Forget what you thought you knew about Little Red Riding Hood. August is back, aware of who and what she really is, learning of her heritage and a world that has been kept from her, and madly in love with an older man. August knows she and Faolan are meant to be together forever, but his sense of honor, maturity and his past stands in the way from consummating their relationship. Lacking the years to temper her impatience and still raging hormones, August will try anything to have Faolan completely and fails to understand what his reluctance is. Enter her youthful insecurities, her jealousies and her impatience, not to mention her self-centered concerns.

I have a feeling this series is going to keep getting better. Compared to the first novel, the story was more action packed and the readers got a deeper insight into what it means to be a "hunter." And if you're looking for something that's a little hot and spicy (wink, wink) then, look no further. You get the romance, the spice, the action, the adventure, and the fantasy.
World building isn't not a task taken on by the mild and I commend the author for taking her first steps. Though she's not building a completely separate world but instead a world beside our world, there was still a strong air of mystery about this hidden culture, created by the author's mix of fable and her own wonderful imagination.
Now, the story did fall short for me in some ways. My feelings for the main character were very mixed. On one hand, I loved watching her grow into her womanhood and take her first steps to becoming a badass. On the other hand, she sometimes behaved like a child and this only further underlined the age difference between her and her lover, making the relationship less believable. To be honest, I didn't like the main character as much as I did int he first novel. Thankfully, the author added so many new characters (of different races, sexuality and beliefs) so, my heart was overflowing with all the love.
Lastly, I think the language got a little flowery sometimes. A perfect example are in the sex scenes. They were well-written but after hearing phrases like "she climaxed and reached the heavens" I had some issues. I just thought there were better ways to describe it .
