This book was the outcome of the first Scottish Summer School in Archaeology which was held in Dundee, 1952. The five scholars set out to define the various aspects of Pictish study then known, combining archaeology, philology and history at an authoritative, masterly but essentially readable level. Archaeology; fortifications; houses and graves; Pictish Art; the Pictish language.
A bit outdated now, but that is just what Wainwright would have wanted. The study of Pictish graves and settlement sites has moved forward since Wainwright's time, but there are still many more questions (ie 'Problems') that remain to be answered.
