Design today is a global instrument. Bernhard Bürdek traces the progress of design from its beginnings in the late 19th century, through the most significant movements of the 20th century up to those recent developments in biological engineering which will shape the 21st century. Design is now a discipline in its own right and its expertise can be incorporated within interdisciplinary processes. The most important fundamental principles of design theory and methodology are presented, looking in particular at the communicative function of products and highlighting aspects such as corporate and service design, design management, strategic design, interface/interaction design and human design.

Uma segunda leitura foi importante para dar um novo valor ao livro. Bürdek apresenta uma história do design consistente, apesar de suscinta, e uma boa discussão metodológica. Vale muito pelas discussões a cerca da pesquisa em design, metodologia (o como fazer) e teoria (o que pode, o que deve, e o que será o design). Infelizmente a edição, fartamente ilustrada, também torna o livro bastante caro, o estudante de design vai ficar dependendo das bibliotecas de seus cursos para a leitura.

به‌طور کلی کتاب خوبیه. اول یه تاریخچه مختصر از دیزاین می‌ده و بعد توی کشورهای مختلف بررسیش می‌کنه و در آخر به فلسفه و تفکر دیزاین می‌پردازه که ضعیف‌ترین بخشه. البته نه به لحاظ محتوا که از نظر ترجمه به نظر میاد مترجم تسلط کافی روی محتوای اون بخش نداشته و خوب ترجمه نکرده.

یه مشکلی هم هست که وقتی دو سه‌ تا کتاب درباره‌ی هنرهای تجسمی و به‌خصوص در حوزه‌ی خیلی تازه‌ی دیزاین می‌خونی بهش برمی‌خوری ضبط اسامی به فارسیه که گاهی حتی اینکه متوجه بشی هر دو کتاب منظورشون یه نفر بوده سخت می‌شه. ویرایش کتاب‌های دیزاین هم که عموماً خوب نیست، البته توی این کتاب کمی بهتر بود اوضاع.
و اینکه گاهی به‌نظر میاد ترم‌های درستی انتخاب نشده. مثلاً در ترجمه‌ی internal design اومده طراحی داخلی که وقتی طراحی داخلی ترم مهم دیگری در این حوزه‌ست که ترجمه‌ی کلمه‌ی interior design هست فکر می‌کنم بهتر بود مثلاً از ترم طراحی درونی استفاده می‌شد.

Gutes Buch, um einen umfangreichen und kritischen Überblick über Design, seine Geschichte und Herausforderungen zu bekommen. Besonders deutlich wird das fehlende eigene disziplinäre Wissen im Design.
Allerdings wiederholen sich einige Aussagen.

ترجمه بد، ولی کتابِ خوبی بود.
برای شناختِ مباحثِ معنی‌شناسی و نشانه‌شناسی در طراحی مطالبِ جالب اما ناکافیی داشت. تاریخچه‌ی مختصری هم از طراحی‌صنعتی در کشورهای مختلف در بخش اول کتاب بود که می‌تونه دیدِ کلیِ خوبی به خواننده بده برای تحقیقاتِ پیشِ رو.

Excellent primer on design theory and philosophy. Possibly the best out there. Broken up into logical and useful sections. I enjoyed Burdek’s opinionated analysis but I can understand how some will take against him.
