A good collection of Adventure Time shorts. I didn't enjoy this book as much as Adventure Time: Sugary Shorts Vol. 3, but it was still entertaining. The artwork was all amazing of course. I just didn't connect with as many of the actual stories. Plus, I was really missing Fionna and Cake.
As weird as it was, I did enjoy "A Dish Best Served Gross" by Josh Tierney. Some of my other favorites included Kat Leyh's "Grocery Kingdom", Ian McGinty's "Sir BMO", Colin Andersen's "Tiger and the Moon", and Mady Martin's "The Water Strike".
Overall, a good collection. I still found it entertaining. For some reason it just didn't resonate with me as much as the previous collection. I will definitely continue to read books in the series though. Very entertaining.
At the very least, the mini-comics collected in the fourth and fifth volumes of Sugary Shorts, extras compiled from various Adventure Time publications, are all fun. While some may be a bit sillier than others, like the other volumes of the series, the eclectic artists included do a great job capturing the voice and tone of the show. Some attempt to replicate the style of the show deeply, while others interpret its characters and themes through their own artistic lens. Some work better than others and some are just filler, but the best, such as Dale Beran’s piece in Vol. 4, Flowers for Paulticore, really accomplish both.
I'm really appreciating the level of art quality in these short stories. Some really talented people are getting onboard to contribute more stories to the worlds of Adventure Time and we're all the better for it. This volume definitely had more Finn and Jake in it and some princess spotlights. But not much Fionna and Cake unfortunately.
