Cloister Witte is a man with a dark past and a cute dog. He’s happy to talk about the dog all day, but after growing up in the shadow of a missing brother, a deadbeat dad, and a criminal stepfather, he’d rather leave the past back in Montana. These days he’s a K-9 officer in the San Diego County Sheriff's Department and pays a tithe to his ghosts by doing what no one was a ...more

Special Agent Javi Merlo and K-9 Deputy Cloister (his mother's maiden name) Witte have worked together in the past and hate each other's guts. Cloister rocks the "principled redneck" vibe while Javi is "a tall, dark man with a good haircut and a better suit." There's a strong sexual sizzle between the two men but their attraction takes a back seat to finding a child missing from an upscale new age camp/retreat outside town. 10-year-old Drew is the grandson of Javi's FBI mentor and there's a lot ...more

I was quite intrigued with Bone to Pick from new-to-me author, T.A. Moore, after I saw the blog tour at a number of blog reviews. I love animals in my romance, so reading about a a K-9 officer and an FBI agent sounds awesome.

Unfortunately, my reading experience is marred by extreme distaste with one of the characters. Simply put, I HATE this guy with passion...

Okay before I get into my rant, I can still say something positive. I thought Bourneville (or "Bon") the dog as the smartest cha

Well that was an interesting read. I enjoy a good thriller / mystery and this was a solid story. The two MCs Cloister & Javi had serious issues and I think there really needs to be a few books with these two guys together to unpack and develop their relationship. I felt we only got to the beginning of their romance at the epilogue. There were things I wanted to know about them and what factors caused them both to be so protective of themselves so that little chance for warmth or vulnerabilit ...more

Wow. THAT WAS INTERESTING. How about a romance -- no, let's make that a "romance" -- between two completely unlikeable characters? Okay, one of them has a dog, so he can't be completely unlikeable. And since the POV alternates between the two, allowing us to see inside their heads, it's revealed that the other guy KNOWS he's an asshole. Which, as far as redeeming features go, is better than nothing.

Sometimes Javi was such a prick it was hard to share his head with himself.

And really there's a

It's mystery time...

"Bone To Pick' is my first time with a story by author T.A. Moore and seriously you can just color me impressed. I have to admit that being new to this author I had no idea what to expect so while I like the familiar as much as the next person...which, I did get that because hey, Michael Fell, narrated this one and he's quickly becoming a fav of mine when it comes to audio book narrators.

I saw in another review that this book is the start of a series and YAY for that because damn! The author leaves us hanging at the end!

The mystery, which was very interesting and the main focus of this story, is solved at the end but our two MCs?? I wouldn't even call what they have there a HFN. The longer I listened to the book, the more I was worried when they both would open up about their feelings and I was afraid of the "I love you"s being too rushed towards the end. But there

Darum geht's:

This book is a sample of why I have a shelf titled “Partridge Family Related”, because you know the chorus to their famous song…

“I think I love you so what am I so afraid of
I'm afraid that I'm not sure of a love there is no cure for
I think I love you isn't that what life is made of
Though it worries me to say that I never felt this way”

Yup. It’s one of those books and I’ll state it here, we don’t end with an HEA but we do end with a very strong HFN that after a couple books, I am comin

Bone to Pick is an excellent police thriller with some really interesting characters. I was totally engrossed in the case and Javi and Cloister (and Bourneville’s) race against time to find Drew and figure out who is behind the kidnapping. The case is twisty and the pacing is spot on, keeping things interesting and intense. I’ll admit, I did figure out the who pretty early on, but the how an

Ugh. What is it?

Easier to say what it's not. It's not a romance. It's not erotica. It's not PWP. It's not really even a police procedural. It is kind of a whodunit and that's about it. No relationship, no HFN (not even close), no ... just no.

It was well written, it was interesting, but damn if I can figure out just what it was supposed to be.

Hmph.

This is my first book by T.A. Moore and it certainly won’t be my last. Cloister Witte and Javi Merlo are such intriguing characters and the suspense is absorbing and complex. It’s also a police procedural that felt genuine and accurate, with a character driven plot. POV’s from both MC’s is always my preference and thank goodness, because both Cloister (fab name!) and Javi are very enigmatic characters. The suspense plot initially seemed straightforward but quickly expanded and the two are faced ...more

This was first and foremost a mystery, with two gay investigators who work together and fuck each other occasionally. No romance or more tender feelings, and one of the MC's is quite an unsympathetic character. But regardless of those niggles, I enjoyed the book a lot for the following two reasons:
1. The dog is AWESOME!! Really. I could read about Bourneville all day.
2. The mystery is quite competent, with enough twists and turns to keep me interested.
3. The little bit of Man-on-Man action was

I was lucky enough to win an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When I read the blurb of this book I knew I was going to read it, whether I got an ARC or not, as a lover of crime, dogs and tension it was on my reading list.

Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed, as somebody who can read through the worst drivel if the character is lively and engaging that was the one and only area this book fell down on, characters.

The plot was intriguing, the writer's style left you wanting to turn the page a

I'm not entirely sure how to classify Bone to Pick if I'm honest. M/M romantic suspense? Though I can't say I experienced a lot of suspense or found any romance elements while reading it. Well, there's fucking, but it isn't exactly romantic. The sex between the two heroes felt like more of an alternative to punching each other out than anything else. If you're the kind of romance reader who expects a clear cut HEA, Bone to Pick might not be for you. In fact, it's just weird enough to even skirt ...more

I'm lucky to win an early copy of this book from the author and it just gripped me from start to finish. Cloister and Bourneville (he calls her Bon Bon off-dutty. How cute, right!) are just too endearing pair of characters. Heck, I even grudgingly liked Javi Merlo, although more often than not I want to bash him for the way he acted.

Bone to Pick is set in Plenty, San Diego and revolving around missing child that connected to other disappearances within the span of ten years. Complicat

Not bad. I like the mystery, but wasn't so sold on the "romance." Mostly because Javi is a snobbish jackass and I couldn't stand the fucker. Seriously, I would say I wanted Bourneville to bite off his dick, but that seems like cruel and unusual punishment to what by all accounts seems to be a rather awesome dog.

The fact is that this would have been somewhere near 4.5 stars if one of the MCs didn't have me actually cheering on the bad guys to take his ass down a peg or two. But as it is, I think

This was an excellent mystery. I did figure it out early on, as to who did it, but not why. The why was tragic. The clues were cleverly laid, and the characterisation of all the participants was well done. Both main characters stayed firmly inside the character parameters set for them, however, as both of them are reticent, stoic and somewhat antisocial, I feel I didn't get any real, sympathetic insight into either of them. Not that I disliked them, only that I didn't get a chance to know them. ...more

Bone to Pick is a mystery involving a missing child. What was originally thought to be just a singular case turns into a serial killer case as the FBI and Police follow the clues to find the missing boy. This is not a romance. I have such mixed feelings about this book…I’ll see if I can’t bring some coherency to my thoughts.

This was definitely a different style of m/m romance, in that there IS no romance. Javi has a strict policy of not screwing where he works, but for some reason makes an exception for Cloister. Cloister thinks Javi is an asshole, but hey, if he’s going to get some action, can’t be too picky, right? There are some feelings involved, but they are buried so deeply that I don’t think even Bourneville c

Really excellent mystery – the first thing you notice is the atmosphere; you can feel the heat, the hot dry winds blasting down and sucking the life out of everyone. It is a secondary character in the story, that oppressive heat beating down on the people, the town, the investigation.

**4.5 stars** audiobook edition

This is a highly enjoyable, very-difficult-to-solve mystery adventure. Both MCs have issues with relationships so though they don’t want romance, they do have sexual chemistry and they act on it. Plus, there’s a dog—a police dog named Bo—who stole the show, as far as I’m concerned.

Children have gone missing over the past ten years, not often enough or apparently connected enough for anyone to link them until the recent disappearance of a ten-year-old boy. FBI agen

As a small child TA Moore genuinely believed that she was a Cabbage Patch Kid and no-one had told her. This was the start of a lifelong attachment to the weird and fantastic. These days she lives in Northern Ireland and her friends have a rule that she can only send them three weird and disturbing links a day (she still holds that a DIY penis bifurcation guide is interesting, not disturbing).
