Moo Moo the cow and Mr. Quackers the duck return in this follow-up to their initial oddball comedy of an adventure,
Moo Moo in a Tutu
, once more finding themselves involved in a tale of madcap hi-jinks. Struck yet again with the "best idea ever," Moo Moo launches a new venture: a restaurant! Unfortunately, she and Mr. Quackers aren't the best, whether it be as wait staff or as chefs. Fortunately, Moo Moo has another idea...
I enjoyed What's Cooking, Moo Moo? as much as its predecessor, appreciating the pairing of entertaining tale with fun, cartoon-style illustrations. The back and forth between Moo Moo and Mr. Quackers, and between the two and their (unfortunate!) diners, is quite amusing. The duck's reaction to his friend's over-the-top ideas is sure to win some chuckles from young listeners. Recommended to anyone who enjoyed the first tale about these two, as well as to those seeking new stories about oddball friends and their (mis)adventures.

For some individuals it's an art form perfected over every second of their lives. They are literally a catalogue of seemingly infinite ideas. These beings are schemers and dreamers, daring to imagine and do. They never stop thinking outside the box.
If you are a cow with this marvelous mindset and your best buddy is a duck, it's a guarantee the results will not be as expected. Meeting Moo Moo and Mr. Quackers in Moo Moo & Mr. Quackers present Moo Moo in a Tutu (Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, April 25, 2017) was a reading adventure down a path filled with laughter. The companions have returned in Moo Moo & Mr. Quackers present What's Cooking, Moo Moo? (Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, April 3, 2018). Author illustrator Tim Miller serves readers a memorable meal with heaping helpings of humor and equal measures of friendship.

Mr. Quackers wants to go on vacation, but instead, Moo Moo opens a restaurant with the money. Moo Moo insists that it'll be a lot of fun, so Mr. Quackers asks what's on the menu. Moo Moo is cooking up a mixture of all of his favorite things.
The customers think the food Moo Moo serves is disgusting and it makes them sick. Mr. Quackers decides to give it a try, but that doesn't work out either. In the end, owning a restaurant isn't as exciting as Moo Moo thought it would be.
WHAT'S COOKING, MOO MOO had me laughing all the way through. The pictures are appealing and vibrant and the plot is funny and entertaining. I love the main characters and how their personalities differ from each other.
Final Verdict: I would recommend this book to children who love animals and who like stories that will make them laugh.

August 24, 2020This cartoon-like picture book story features Mr. Quackers (a duck) and Moo, Moo (a cow). The two friends want to spend more quality time together. Mr. Quackers is envisioning a vacation, but Moo Moo decides to open a restaurant.
A lot of people show up to the restaurant's grand opening.
The kids made a lot of comments about the appropriateness of the dishes being served.
Funny book for fans of Moo Moo and Mr. Quackers.

What better way for Mr. Quackers and Moo Moo to spend more time together than to open up a restaurant? Unfortunately, the two really have no idea how to run a diner ... and what they think makes a good meal isn’t exactly crowd-pleasing.

A comic-book style picture book about a cow and a duck that open a doomed-to-failure restaurant together. But the point is that they get to spend time together.
Quite funny. Recommended for storytime.

Too much happening in this visually, the story kind of gets waylaid.

Moo Moo convinces Mr. Quackers to open a restaurant. Although it's a hair brained, half-baked idea, Mr. Quackers agrees to do it. What could possible go wrong? A silly good time.
