I'M GOING TO START BURNING STUFF SOON TO RELEASE THE SEXUAL TENSION!
SIDE NOTE: I feel Veronica become proud of me everytime I convince someone to read the book and OMG I've gotten so many people into it! Ga!
It feels like I've been waiting forever for this book, especially since it's been over a year since I read the previous book, but now the publication date is close to being in sight!
Finally! A title and synopsis to my favorite and truthfully only non-YA mystery/historical fiction series I follow. Can't wait to be reunited with my precious crime-solving duo =D
Anyhow, this is a favorite series of mine, I was quite looking forward to reading it and I loved to once again step into Veronica and ...more
I loved this book! I think that this series just keeps getting better and better. The characters are so well done and I love the chemistry between Veronica and Stoker. I thought the mystery in this book was quite good and I liked that the story touched on the crimes of Jack the Ripper.
ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley. Full review to be posted soon.
I will write a proper review closer to the March 10, 2020 publication date. Thank you Berkley and Edelweiss for this advance copy. And thank you Deanna Raybourn for writing my first favorite book of 2020.
First off, I want to start with how much I sincerely love Veronica and Stoker; their slow-burn romance has had me on edge for 4 books! To say that this is a couple who ...more
My husband said to me, "You know Kari- you may want to savor it since you'll have to wait a long time until the next book is published. And, well . . . I love you, but patience really isn't your strong suit." Well- listening to him wasn't my strong suit ...more
As far as the actual murder plot goes, I don’t think this one could live up to #4 for me (my favorite), but the overarching story being told had my heart. This one meandered a little more and I ultimately felt like it had a harder time coming together, but come together it still ...more
Loved it so much! But I have a sneaking suspicion this might be the last book in the series because of those last paragraphs in the book (knock on wood I'm wrong).
Veronica and Stoker. What more can I say that hasn't been said about these two?
Their relationship has been developing for four books, now five. After the ending of book four, we know what they're ready for. We already know they loved each other, but they're also the most stubborn people we've met.
But the time isn't right to ...more
That being said, A MURDEROUS RELATION isn't my favorite installment in the series (I could have done very well without all the brothel scenes, thank you very much), but it's still a compelling novel that is exciting, funny, and enjoyable. If you've liked the series so far, you will like this one as well - just be warned ...more
I tend to not like the story line revolving around the royal family. Its more than I can suspend disbelief of. However, I didn't hate this as much as with the second book.
I actually came to like Eddy.
I am very happy about the progress with their relationship although it still a long time to get to. Honestly after the harrowing events of the fourth book I really wanted to see more of the relationship blossom and possibly more ...more
I absolutely loved this book. It's one of my 2020 most anticipated. The relationship balance between Stoker and Veronica is good as ever. This is my second fav of the veronica speedwell series, I think I expected a little bit more from the Jack the Ripper side and that's the only reason it's not a 5.
My profuse thanks to Deanna Raybourn, Berkley Publishing Group, and NetGalley for allowing me to read a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
No major spoilers, but I might have let a few minor ones slip through.
This book was awesome. If I hadn’t had a prior commitment last night, I’d have inhaled this book in one day. After reading the very first line—“‘What in the name of flaming Hades do you mean his lordship wants me to officiate at the wedding of a tortoise?’”—honest ...more
By Deanna Raybourn
Berkley/Penguin Random House, 320 pages
Gardeners know that veronica–also known as speedwell or gypsyweed–is a splashy, spiky perennial. Deanna Raybourn’s Veronica Speedwell is also colorful and spiky, if by the second term we mean opinionated, edgy, and unconventional. Those who have followed the adventures of Miss Speedwell also know that she is the half-sister of Prince Albert Victor, heir to the English throne. A Murderous Relation is ...more
Veronica Speedwell investigating Jack the Ripper and the possible royal connections to the crimes? That sounded incredibly interesting to me, and despite the fact that I haven't been a huge fan of this series in the past, I was eager to read this book. Veronica and her faithful "partner" Stoker are drawn into helping her half-brother Eddy out of a royal scandal with ties to the Ripper murders that have been rocking London. There is a masquerade at a questionable ...more
