Lacey hasn't been living, so much as surviving, for months now. Getting picked off the street and held hostage by greedy and dangerous men wasn't part of her travel plans. Since no one could meet the ransom demands on her, she's had to find an alternative way to stay on her captor's good graces. Calming down other hostages and getting them to comply, is both necessary but also guilt consuming. Day in and day out, Lacey battles with her own moral compass.

Shane and his team of professional mercenaries are doing a routine hostage extraction. Still harboring guilt over his last mission and the mistake that almost cost him, his friend's life, Shane is desperately clinging to the job, the only thing he's lived for for years now. His mission is Lacey's godsend, it's her last chance to get as far away as she can from this band of criminals. She's done and seen things she can never forget, but she vows to make them pay for their crimes.

When she reveals a body cam she wore the first couple of weeks she'd been taken, has hard evidence against the men that took her, Lacey becomes a target. What follows is a gritty fast paced race to get Lacey's video footage to the authorities before the baddies catch up to her and silence her once and for all.

What I liked/loved about it:
Shane was definitely the strong and silent type. Since enlisting in the military at 18 and making a career of following orders, his a soldier, through and through. Watching him fall for free spirited Lacey was cute. They were such opposites but somehow they just meshed together and made sense.

I thought they were great together. I loved that Shane never doubted his feelings or tried to down play what he felt for Lacey. That was refreshing, a strong H who knows what he wants and goes after it.

Lacey was a good heroine but there were times that I felt her actions were too rash (borderline tstl). When you're running for your life and bad guys with guns and no scruples, maybe be more cautious of your surroundings. There were a few too many times when she questioned the guys decisions when it came to security and protective measures. I've never been in mortal danger, but I've watched enough TV to know that if I claim to have incriminating evidence of a criminal group, maybe take the threat against my life serious and don't make things harder for the people that are putting their lives on the line to protect me. Just saying.

What I didn't like:
Lacey was a bit wishy washy with her back and forth dilemma with herself about what should or wouldn't happen with Shane and what she was feeling for him. Usually the h knows that she has feelings for the H and it's the H that fights it. Lacey is actually the one to waffle between wanting to want Shane and rejecting him for trying to tie her down. Her inner struggle was supposed to be angsty but it sometimes came off as emotionally cold and a bit selfish.

Would I recommend?
It was an engaging read and would recommend to those that enjoy a heavier dose of suspense and action in their romance.

This was a decent thriller with some unconventional motivations, but all-in-all it was a pretty straight-forward romance between a damaged soldier and a feisty woman.

This is part of a bigger series, with lots of teammates to lead each story. I may read more of these, but not right away.

ARC REVIEW

The first in Sidney Bristol's spinoff series Aegis Group Team One, it follows you guessed it Alpha Team One the best of the best in the Aegis group. Their latest mission is to rescue a newlywed couple who were kidnapped on their honeymoon in Jamaica. The team rushes in and not only do they find the couple they are looking for but another American woman being held hostage. Their escape off the island is postponed as a tropical storm sets in.

Lacey is a travel blogger and her life is on the body cam she just barely managed to get back before the rescue. Now with everything she recorded about her kidnappers she has enough to put them away for a really long time and also images of the person really behind the newlyweds kidnapping. Lacey also has just painted a target on her back. It's up to Shane and the rest of his team to keep her safe until they can get everything to the FBI.

This opposites attract action packed story is awesome! Sidney's active setting is so great it was like I was right there with them in rainy Jamaica. The character development is pretty good too, both Shane and Lacey have baggage they need to deal with and being together helps them sort out all the past hurts and creates a strong bond between them. The bad guy you almost want to feel sorry for until he acts like an ass again.

Overall, I loved this book and I can't wait for more Aegis Alpha Team One hotness.

Very cute, but not overdone

Love the chemistry between Shane and Lacey. He kept her grounded and she made him want to live outside of the box. And the sex Lord it was done so well not an easy feat with some authors. Sometimes authors make me want to roll my eyes but not this one. I loved how to match each other jab for jab.

After the fourth book by this author obtained as a set, I'm about Sidney Bristol'ed out. At least in this one, she waited until Chapter 7 to get to the first racy sex scene.

This book has some technical flaws: typos, incorrect grammar, mostly. An editor is in order.

Some of the cast of characters are familiar from previous encounters of the Aegis Group kind. This time, I find the premise questionable: crime boss turned to kidnapping and demanding ransom to pay for his child's medical treatment. But but but… If he's such a big kingpin, why doesn't his crime pay for that? Oh well… inquiring minds might want to know, but the short answer seems to be because it wouldn't make any of the rest of the plot work.

So, boy is on a mission with his buds to rescue a couple and end up rescuing this world-traveling vlogger as well. He thinks she's a PITA, but naturally falls right in love with her. Pursued by the kidnapper who follows them all the way from Jamaica back to the U.S. (and why isn't he on a no fly list or at least tagged when he clears Customs as all inbound travelers must do, even those on private planes), the various trials and tribulations lead to the inevitable end where boy and girl are now making a life together. Except for the occasional steamy sex scene, it could be a Harlequin Romance.

Shane York is an ex Seal who works for the Aegis Group. This Group is made up of ex military who work for clients to rescue kidnapped individuals. They are sent to Jamaica to rescue a couple. When they go in, there is another individual there that was kidnapped, Lacey Miles. They rescue her also and take off. She had a small camera attached to her as she was a videographer that went around the world and had a website. She had videoed some of her time while kidnapped and had the faces of the men and some of the deals they made. The leader, Marcos, was after them to kill Lacey as get the video.

Shane was a good guy that wanted to help people and was pretty serious. Lacey didn’t feel like her family cared about her and she was just a screw up. She had the urge to travel all the time. The two were attracted to each other. I liked how Lacey got Shane to chill out some and open his eyes to other job possibilities. I enjoy books with action, suspense, and romance which this book had. I encourage you to read it.

Travel vlogger Lacey Miles has been held captive by Marcos for over six weeks in Jamaica and when it appears someone has finally arrived to save another couple she makes the decision to help any way she can to assist in getting the other couple away as well as saving herself. But getting away is only the beginning when Marcos finds out Lacey has damning evidence that could send him to prison. Now he's even more determined to get her back at any cost.

Aegis Group's tactical officer Shane York and his team have arrived in Jamaica on a hostage rescue mission to retrieve a newlywed couple kidnapped on their honeymoon. What he didn't expect was meeting the unexpected eyes of another woman in a window and realizing this mission now includes saving an additional hostage. This ex SEAL leaves no one behind. Somehow, connected in a way neither can understand, these two complete opposits can't fight the attraction between them for long. But when a mercenary is backed into a corner, desperation will lead to twists and turns that kept this reader up late into the night to finish this book.

Sidney Bristol does it again! It seems like each time I ready one of her books, I think it must be the best one yet. Then I read another and think the same thing. But, this is the best one yet.

Shane and Lacey make the most unlikely pair, and yet, the most perfect pair. I loved the stereotypical release reversal. Shane was the one afraid of being hurt when Lacey decided to leave him, while Lacey was afraid to make a commitment. But, love makes us do things we never thought we'd do, so Shane and Lacey take a chance.

As with most (all) Sidney Bristol novels, there’s plenty of action, suspense, intrigue, and nail-biting. Thankfully, graphic details are left to the imagination, which I think is more effective anyway. I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. Do I recommend this book? Absolutely!

Know your locations

A book set in Jamaica, I had to read it. The story was okay but I deducted major points for the lack of knowledge about the island. A little research could have solved this problem.
First up, the name of the town is Ocho Rios. Not Ochi Rios. Locals abbreviate it to Ochie.
Second, Ochie is on the north coast, Kingston is on the south coast. She writes they are traveling north from Ochie to Kingston. Considering the town is on the coast, they would have ended up in the Caribbean on the way to Cuba by going north. Then they turn around and head south to Montego. It’s Montego Bay or MoBay and it’s west of Ochie.
I love when my homeland is used as a backdrop but get the names and geography right. Don’t like the stereotype of corrupt cops, lax security and ganja smoking (at least it was the Americans lighting up).

Dangerous In Love by Sidney Bristol is a phenomenal romantic suspense. Ms. Bristol has delivered a well-written book and furnished it with outstanding, lovable characters. Lacey is a free spirit backpacking and video blogging her adventure when she is kidnapped. Shane is part of the Aegis Group and his team is tasked with the job of rescuing a married couple. When they find Lacey with the couple, they rescue her also. Shane and Lacey's story is packed with drama, action, humor, suspense and sexy bits. I enjoyed every page of this fantastic book and look forward to reading more from Sidney Bristol in the future. Dangerous In Love is book 1 of the Aegis Group Alpha Team Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Overall I found the story interesting and entertaining, but there were a few things that bugged me:

1. Spelling, grammar, tense mistakes and sentences and dialogue that didn’t quite make sense. It also made things confusing

2. Injuries received were ignored later on in the story (People don’t heal overnight). There was also very little explanation on the characters mental wellbeing after the fact.

3. The relationship’s development seemed a little weird, and I can’t quite pin point why. Maybe it was the pace?

4. The (what I thought was blindingly) OBVIOUS was ignored during the progress of the plot. I mean people aren’t that blind, right? I could see the writing on the wall from well before midway through.

I obtained this free e-book from Amazon and I am voluntarily writing a review. Lacey is a travel blogger in Jamaica and has been kidnapped by mercenaries. No on in her family is able to pay the ransom and she is kept in captivity wearing a collar bomb. Shane work for Aegis Group on their Alpha Team which rescues kidnapped victims and returns them to their wealthy families. He is on an rescue op for a wealthy newlywed couple and during the snatch and grab he sees Lacey and rescues her too. Only problem is during her captivity Lacey video taped her kidnapping and many others along with the identities of the mercenaries and the client ordering the kidnapping and now they want her dead.

4.5 - first time with this author. really liked her style. the fast paced suspense left you knowing it would end well, but still trying to figure out where the next "boogeyman" is coming from, and then nail biting until he came. liked that their love - hate relationship started out strong and abruptly, as that is their personalities, but it was also built up on trust, safety, care, and human emotions. like the sadness, the anger, the hopelessness, ...... the lust. (holy hotness = the truck scene)

how I know it was good and involving story ...... because when she was finally able to take a shower, I felt the relief and cleanliness with her. lol

Great romantic suspense

The action kept me reading as one bad situation went to worse and just when I thought things were under control something else happened to send them off again. I enjoyed the fact that it was the heroine that didn't want to settle down, putting an interesting twist on what is usually the guy's problem. Shane and Lacey were both set in their way of life and it was great watching them learn they both could change a little to be good together. Very satisfying ending.

Not the adventure she was expecting.

Lacey traveled all over the world writing what she saw and did. Unfortunately, she is in the wrong place in Jamaica and is kidnapped off the street and held for ransom. Meanwhile, Shane and the Aegis team he works for, are hired to rescue a couple that have been kidnapped off their boat and are being held for ransom. While rescuing the couple, Shane discovers Lacey is also being held and he helps her escape. But why are the kidnappers so focused on getting Lacey when there was no one willing to pay the ransom demand for her freedom?

This is the first novel in the Aegis Group Alpha Team series. Sidney's books just keep getting better and better. This book was so well written with strong characters and a captivating storyline. You'll fall in love with Shane and Lacey. They're opposites, but as they say – opposites attract. The chemistry between them is great. No shortage of drama, action or suspense in this book. A great read. I received an advance copy and voluntarily chose to review.

I loved this story & my heart just melted for Shane. How can you resist a strong, alpha guy who loves like that? I found it an interesting turnaround to have the hero being unsure & in self-protection mode, who's seemingly happy with adventure just being part of the job & the rest of life being settled & sedentary. As this is a spin-ff from the Aegis series, don't worry if you didn't read any of them, this starts fresh & it's a great new series opener.

Romantic suspense

This is a fairly good romantic suspense, but both main characters just had too much angst for me. I felt that more time could have been spent in the beginning explaining the motivations of Marcos. It would have helped with understanding why a pharmaceutical CEO was targeted. I also felt at times some of the reactions of all the team members and the victims were all over the place and not always realistic. Overall a decent, fun read for a quiet afternoon.

Not spicy

The cover and title makes you think sex. Instead it should be a Harlequin Suspense cover because this is an action book. The pacing is good and the characters are all more than sketches, but it's mediocre at best. You just don't feel the danger or the love unfolding. Instead it feels like an action movie with the unlikable hero and his wisecracking sidekick. Except without Lacey everyone would be clueless.

Great book

This book keeps you on your toes from start to finish. Lacey is a spit fire ready to go and her attraction for Shane is mutual. The actipn from Jamica to Atlanta keeps you on the edge of your seat. Also trying to figure who the really bad guy is. I advise youbto sit back and enjoy the ride

great first book in the series

Interesting and intricate twists kept me on the edge of my seat while I read this opposites attract romantic suspense shifter novel. With likable and realistic characters and a well written plot, I would recommend this book to anyone who likes military/alpha hero’s and strong, courageous heroines who both have moments of self-doubt but who overcome those together.

Good.

The story keeps your attention and the action pretty much starts from page one. Lacey is saved from her kidnappers along with the couple that are the actual clients. From there the target on her back just gets bigger and bigger......... There’s guns, action and ex-SEALs to keep you sitting and reading.

Good Read

Dangerous in Love is an interesting story. That said, the reading is interrupted by several errors. Having to stop and reread to see what should have been printed minimizes a readers enjoyment. Better proofreading is needed.

Very disappointed.

I really like Sidney Bristol books, but this one was beyond frustrating. At least one third of the book was blank pages, with big gaps in the story. Makes me uneasy to buy another book in the series. I'm just glad this book was free.

This seemed to be an exciting, action filled book, however, I had some trouble concentrating on the story a bit. It seemed to be a bit too exaggerated, I think.

I read this story as a part of the Dangerous Firsts - A Collection of First-In-Series Novels boxset...
