4 - THE GINORMOUS SERIES children's picture-books As a grandma and ex-crime investigator, SCC understands the importance of helping parents/schools gently guide and equip their young for life. T
When Amy was only four she had a lucky escape, not that every little girl who the bad man took did. The little girl he took the week after he had abused her, he killed. Amy made a deal with God, when she died she wanted to put a bit of balance back in the world and protect children from being abused or murdered.
Unfortunately Amy got her wish much younger than she thought she would, when he life came to an end abruptly under one of the tube trains in London. Amy soon found out she wasn’t the only one that had made a deal and got their prayers answered. She became part of The Unit. The angels that tried to get the bad guys put away behind bars, or that is what they were supposed to do.
This is a pretty cool story with extremely serious under tones. Not only does it deal with child abuse and grooming but the whole bundle of moral issues where humans seem to delight in vile practices. There are pretty graphic descriptions of abuse, cruelty and sex which uses appropriate language in the story setting. This is very much an adult series.
I loved the theme of the story and although this super team are there to bring justice for the victims, they really are no Angels the way they go about it. They dish quite a bit of revenge out themselves in the form of violence rather than forgiveness. It really is an all action story with re-caps into the former lives of The Unit, as to what deal they each made that brought them all together.
I found the last quarter of the book very intense to the point of talking to myself and the characters. Well I say talking, probably shouting at them really with confusing advice. There is a budding love story going on too with Jack (also in the Unit) and Amy. This is going to make a very fascinating series to follow.
This started off interesting with Guardian Angels in heaven making up an organization to help right the evils in the world. Like a very complex, sophisticated MI5. It definitely put a different spin on the afterlife.
Where the story got a little wonky for me was when the family dynamic was introduced. I would have enjoyed it better if they just continued fighting evil, righting wrongs and finding love. The twist put into play just added a level of complexity that I didn’t care for. I will warn readers there are some hard themes that take place in the story, not to the lead characters, but they are fighting evil and the evil happens in the “background”. It can be horrific.
The concept of the story was good, but I am not sure if I will continue it or not, but it was interesting. I am giving The Deal (The Fallen Angel Series, #1, 3 Boundless Stars, it was good.
What a surprising book; I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to which gives it a big thumbs up from me. I knew it was going to be something a bit different when I started it and it certainly is, but it also managed to hold my interest throughout as I really got to know the amazing characters.
Amy didn't expect to die that day. After waking up in a strange bed, she does the walk of shame and makes her way to the tube station. Next thing you know, she's on the tracks with a train barrelling towards her; did she jump or was she pushed? After a difficult childhood, Amy made a deal that she would get retribution when she died so she finds herself part of The Fallen in the afterlife. I loved the band of characters in The Fallen: Jack the dark brooding fatal attraction, Pyke the kind of supervisor who's timing is impeccable and Maggie who is ex MI6, swears like a trooper and loves her cup of tea. Needless to say, I warmed to Maggie immediately. Now where's me effin' cup of tea?
I loved the fact that even in the afterlife, Amy and Jack have their insecurities. They are clearly made for each other but each is frightened to make the first move, then Jack's wife arrives - cue the Eastenders dramatic theme tune. I'm not going to say anymore about the story as there are twists and turns that left me wide-eyed with surprise.
S.C. Cunningham has taken some popular beliefs and created an outstanding story. There are so many people who believe that finding a white feather means that they have been visited by a loved one or angel, rather than they have just shaken their duvet. I'm not a great believer in this as I feel my dearly departed loved ones all around me and I don't need to see a feather to know that they are there, but fair play to those who do believe. I liked how the white feather was woven into the story when the characters returned to Cloud 9 (love this too!).
I've hovered between a four and a five star rating for The Deal and settled on four stars, although I'm sure there will be many five star reviews forthcoming. The writing is excellent and the story is brilliant but it is difficult to read at times, even though I felt the graphic scenes had been kept to a minimum so as not to overstep my comfort zone. The hint is in the title, that this is book 1 in the Fallen Angel series, but it does lead nicely on to a sequel.
The Deal is completely different from anything I have ever read; it is an outstanding book that covers many issues in an ethereal but definitely punchy way. Step out of your comfort zone and try it - you won't be disappointed.
I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.
I wrote this, so am biased. But I would like to review others work on this;
Canadian Narrator, Susan Knight, has created a wonderful job of the Audiobook version. Managing to hurdle the tricky English lingo/slang/humour. She brings the story to life.
US Producer, Daniel Blake Smith, is creating the film version, further bringing it to life - "I'm lucky to have in your novel such an embarrassment of riches to work with." Writer/Producer Daniel Blake Smith.
Am grateful and lucky to have them and you in my life, readers give us writers/creatives courage to keep moving forward. Thank you, stay safe.
If I died and went to Hell, the Devil would sit me down and read me every typo I've ever made. Gag! Talk about a living nightmare!
Let's just pray I'm lucky enough to go to heaven and be a BALLER like Amy Fox as she gets sweet succulent revenge on all the people who abused her.
At the start of The Deal, we are immediately thrust into the action. We are inside a prison where a conniving criminal wants to exchange cells. YaaaaNO. Pretty soon he'll start asking for t-bone steaks and use the bones to go HAM on other prisoners like Gerald Butler in Law Abiding Citizen.
Oooo and these criminals are so perfectly sculpted. SC Cunningham gives us immaculate descriptions through the eyes of a detective. I mean, who can even come up with details like this? It's maddening.
"Why did it feel as if someone was watching her?"
Someone is always watching, sweetheart.
Eight years later we are introduced to Amy Fox. She is an adult and very much alive when we first meet her, but not for long. There are many ways to die but my top three worst ways to go to heaven are as follows: being burnt alive, inhaling ammonia (which burns your lungs and your body instinctively sends water there—like a blister—and essentially drowns you), and lastly, getting hit by a train.
One of these happens to Amy. Hey, she's gotta get to heaven somehow!
Let me just warn you all now: The Deal is incredibly raw and explores dark themes of human trafficking and abuse. I don't know how SC Cunningham did it, but Amy Fox brings balance to the plot with her humor and lightheartedness.
Except she's not very lighthearted when it comes to getting revenge on the man who raped her when she was four. Yes, four.
Is getting revenge at the expense of others worth it, though? To Amy, it kind of is....
You're probably asking yourself right about now, "Where is the romance NDP?"
Entering: Jack.
Le sigh. Let's talk about Jack for a minute before we analyze the plot. HELLO HOTTIE! Jack is Amy's "new" partner. I say "new" because he may be a stranger to her, but she is no stranger to him. 😏
"You became my obsession... all the time. Think more, a bodyguard that you didn’t have to pay."
Umm. Can I be your obsession?
Now our protective Jack is concerned Amy is going to be consumed by revenge (too late) but now they've got their feelings intermingled into this mess of avenging and justice. Something has got to give, and I'm afraid that Amy is going to choose revenge over love.
Why wouldn't she?
SC Cunningham sent me on a vivid acrobatic journey replaying Amy's past at the right intervals. The text is detailed, flawless, and wonderful. The puzzle pieces all started to line up as I followed Amy through her transformation and inevitably towards her happily ever after. The Deal is so descriptive I felt as if I was reading line for line an investigative report. There is quite a bit of dialogue which I don't typically enjoy, but it all had a purpose, propelling the characters and developing them through actions.
The Deal is blissfully raw and absolutely perfect. ★★★★★ for days.
(And let's not forget to mention that this book is absolutely typo-free. Devil ain't got nothin' on this book.)
*FTC Disclaimer: I received a copy of The Deal from SC Cunningham in exchange for an honest review. I have in no way been influenced by the author and/or publisher's generosity. You can't fake these stars, baby!
Amy Fox is abducted when she four years old, she makes a deal with God that when she dies she help get the baddies that the police can’t. When she dies at only thirty-two the deal comes into effect and she becomes a Fallen, working with Jack, a mysterious hunk to protect the ‘Erthfolk’ below them.
I have to be honest this is the first time I have read this genre before and wow, this was a lot darker book than I was expecting! Amy and her team deal with the worst of the worst, murderers, paedophiles and rapists to name a few. I want to warn everyone before they jump into this book that there is scenes of child abuse and rape which I found, even as a hardened crime fiction fan, hard to read.
If you put that aside, I really liked Amy. She headstrong, rebellious and a little damaged after her childhood trauma and the chemistry between her and Jack was fantastic. Another one of my favourite characters was Pyke, a computer hacker, and a bit of a sweetheart who’s mission in his afterlife was to punish drug dealing scum.
There was also some tremendous villains that I guarantee will turn your stomach.
I found the whole concept of the story immensely interesting. I would love to think that there was some supernatural police force out there dishing out karma to bullies and bad guys and watching over the most vulnerable in our society.
I did feel that it could have been edited a bit more, especially some of the dialogue. One that sticks out is in the first chapters where Amy is having a conversation with her friend Sal and it went on a little too long, going over the same things. I also felt that story could have ended a bit earlier, as I think that it would have lead nicely into a second book but that of course is just my opinion.
Overall a good start a series and I’m looking forward to see what happens next.
This was an interesting series. The book started off slow but it did improve and I enjoyed it a lot. I liked the whole Cloud 9 agent thing. It would be nice if there was an angelic group looking to take down the bad guys in real life! The whole triangle between Jack, Mara and Amy was different. I don't want to give anything too interesting away but their relationships were definitely interesting. I am definitely curious enough to read more of this series.
I was granted complimentary Audible access to The Deal by C.S. Cunningham as part of my participation in the blog tour for this title through Rachel’s Random Resources. Thank you to all involved! This has not swayed my opinion; my thoughts are my own and my review is honest.
The Deal introduces us to “fallen angel” Amy and her newfound coworkers. In this version of our modern world, people who make deals with their god before death that they will help deal justice if they can be permitted to hang around on earth and make a difference in the world after death. Amy survived childhood sexual abuse and has a vendetta again child abusers in particular, and her zeal for executing her own flavour of justice is getting her in trouble with the higher ups in her unit of vigilante angels.
I absolutely love the premise behind this book and series! The way this book was pitched to me reminded me of Tad Williams’ The Dirty Streets of Heaven, but with a romantic element. Vigilante angels? Heck yes, give me all of it!
The reasons this book gets 3 stars out of 5 for the story itself are structural editing issues and the strong emphasis I need to put on content warnings.
Content warnings: Graphic description of sexual acts (both with and without consent), graphic violence, murder, exploration of the phycological trauma created by childhood sexual abuse. If you have trauma relating to these issues and are easily triggered by reading this type of content, this book is NOT for you! This book may also be emotionally distressing to parents of young children.
As for structural editing issues, this book has a lot of scenes that are repetitive. Characters relay the same information to multiple other characters separately and we the reader (listener) have to hear it blow for blow again. Scene-setting conversations (such as Amy’s phone conversation in the very beginning as she unknowingly walks to her death) last a little too long. Jumping between past and present while also jumping between point of view characters so frequently gets quite disorienting at times, and given that this is now an audiobook and the reader isn’t visually processing the chapter headers, it became more apparently that there isn’t enough distinctive character voices written into the narrative to help the readers keep it all straight.
Those issues aside, this is a very entertaining book with a lot of action, and I have high hopes for the rest of the series.
In terms of narration, I would give the performance 4 out of 5 stars. Generally speaking, Susan Knight’s voice is very pleasant to listen to and I would absolutely look for more books narrated by her. I do wish she was more able to distinguish between POV character voices. Part of that is on the material she was working with, but I didn’t detect any attempt to adopt a different pitch or manner of speaking to distinguish one character from another. I’d also like to comment briefly on pronunciation. My first note in this category is that whenever the word “pillow” comes up the narrator says “pellow,” and that’s a personal pet peeve of mine. If that were the only thing I noticed I wouldn’t have mentioned it. Much more distracting was that every time the text said “ethereal” the narrator said “erethral” which is very close to “urethral.” Personally, if I were the author or anyone else involved in approving the narration files, I would have asked for those lines to be re-recorded. (And I really hope I’m not putting my foot in my mouth and this is a Cumberbatch “pengwing” type issue where that honestly was the best take after many corrections.)
Story: 3 Performance: 4 Overall: 3 – 3.5
I would recommend this book to fans of fantasy and of paranormal romance as long as they are fine with the above mentioned major content warnings.
Avenging angels aren’t a new story, but SC Cunningham’s The Deal delivers a fresh spin with a grittier, edgy feel.
Tenacious Amy Fox ends up in the afterlife and due to a deal she made with God, she’s an avenging angel circumventing and defeating evil on every front.
Driven by the memory of the horrible sexual violence she suffered as a preschooler, overzealous doesn’t even begin to describe Amy. Angel, though she may be, Amy holds nothing but contempt for those who deal and profit from human suffering—specifically, human trafficking—and goes above and beyond to dispense with the lowlifes who always seem to slip through the cracks of justice. Her memories also lead Amy to hold tight to hopes of revenge against her abuser, the appropriately named Richard ‘Dick’ Parker. and the chance at a little vigilante justice.
No one said angels were perfect—although they could use a few less F-bombs.
New partner Jack, a fallen angel, is supposed to keep Amy in line… but that never happens. HA! Someone needs to keep Jack in line! He’s adorable even if his psyche was kicked around by life, but the connection from the past he shares with Amy is a mind bender. Didn’t see that coming!
Amy Fox is a great protagonist. She is far from perfect, but I love the fact she’s unapologetic. All too often, male anti-heroes are accepted as being ill-natured, overbearing, rough-talking rule-breakers. When a female lead is portrayed similarly, there’s something ‘wrong’ with her… there’s a reason for her ‘flaw’ and she needs to be ‘fixed’.
Whatever. Amy is still learning the craft of keeping mortals safe, but she won’t apologize for being a bit heavy-handed.
Familial connections are revealed that gave me pause over how the whole good/evil thing mingles so closely together. They also made me wonder if I could kill Gregori myself – HA! But as much as I despise him, my ugh character in The Deal is Mara. UGH!
The Deal is not for the faint of heart. It shows the worst of some of the worst, but excellent writing keeps the violence in its proper perspective and keeps the reader swiping pages. The ending made me smile… and exhale, but also made me aware this wild ride is just getting started. It’s a ride I wholeheartedly recommend!
Firstly thank you to S C Cunningham and to Rachel at Rachel's Random Resources for allowing me to take part in this blog tour.
I will warn you there are some serious trigger warnings that come with this book, child abuse, domestic abuse, and a lot of abuse in general.
We start off in a police interrogation room, in all honesty, I'm genuinely not quite sure why. But it doesn't take long to get to our heroine of this story, Amy Fox. At the moment she's alive, but it doesn't take long for her to die and join 'The Unit' where she gets to keep her deal that she forgot about, and gets to deactivate the bad guys.
Here she meets Jack, who has his own secrets he's keeping close to his chest. As soon as we get to 'The Unit' you know there is chemistry between Amy and Jack, I was definitely rooting for them. That is, until you learn Jack's secret. I didn't like him much after that, but soon changed my mind again.
It doesn't take long for hell to break loose and a 'Witness' to try and stop and take down 'The Unit' which is when we start to learn secrets and truths. At this point I was guessing and second guessing what I thought, but turned out I was wrong. After a few good deeds, a white feather is found but the people Amy and Jack helped, but there is no mention anywhere in the book that they actually have wings, so this did confuse me a bit.
With so many twists and turns I did enjoy this book, but did feel that the abuse details were a bit too graphic and weren't needed. This being said, I can't wait to see what the next installment brings, as this definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. I'm giving this a 4/5 and I definitely recommend it. But do be careful of the triggers.
When Amy Fox was four years old she was kidnapped and raped. She managed to get away but the next little girl her attacker took was not so lucky. She made a deal with God that when she dies she wants to go after the bad guys that don’t get punished. Years later and the promise forgotten, Amy dies via train.
She then wakes and learns that she is not part of The Unit, a specialized group that looks to protect those in danger. But there is something going on besides what you see on the surface. It seems that some people in The Unit don’t really want to help the innocent and proceed to cause problems for the rest of the group.
This is a dark story with very realistic descriptions of abuse, rape, and such. But to get the point across in this story I think this works well. I love The Unit and everything they stand for. Although Amy forgets about her promise, she quickly fits in and becomes a killer woman fighting to protect the innocent.
I also enjoyed the romance aspect between John and Amy although there were moments that I was not that impressed with John. I think this really added to the story without drowning it.
This is a great story and one that I recommend checking out. I’m excited to see what SC Cunningham comes up with for book 2.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
Thank you to S.C. Cunningham for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my. Part paranormal romance, part mystery thriller The Deal is sure to be a hit with fans of both dramas. With enough action and suspense to keep it interesting, sprinkled with steamy scenes, and topped off with a final reveal, the book was a fast read.
However, it wasn't an easy read. There are a lot of dark, dark things in this book. You'd expect to be told about gruesome crimes these unique angels fight. What I did not expect was the vivid detail--especially of the different pedophelic and sexual assault variety. I'm only a book blogger by night, y'all. By day I'm a mom. And this portion of the book threw me too much to read at night. Please, please know if you have any triggers pertaining to these themes, this is absolutely not a book you should pick up.
If you have no such triggers, the story is unique and there is justice dispensed throughout the book.
As soon as I read the description I was intrigued and I couldn't wait to start reading. The start of this book definitely got my attention and I was looking forward to seeing where the story would go from there.
I do have to mention that there are some dark themes within this book which were hard to read at times. With some graphic descriptions that are definitely for 18+ ages. However I enjoyed the way the Unit went about their work especially Amy who's character has been through so much but came out the other side determined to deal with the people who commit evil acts. Then add in Jack to the mix which creates a fiery and unpredictable combination along with a hint of romance.
The premise really caught my attention, wouldn't it be great if there were people righting the wrongs and pursuing anyone who had committed terrible crimes. There were a few twists that I didn't see coming and these made for a really interesting story. The pace was really good with the momentum being kept throughout giving the reader a very dark and twisty tale!
Four stars for me!
With thanks to Rachel at Rachel's Random Resources for my copy. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.
I absolutely loved this 1st installment of this series, and can't wait to get into the next. In the age-old fight of good vs. evil, Jack & Amy, while in what many would call "purgatory," are in non-stop battles against those who would take new souls "underground" so that evil can rule Erth. Not quite angels, the members of the Units, like Jack & Amy, fight diligently to save the good & innocent while they wait to see where they, themselves, will go to next by God's decision. There are moments of levity as well as heartbreak. I would have given this book a full 5 stars, if it were not for the graphic sex scenes & almost constant use of vulgar language. Personally, I don't recommend this for anyone under the age of 18 because of this. I am over 60 years of age, and it still made me very uncomfortable. I still intend to read the whole series, but wish those could at least be toned down. 👍👍👍👍
"THE DEAL" interesting concept of this series .great characters..written quite well with great details.i was surprised by some brutal and violence on this book so i recommend it's a 18+ series... but i must say you should read this book it's so exciting and fresh......
This audiobook creates a believable world where fallen angels bring evil humans to justice. This is a hard-hitting series with disturbing themes. It's difficult to listen to in parts because of the detailed descriptions, but the author creates a world of avenging angels who don't follow the rules to achieve what human justice systems cannot.
It works well as an audiobook, with the narrator distinguishing between the characters and bringing them to vivid life. This is an adult story, the action and language befitting the evil portrayed. Relatable characters and relevant themes make this an absorbing story to listen to for adult fantasy fiction listeners.
I received a copy of this audiobook from the author in return for an honest review.
As I say it's a interesting concept of this storyline. Great characters, written quite well with lot's of great details regarding descriptions. I warmed up easily on the characters. I really liked the information of each character in how they died to get insight of them. I only found some dialogues a bit to long special at the start of the book when Amy has a conversation on her mobile with Sally, it was a bit to long. Also I would have loved a bit more information on her parents bit more interactions into the storyline. But overall I have enjoyed the storyline. When comes the next part? Would love to find out more.
I struggled a bit with the pacing of the book, and just generally the character development, but I decided to ignore that because it is the first book in a series.
The premise itself is wonderful: fallen angels exacting instant karma on unsuspecting criminals – yes please! Sign me up for this deal, right now!
Amy and Jack are pretty impressive characters, and the story itself flowed quickly, even though there were some bizarre moments.
I did not realise some of the content would upset me so much but i persisted and read through. Quite hard reading it and i am sorry to say i cant read the next books. I would love to but if the contents the same i cant. Amy, Jack and co are much to be comended for fighting the good fight and i hold my hands up and say its just the realness the author has put into describing some of the evil within the world.
Wow what a book. I am a fifty year old woman and the violence and brutal raping of this book was shocking. If I put those bits out the rest of the book was exciting and fresh. The whole idea of people becoming fallen angels and helping out erthfolk was brilliant. Like the white feather touch too. I am reading the second book now.
Gifted this book by the author and could not put it down until I finished it. Love Angel books and this had a great quirky storyline with fantastic characters. Will definitely be looking for more by her.
I really like the concept behind this series and I thought the characters were great. However, there's more than one plot line interweaving and I sometimes got confused as to how it all fitted together especially earlier in the book. It doesn't really come together until close to the end.
The Deal: Crime Rom Fantasy (The Fallen Angel Series Book 1) pulls you straight into a world where justice is not clean, angels are anything but holy, and karma comes with attitude. From the very first pages, this book makes it clear that it is not about halos and hymns. It asks a bold question about good and evil and then gleefully smashes the neat answers we are used to. The idea of a secret crime unit unknowingly working alongside fallen entities feels fresh, edgy, and instantly gripping.
What really stands out is how cinematic the whole story feels. It genuinely plays like a fast paced film, with action, sharp dialogue, and scenes that are easy to picture in your head. The fallen are wild, rebellious, and morally grey. They break rules, argue with their bosses, and often kill more than they save, which makes them far more interesting than traditional heroes. The vibe strongly echoes shows like Fringe, Torchwood, and Warehouse 13, but it still manages to feel like its own original universe.
The romance adds another addictive layer to the story. It is intense, emotional, and full of sizzling chemistry without taking over the plot. The relationships feel messy and real, fitting perfectly into a world where nothing is black and white. Instead of softening the story, the romance raises the stakes and makes the characters feel more human, even when they are anything but.
Overall, this book is a thrilling escape into a dark, creative, and wildly entertaining world. It makes you question what angels really are and whether justice is ever truly pure. By the end, it is easy to see why readers say they wanted to jump into the pages and be part of it. Addictive, imaginative, and begging to be adapted for screen, this is a must read for anyone who loves crime, fantasy, and stories that dare to break the rules.
Overall 4 out of 5 stars Performance 3 out of 5 stars Story 4 out of 5 stars
My expectations were not high when I went into listening to this book. I was looking for some mindless entertainment. Nothing earth shattering or world changing. I was at most anticipating a laugh or two. Okay maybe a bit more, but what I got changed a lot of things. This was deep, dark, and a bit disturbing.
I can usually listen to my books at a good clip (2.5 or 3 times the speed). With this one I had to slow it down and not because it was so exacting to my romance standards. No, I had to slow it down because I was almost confused on what I was hearing. The depth of details of graphic wrongs people commit on their fellow humans. The details and complexity of the evil that plagues this world. I thing instead of laughing much I cried more. This one hurt me but kept me entertained and engaged. There was good mixed in with the evil the world choses to not see way too often.
Amy was for me the Angel of the underdog, the wronged, the forgotten, the lost. This was most certainly a darker side of PNR than I am use to. There was nothing complicated about this one, not true. This was raw, real, and a bit startling. I want to know what is next.
Susan Knight brought Amy right off the pages. She sounded good in each of the three speeds that I used during this story. She allowed for me to make a deeper connection to the darkness that was occurring with Amy, her mission, and her past.
Reasons I enjoyed this book: Action-packed Entertaining Great world building Twisted Unpredictable
The book starts with a plea from 4 year old Amy Fox to God. She was taken and she survived, but the girl that was taken after her didn’t. She promises to be a good girl from that day forward and in exchange when she does die she asks to sit on a cloud, be invisible and catch the bad guys that evade the police. What Amy doesn’t realise is that someone is listening and as soon as she utters her plea a deal is made. 28 years later, what Amy doesn’t realise is that it’s her last day on earth and the she joins the ranks of the Fallen, a network of souls who hand out karma to those on earth. Alongside her partner and mentor Jack, Amy is now an Angel. Jack is definitely a stickler for the rules, however Amy is the opposite and likes bending/stretching the rules. When Amy feels she is being watched and a new recruit to the unit causes complications the story takes a turn that you’re not expecting.
The attraction between Amy and Jack is definitely mutual and their chemistry is off the scale. The characters were well written and it has hard not to like Pyke and Maggie especially. It was interesting to learn more about Amy and Jack’s past before they joined the Fallen, the impact that this had on their lives and how it drives their motivation during their assignments.
This was an original and fascinating story full of likeable characters and at times quite intense. The perfect audio book to escape the real world and disappear into another.
If you like fantasy books I would very much recommend this.
This book is a fantastic supernatural book, that is a perfect combination of supernatural beings fighting crime, how cool is that? Amy, the protagonist after dying goes to heaven as an angel where they form a group called The Fallen to fight the bad guys on earth. The story mainly Amy wanting revenge on the criminals who had abused her when she was four, while falling for Jack, another angel in their group. The book has immense dark undertones and discusses very relevant and important topics like rape, child abuse, etc. They're quite graphic at places but not too much to put you out of your comfort zone. The book is extremely captivating and the language is lucid, and very well written without any mistype! Absolutely would recommend this book to anyone interested in this genre. This book is a hidden gem!
I read the second book first and found it to be better than this first one, however I really enjoyed them both. I love the whole idea of Cloud 9 and their mission to do what they can to help we Erthfolk. It is also great that these aren't immortals who just snap their fingers and make everything right, but they have to find other more ingenious ways to intervene. Yes, there are dark themes, but that is the reality of our world. Hiding from it just helps it all stay in the shadows. So I applaud the author for not shying away from the hard topics. After reading both books I was desperate to read the next in the series but unfortunately it doesn't appear to have been published yet. Sigh. So my only complaint is I can't sit down with the next book and devour it in one sitting.
The concept of this book is really good and certainly unique I think the author has potentially made a very good universe for future books for although this novel focuses on our main character Amy, the world could be open enough to easily write about other characters. I did struggle though with this book, the start was great but there seemed to be a time jump between Amy dying and her in her new role, as such I felt some of the development was lost, as such I didn’t feel as invested in the romance of this story because it felt like we were told more than shown the love between the characters. The secondary characters were really well done though and I enjoyed the scenes with them.
