Narrated by: Julie-Ann Amos

Lucy Felthouse fit a lot of story in to this short novella. The book is well written and the storylines are interesting, they grab your attention from the start. Considering the length of the book you can only expect so much character development and the Author gives us just enough to get to know them. The chemistry between the two leads, Brett and Samantha, is off the charts and their encounters are hot and nicely done. I enjoyed this book, it contains drama, angst & hot romance. Lucy Felthouse, thank you for this great & entertaining story. BTW, I love the title too!

I listened to the audible edition, Juli-Ann Amos does a wonderful job narrating and telling the story. She performs the voices of all the characters and brings them to life from the pages to your ears.

On Her High Horse by Lucy Felthouse is a short and steamy listen with an older woman/younger man storyline. I find that opposites do attract, and that was exactly what this book has. Julie-Ann Amos performs this book flawlessly. She gives distinguishable voices to the characters and adds the right emotions. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

This was an absoulutely fabulous short steamy story. I loved how realistic the characters, faults and all. Great insight getting to know both. Heroine was quite stuck up and had to learn how to come down off her high horse. Hero was great, took no BS, but was still compassionate. Wonderful steamy scenes. I listened to the audiobook version. Outstanding narrator really made this special.

On Her High Horse was a great quick read by Lucy Felthouse. Brett and Samantha have hated each other since the first time they met. Unfortunately for them fate throws them together at a charity fundraiser. They both try to deny their attraction which isn't easy to do.

I really liked this quickie! It's well written with a side of smut. The editing is clean and the characters believable. If you're looking for a little something to get the juices flowing, this might just be your ticket.

Three stars for the unmistakable chemistry between Samantha and Brett, but too much blabla for me to like the story.
