I always love how Stacy Henrie's books transport me to the setting with rich historical details. The characters really came to life against the backdrop the author set and while it's a relatively quick read, that's partly because I couldn't put it down! Maggy is a strong and determined detective and I loved her interactions with Edward. There is an element of suspense as she works to solve the case, and the pretend engagement was an especially fun way to bring her and Edward closer. They both ha ...more

Edward's ranch is in trouble and his last chance is a Pinkerton detective by the name of Maggy. Say, what? A female? She's known as "Get-her-man" Maggy and she really is good at what she does. I love the little twist of a fake engagement to make her presence plausible.

Edward is such a hard working gentleman and I love how his protectiveness surfaces, right along with his growing affection for his "fiancee." There are some fun, mysterious, and busy-body characters that really made me feel right

I thoroughly enjoyed this latest historical romance from Stacy Henrie. There’s humor and affection, faith and romance, a dime-novel-loving housekeeper, a British cowboy and a female Pinkerton agent. I mean, really – What’s not to love?

Maggy is such a layered character – from the domestic abuse she suffered in her past to her great success as a detective. Although she still struggles with feelings of worthlessness, she has risen above the unthinkable and broken down gender barriers. I a

I LOVED THIS BOOK!! Strong female leads are my favorite! And this one didn't need to get rescued like a damsel in distress. The ending was PERFECT. I can't reveal anything without giving it away but just go get this book. It's not the usual romance. It's so much better!

Seriously -- what could be better than a cowboy hero? A British aristocrat cowboy hero that's what! I'm just...beyond twitterpated and well into gobsmackingly smitten over Edward. Even Maggy finds unguarded moments when she feels attracted to him...and that's saying something because she has no intentions of ever being controlled by a man again. This unconventional heroine is content to make her own way in a man's world and I absolutely love that about her. But there is also a heap of vulnerabil ...more

A feisty, capable and determined detective—who happens to be female—and a British transplant to Wyoming intent on proving his worth as a rancher combine for a delightful read.
With someone set on ruining all Edward Kent has worked for, he reaches out to the Pinkerton agency for help in solving the mysteries plaguing his property. When Maggy shows up at his home, he’s doubtful of the arrangement. Yet “Always-Gets-Her-Man Maggy” is nothing if not tenacious.
While there are plenty of lighthearted mom

Stacy Henrie brings something intangible to every story that she writes; she just has a special touch that’s hard to define. All the details that I love are present in The Rancher’s Temporary Engagement – character depth, historical detail, humor, romantic tension. And then there’s the emotional tug that comes from characters who don’t seem fictional at all, but easily identifiable people who face similar struggles as we might, only in a diffe

The Rancher's Temporary Engagement was a fantastic read. When I read the book's description, and saw that it had a Pinkerton detective as the main character, I knew that I had to read it. The story had danger, intrigue, and a great plot. I found it fascinating and I loved the characters.

The fake (or temporary) engagement was fun. I liked how the hero wanted to actually propose to her, so that the engagement was real and they wouldn't have to lie to anyone. It was an interesting twist and somethi

The Rancher's Temporary Engagement is my new favorite read by Stacy Henrie. I thought it was a wonderful story. Maggy is a fun and strong woman and I love love loved to see her with Edward. Those two really knew how to click and had great chemistry that makes for a great romance. I love how the author used her vision of those times and how she vividly describes the surroundings and setting perfectly that made a reader feel as though they are part of the story. I had fun being a part of it!

The first Pinkerton agent hadn’t done anything to solve Edward Kent’s problem. Following menacing notes, his mysterious enemy is now stealing his horses. Edward’s housekeeper, a diligent reader of dime novels, appeals to him to hire another detective before things go from bad to worst. Edward had certainly not expected the new Pinkerton agent: Maggy Worthing, a lovely young woman. While unfazed by a female detective, Edward is suitably impressed when Maggy quickly uncovers new leads, which look ...more

In the tradition of Francine Rivers & Liz Curtis Higgs, The Rancher's Temporary Engagement carries us back through time in love and the lives of women of faith. Stacy Henrie has truly done her homework on this fascinating time in America, when British aristocrats turn to Wyoming ranchers and battered women rise into the ranks of the Pinkertons. As the stage is set, we are gifted with a glimpse into a world that promises danger and beauty in equal turns.
Both protagonists, Edward Kent and our not-

I really enjoyed this story! I loved the characters, the story line, the dialogue, Stacy's writing style. It was all done beautifully.

When I got to Maggy's POV I instantly bristled, I was NOT a fan of the arrogant attitude she emitted. (Arrogant people, real or fictional, are a huge pet peeve of mine)
HOWEVER! Within a page or two I understood why she put off that characteristic, and I admired her for it.
What I saw at first as a cocky attitude, was actually strength and drive. The more I got to

My review is 4.5 Stars

I’m always so glad to find new authors I like. Stacy Henrie is now on my “buy as soon as it is released list”. The Rancher’s Temporary Engagement was a great story with mystery, romance, and life lessons about the love of God.

Both Edward and Maggy had been hurt in the past and had to learn to trust and to love. Edward was the third, and therefore expendable, son of an Earl. The woman he loved abandoned him for his older brother. He struggled with feelings of insignificance,

The Rancher’s Temporary Engagement

Love historical books and this is also a very mystery/suspense book. I fell in love with the main characters and descriptions of the scenes were very vivid. Loved how the housekeeper read her dime store novels. Also loved Maggy’s detective skills and how she overcome her past. This is my first book by Stacy Henrie, I will definitely have to read more of her books. I really enjoyed this book.

This was such a fun western romance. I loved the banter and chemistry between Maggy and Edward, the mystery of solving a case, the well-developed characters, and the religious part added depth to the character’s journey without being preachy or cheesy. Really enjoyed this book!

We are all worthy

Love to read about strong women. Maggy had been through a lot with her father and her husband. She had stepped away from God,but she later would learn that God had never left her. Edward had moved to American from England feeling like he was not worthy and he was a failure. In America he had started a successful ranch, but someone was trying to destroy everything he had a run him back to England. In walk Maggy a Pinkerton detective, who realized she was worth more than what her

This was a very good book. However, I would just like to say one thing. Just because the hero and is housekeeper were originally from England does not mean that tea is the answer to every crisis. I got tired of reading that the housekeeper was fixing and serving everyone tea every time someone appeared at the ranch house. I got fed up with it after there was a BIG crisis that required the help of all the ranch hands and afterwards the housekeeper fixed them all tea.

I find it hard to believe tha

The Rancher's Temporary Engagement by Stacy Henrie. Story takes place in 1898 Wyoming. Edward Kent owns a big ranch and someone is stealing horses, breaking fences and etc. He doesn't know who is doing it or why. He hires a Pinkerton Agent who sent Maggy Worthing. He didn't want a woman detective but she convinced him she was good. They worked together trying to find out who was behind the horse stealing and all. They gave Maggy the cover story that Maggy and Edward were engaged. It is a series ...more

What a fun story and a great story of redemption and love! I thoroughly enjoyed myself reading about Edward and Maggy!
Maggy Worthing is a Pinkerton agent and good at her job and is given an assignment to help rancher Edward Kent find out who’s been sabotaging his ranch and why. Try as they might to deny the attraction between them they can’t deny how well they work and interact with one another. Hopefully Kent and Maggy realize they do love each other and that they don’t wait to long to tell th

This book was a breath of fresh air for me. I've gotten tired of the drama of love triangles, and the gore and darkness of war and this book was just sweet, cute, and uplifting. It was such a nice change. I love that the story ended, it wasn't a cliffhanger for some future book deal. I love that it was fast paced and interesting. I loved the characters. Great story line. Just over all a nice way to spend an evening.
