Lauren's writing is an eloquent and sophisticated beast which takes the prejudices women faced in the late 1800s and force feeds it to you. Her story tells the truth of the sort of dependence women back then had to face, and the fears they shared if they found themselves without someone with which to put that dependence.

Brokenly Live On has a strong foundation built out of intrigue, desperation, grief, romance, and mystery, and tells the story of one Clara Deveroux. Clara's story begins slow wi

Really liked this book! I picked it up without much time to dedicate to it but used my first free afternoon to read it straight through. Couldn't put it down - very well written and fast paced. I enjoyed the descriptive qualities, it was enough to give you a sense of place but not overdone. I also liked the characters immediately and the twists and turns their stories took. I'd definitely recommend it if you like historical fiction with mystery and romance.

When I was asked if I would like to be an advance reader of Brokenly Live On by its author, Lauren Sobka, I was thrilled. All she asked in return was for brutal honesty about what I thought and to review it if I so wished. My initial excitement soon gave way to doubt- what if I didn’t like it? It’s one thing to review a book negatively on a third party platform, it’s another thing entirely to tell the author you don’t like the work she’s dedicated her life to, and poured her entire heart and sou ...more

Brokenly Live On delves into the difficult and exacerbating trials and tribulations that a young woman experiences as she searches for understanding and acceptance of circumstances that appear to be beyond her control. This visually appealing period-piece is set in the French countryside in the 1800s and is written from an unusual and interesting perspective. The main character as well as the supporting characters all serve a specific purpose in this story, and the characters are well-developed ...more

I love historical fiction and this was a very enjoyable read. This novel is a charming, engrossing tale of love, loss, betrayal and family secrets. I found it very entertaining and I loved Clara the main character, who endures many hardships throughout the story. You will find yourself rooting for Clara to just catch a break. I was sorry to finish it and wanted to know more about the main characters, Clara and Alain and how their story plays out after such a long separation. Maybe there will be ...more
