The story of Forest and Sicily is intriguing and make for an interesting thriller. With their paths crossing on such unexpected levels I was truly wondering what was going to happen next. I did get a little confused with the past and present jumping. There were a lot of characters for me to keep up with.
The topic is timely and the subject felt very real to me. There were tense moments all through the story they made you keep pushing forward.

Audiobook Review

I won this audiobook as part of a giveaway. This was a first time read by this author September Williams.

I thought the novel was well-written, however the narration was a bit too slow and dragging. I was tempted to DNF but continued. After continuing, it was just a nice read for m.

Chasing Mercury by September Williams is a gripping narrative about a young woman by the name of Sicily and a young man by the name of Forest. Their relationship begins at the Montréal airport. In addition to their beginning journey starting from Québec Canada, their destination is the same as well. They will be attending a World Youth Festival in Berlin Germany.

In addition, to their travel and destination similarities, they both find that they are artistically talented. She is a ballerina and h

Chasing Mercury by September Williams is the start of a series that I have no doubt will be just as thrilling as the first. Although it is a romance suspense saga there is so much more to it.

As the reader begins the journey we meet Sicily a young women that is a talented ballerina, the other is Forest also a dancer but instead of ballet he specialises in Powwow Men's dance. The pair are both travelling to Berlin to perform there in the World Youth Festival of dance but meet in Montreal airport.

What do you get when two strangers, Sicily and Forest, both of whom are dancers who are heading to Berlin to perform, met in the Montreal Airport and when they’re in Zurich for a considerable layover the guy deposits a vast amount of funds into his Swiss bank account, adding Sicily’s name without her knowledge, and then mysteriously vanishes?

Besides the above similarities between these kismet type individuals, they’re both deeply committed activists for poverty related and environmental causes

An absolutely amazing book. I don’t remember waffling less to give a five-star rating. The book has everything that I want from a book. It pecked on my mind constantly. The super-intelligent dialogue has a strong pace, and the fact that it is written in present tense makes it palpable, exciting and nurturing. The author works with exquisite character shaping to make you fall in love with them, not in a romantic way, but in an inquisitive and friendly reader’s way. Just like a book needs to do it ...more

Chasing Mercury is a unique, heartwarming story that intertwines romance, family, community and social and environmental factors seamlessly. There are also aspects of mystery and suspense that keep the plot fresh and unpredictable. On top of that, add the author’s incorporation of the benefits and damage provided by elemental mercury, and you have a truly original concept. Author September Williams captures the reader with an easy to read story that weaves the different concepts in and out so th ...more

A love explored across the world

Author September Williams does an amazing job of story telling. This story is of Forrest and Sicily. A young couple who meet in the Montreal airport. They are both traveling to Berlin and learn about each other as they traverse the globe making their way to the performance in Berlin. While in route Forrest opens a bank account and puts Sicily name on it and then he vanishes. The story is a romantic suspense that explores your deepest emotions and pulls you headlon

Chasing Mercury is as much about the life of Ellie as it is about her daughter, Sicily Marshall. Sicily is separate from her fellow dancers on her way to Germany when she meets Forest. He is a dancer also, representing the First Nation, or as many of us would refer to as Native American. This book delivers adventure, soul-searching, young love, and danger as Forest seeks answers. Sicily accompanies him on his quest and challenges him with her own knowledge. All this, in a time when minorities st ...more

This book had me on my seat until the end! The plot is very different from anything I have ever read. The two main characters met in an airport and their flight is delayed. Both are dancers, she (Sicily) a ballerina, and he (Forest) a Powwow men's dancer have common interests and a spark of love ignites. The story takes some surprising twists, especially when Forest put Sicily's name on a bank account with a rather large sum of money in it and then vanishes. The story dances between past and pre ...more

Chasing Mercury is a story of love, activism and perseverance. We first meet Sicily as she is traveling to an international dance conference. She quickly falls in love with Forest, a young Native American who is way more than he originally seems. The mystery surrounding him deepens when she finds he has some importance to the movement that her parents have been working on. The characters are well developed but not exactly relatable. She meets several different people like Rainy, Moni and Pilot t ...more

Chasing Mercury by September Williams is an interesting yet environmental tale. Romance, mystery, and intrigue are woven onto these pages. Both protagonists share some commonalities but there's still that gapping hole where trust seems to sink away...

September Williams can indeed write well. The story caught my attention and held it until the end. I was left wondering what's next in this series. Poor, underprivileged, and a minority, these characters make the pages turn. Leading from sweet to da

I am decidedly NOT a romance-genre lover, but the author is a Bioethicist and lives in my old stomping grounds, so I am intrigued. =)

This romance/suspense novel by September Williams features a unique story. It tells of Sicily and Forest, a ballerina and a Powwow dancer, who meet at an airport in 1973. They are both supposed to fly to Berlin to perform at a special event. As they take their journey to get to Berlin, they eventually fall in love. However, Forest ends up doing something Sicily isn’t prepared for. He puts a large amount of money into his bank account with her name and then disappears. It’s up to Sicily to figure ...more

Easiest 5 star book I've ever read

Chasing Mercury is a smooth mix of erotic romance, adventure and suspense. Following Sicily and Foster from when they meet to a youth gathering where they are both dancing. Sicily is a tall black ballet dancer and Foster is an Indian who does powwow dancing. Things get really interesting when Foster opens an savings account and puts Sicilys name on it. I really couldn’t put this book down, it started out a little slow with mostly dialogue between Sicily and Fost

September Williams brings us Chasing Mercury, the first in The Chasing Mercury Toxic Trilogy. The write up speaks of Swiss bank accounts, the Cold War, and love in the time of mercury poisoning. I was intrigued from the start.

The main characters, Sicily and Forest are young, idealistic dancers from radically different backgrounds. Their developing romance intertwined with world events, cultural differences, and all of the things that could possibly complicate even the most solid relationship mak

I bought this book because I met the author and being an author, myself, I wanted to support her. I expected to like the book and write a mild, non-committal review. Boy, was I wrong! September Williams has written a terrific book! Not only did I enjoy the storyline and the characters, but also, I loved the way she captured the feeling of the 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s, especially for Native Americans and People of Color. Read this book and you’ll be entertained as you learn something about the e ...more

Fascinating suspenseful romance. September Williams does an amazing job keeping you hanging on to her every word. As you travel the world throughout the story, you are so enraptured you feel as if though you are traveling with the characters themselves. Eagerly anticipating the next book in this series.

*This audiobook was graciously gifted to me by its author, September Williams, in exchange for a review containing my honest thoughts and opinions. Thank you, September!

As a lover of arts, travel, romance, and suspense, this novel certainly delivers. With an exceptional and unusual setup, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the characters together, although I did have a bit of trouble keeping up with the past and present. Yes, this is a love story, but not in the conventional sense. And its themes go way beyond those of love. Racial prejudices, economic and environmental issues are also relevant. A very interesting story worth a read.

There is so much that I can relate to in this book, both on a relational and personal level. Besides the fact that I also have seizures, and understand how troublesome an issue that can be to relate to others, I love reading a story about a pair who meet so randomly with a great deal in common. The historical tales as well, are so wonderfully touching as a woman battling the issues of family and the rest of the world. I can't wait to see the next two of this series!

This is truly a lovely book, very enjoyable novel that combines romance and mystery and does it through a bond of relatable and well developed characters.
Sicily and Forest are two young, talented dancers with lots in common. They meet in an airport, discover that they share many interests and goals and gradually fall in love with each other. That is the romantic part that develops in a pleasant pace as we come to know our characters a little better and connect with them. It would be perfectly fi

I like how this isn't just some typical "romance with some complications" story. If there's anything predictable about this book, it's that you expect anything involving romance in the world of professional dancers to develop a dark side real fast. The basic plot of this book is, Girl falls in love with guy on the way to a dance competition, guy disappears after depositing money in a bank account with her name on it, and now the girl really, really wants to know who this mystery guy is and what' ...more

If you're like me and you love an original story with original characters then you are going to love this book. When I first began to read it I was afraid it was it was one of those books that's different just for the sake of being different. But as I continued to read I quickly realized that this story came from the author's heart (with the aid of an impressive intellect). If you approach this book with an open mind and allow yourself to become immersed in the story, you will not be disappointe ...more

First, in the Chasing Mercury Toxic Trilogy, this book has provided a gripping start to the series. The two main characters Forest and Sicily meet at an airport and are naturally drawn to each other due to their common interests and talents. The mystery starts as Forest deposits a large sum of money into a Swiss bank registered in Sicily’s name. Sicily then discovers Forest is missing and has no clues into his disappearance and no idea where to even start. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book ...more
This was an intense story that could be labeled not so historical fiction. It was a long story with character development . Honestly it took a few chapters to become engaged . As it touched upon my background and personal interests , it was close to the heart. The writer wanted to inform her readers about a very important part of history . I anxiously await the next novels in this trilogy.

The characters were stellar: smart and relatable. Just enough humor. The walkthrough on the 1970s movements is something I've never seen. I really enjoyed that and the mercury plot.
