Dollycas’s Thoughts

Talk about a whirlwind of emotions, I had to get a box of Kleenex for this amazing cozy story. I read this story while Hurricane Irma was hitting Florida too. I am keeping everyone affected by the storms in my prayers.

The story begins with Dalton and Marla learning that their friends Tally and Ken are missing when they receive a call from the babysitter. They quickly go to pick up the baby and Dalton reports the parents as missing. Then Marla receives a call from the hospital

Another exciting book in the A Bad Hair Day Mystery series of books by author Nancy Cohen. The story is engaging, sad, frightening and hopeful as Marla Vail's friends, Ken and Tally, are in a car accident and Marla attains temporary custody of their young son Luke. As Dalton and Marla try to find out what happened, things seem to be way more involved than first thought. The author had me reading as fast as I could so I could find out how everything would evolve. I was kept mesmerized as I kept t ...more

**THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS**

I was so excited that this series could continue, despite being cancelled earlier in the year. Marla finds herself taking care of young Luke, Tally and Ken's baby after there is a bad car accident claiming one of their lives and putting the other in the hospital unconscious. Marla and Dalton are hard at work trying to solve the case and learning some surprising things about their friends along the way. Marla is enjoying taking care of Luke and is contemplating what life

Marla and Dalton Vail make an awesome husband and wife sleuthing team. Even though Dalton is a cop, he is investigating a crime that is not in his jurisdiction in this story. Marla has a very personal and legitimate reason to get involved in this mystery. Her best friend Tally is injured in a car accident, where she and her husband Ken were forced off the road. Ken was killed, Tally is in a coma. Because Marla is the legal guardian for their son as well as having Power of Attorney, she is not ta ...more

“Hair Brained” earns 5/5 Suspects, Secrets, and Diaper Changes!

Another Great Mystery

I love following Marla and her investigations. Dalton and his daughter have definitely added to the mysteries. Easy read but keeps your interest.

Wow! This was a really great read! Marla and Dalton make a wonderful team. Most stories do not have a cop being helped by a loved one. Even though this is Marla wanting to investigate Tally's accident Dalton is right there investigating. I like how it shows some realistic dimensions to both of their professional lives; concerns about doing a good job professionally, doing what's right and having a life of their own. This book is believable, well-written and well-developed. The storyline is fast- ...more

If you like Nancy J. Cohen's stories about Marla and Dalton, you'll enjoy this one too. What I particularly liked about this one is that Marla has a very personal and legitimate reason to embroil herself in learning what happened to her friend Tally. I also like that Dalton works with Marla and they don't bicker about her involvement in this case. In fact, for part of the story, Dalton's just as much an 'amateur sleuth' as Marla. A nice set-up! I also like that part of the story explores issues ...more

If you are expecting something light and fluffy focusing on women and salons, you will soon find that there is much more to any investigation Marla dives into.
Her close friend Tally is in an auto accident along with her husband, Ken. Tragically he did not survive and Tally is in a coma, with only a 50 percent chance to live. The only bright side is that their very young son was not in the vehicle.

Hair Brained is the 14th entry in Nancy J. Cohen’s Bad Hair Day Mystery series. I saw another review that said this is the best yet – and without a doubt that is true. These books just keep getting better and better: well-developed characters in believable relationships, enough quirkiness to make you chuckle (when Marla thinks, “Holy highlights!), and fast-paced mysteries that will keep you turning pages, worrying about Marla, and guessing until the very end. Each book can be read as a standalon ...more

It is hard to believe that Hair Brained is the 14th book in Nancy J. Cohen's Bad Hair Day Mystery series. I will admit I have not read all of the books in this series....but it doesn't matter !! This is the 2nd book in the series that I have read and it reads like it could be a stand alone book.

In Hair Brained there is so much going on that you get lost in Marla and Dalton's lives instantly. As they deal with the death of their good friend Ken, Ken's wife's injuries and caring for their newborn

A Roller Coaster Ride!

Hair Brained kicked off with a bang. It captured my attention & kept it from beginning to end. There were so many plot threads dangling & as the plot thickened they became more & more entangled. Marla finds herself forced to make many decisions for both her friend & for herself that may very well be life changing. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in this series to see what impact all of these changes have on Marla, her family, & her friend.

This book is full of twists and turns. I loved it that you didn't know who the killer was until the very end. Marla is a fabulous sleuth and sends us down a suspenseful trail of clues and red herrings. I especially enjoyed the relationship she has with Dalton and his daughter and her concern for her dear friend Tally and Tally's adorable baby Luke. The baby brings out a different side of Marla we haven't seen before. I found it quite endearing and highly recommend this book.

You would think that at one point or another a series would fade, or perhaps the characters would grow a bit boring no matter how wonderful they’ve been over the years. Yet, even though this is book #14 in this particular series, The Bad Hair Day Mysteries show no signs of ever becoming faded or boring. In fact, it seems like each one that hits the shelves offers up another breath of fresh air in the mystery realm.
This time around, an emotional story plays out when hairstylist Marla Vail’s best

Marla and Dalton have been struggling with the idea of having a baby---he wants one, she doesn't---so it's fortuitous, if unhappily, that Marla takes guardianship of her best friend Tally's four-month-old son when Tally and her husband, Ken, go missing. Having little Luke around might give their dilemma a bit of clarity but the reason for his presence is ominous.

Marla had already been thinking that Tally had recently been a little reserved and uncommunicative as though there was something she wa
