Sweet, sexy, fun and playful!!! Marquita Valentine once again hooks her readers to fall for her characters as she sweeps readers away with this charming love story that puts a fun twist on older brother’s best friend romance.
Aiden McHugh has always had feeling for his best friend’s younger sister. He kept his feelings for her to himself and so when Layton’s marriage goes wrong, he suddenly finds himself with the opportunity to get her and this time he doesn’t want to find himself being on the sidelined.
The humiliation of having your husband leaving you for the wedding planner on your honeymoon is something Layton has to deal with and so when she sets her eyes on Aiden, she was only expecting this would be something for fun to get over her troubles but what she didn’t expect was Aiden was playing for keeps.
Sidelined was an utterly adorable sweet and funny love story that had all the charms that one would expect of Marquita Valentine to implement in her books. I loved that the hero was not a playboy and didn’t want to be the rebound guy but the ONLY GUY in Layton’s life. So if you are looking for a sweet playful romance then look no further than this book.

This is way better than Scored!!!
La historia de Layton y Aiden es mucho mejor que la de Dallas y Paige. IMHO anyway.
Aiden esta enamorado hace años de la hermana de su mejor amigo, y ella a su vez ha estado prácticamente toda su vida en una relación con Joe, en Scored vimos como ella y joe se casan; pero el abandona en su luna de miel alegando que se enamoró de su wedding planner. Al principio Aiden se niega a ser el sex revenge de LT pero después va con todo por ella. Me gusto mucho, muy entretenido, se lee super rápido; un día me duro, y Aiden es un amor, imposible no terminar enamorada de el.

Sidelined es la segunda lectura que leo de Marquita Valentine y narra la historia de Layton y Aiden, personajes secundarios en otro de los libros de la autora.
Si empece esta historia fue porque en Scored quede muy intrigada por saber mas de estos personajes, su relacion me resulto muy divertida y deseaba saber como pasarian de ser amigos a enamorarse y aunque no puedo decir que esta novela me decepcionara, si tengo que reconocer que me falto algo mas para que se volviera memorable.
Personalmente eche en falta que determinadas escenas tuvieran un desarrollo mas profundo, tampoco me agrado del todo que tuviera algunos saltos temporales, sentia como si me hubieran faltado escenas por leer, ademas dichos saltos eran demasiado abruptos.
La personalidad de los protagonistas tampoco me parecio 100% verosimil y en mi opinion eso es debido a que a Layton y Aiden les falta mas profundidad, la autora apenas los desarrolla y quedan como unos personajes planos y demasiado simples.
En resumen, Sidelined no es una mala novela, es bastante amena y apenas tiene drama, pero podria haber sido mucho mejor si la escritora se hubiera tomado el tiempo de profundizar mas en la trama y en los personajes.

Aiden has always been in love with her but when he saw she was interested in Joe, he treated her like a piece of crap, never trying to steal her heart but always trying to break it... Blah bla bla... Do you need more?

I struggled with this title, which I was a little bummed about, as I loved the premise, the cover and the blurb.
The premise was good. The idea of using a friend, the guy you have known since you were a young girl as a way to get over your ex and move on. We have all been there, recovering from a heartbreak makes you assess the other options you have in your life.
But, for me, there was not enough time for the "recovery". And this is where it was unbalanced for me. I get that Aiden and Layton had been friends since she was a young girl, but Layton has had a certain plan for her life this whole time. And, while I believe that things were going to eventually get to the point that she would be able to put her ex behind her, I didn't believe the attraction to Aiden was strong enough for her to do it so quickly.
But, and this is where the plot of this one lost me, there was little chemistry with them and he has a "I don't have sex during the season" rule, and the book started in October. So, I was not quite sure where I wanted this to go, or where it was going to go. But, I can say I didn't love the part of getting there with the characters.
I was disengaged from the romance in this story. I liked the characters, but I didn't buy them together.
I wanted there to be a connection, but the timeline in the book made the connection a tough sell for me and I wasn't really ever able to feel invested in the story or the characters.

If there's one thing I know for sure, it's that Marquita will definitely bring the laughs. And she definitely did not disappoint with Sidelined.
From the moment Layton was a little girl, she had her whole future planned out. She knew she was going to marry Joe, her friend since they were little kids. She knew how old she was going to be when said wedding happened. Nothing could go wrong with her plans, it was written in her binder so it was set in stone. But what Layton didn't see coming was that Joe, her now husband would leave her just days into their honeymoon. With this revelation, Layton will now have to deal with the aftermath of her once happily ever after ending before even starting.
Aiden had always seen Layton as his best friends pesky little sister. But as the years went on and with Layton all grown up, Aiden started seeing her as more. He started developing feelings, but he had to lock them away. And now more than ever because Layton was off limits and about to get married. But when Layton's marriage fails, now is Aiden's time to tell her how he feels. He just hopes he's not making a mistake.
What I really enjoyed was the fact that Aiden was the one who wanted more. He wasn't the womanizing type to just take women to bed, and be done with them. He was kind, attentive and a genuinely good person. He cared about Layton to the point that he was going to wait until she was ready to give them a chance. And when that time came I had the biggest smile on my face. Layton and Aiden were so good together. They made me laugh, swoon and I couldn't get enough.
I can't wait for Kingston's book!!! I'm so excited to get more of these characters! *happy dance*

Aiden surprises you at every turn in this most anticipated book of mine. Geeze, who wouldn't want the cocky QB from South Boston? I would be his Hoodsie at anytime.
Layton was dealt a whopping one two blow but a little tough love and push from friends had her leaving the past there in less time than she thought. I enjoyed her growth and chase of Aiden from beginning to end. As for Joe, Bless His Heart for knowing how to swim...

For as long as Aiden McHugh has known Layton Price her life has been mapped out. Always armed with her scrapbook, if you were in her scrapbook you were special, if it’s in her scrapbook it’s destined to happen. According to the scrapbook, Layton was going to marry Joe and if not then Aiden would come to her rescue her and marry her.
Fast forward and Layton has married Joe, but on their honeymoon Joe informs Layton that he’s in love with the wedding planner. Where does that leave Layton, besides embarrassed and humiliated? Right on Aiden’s doorstep holding him to his part of the bargain; Layton needs to get over Joe and fast so while she’s not looking for Aiden to marry her, she’s most definitely looking for him to be the rebound guy to help her move beyond Joe but rumor has it that the NFL Quarterback is celibate during the season. Well that’s just too damned bad for him because Layton, (or LT as Aiden calls her …..sooooo freaking adorable!!), needs him to be active to help her get over Joe. She’s always thought Aiden was good looking but she was so far up Joe’s butt she never realized HOW hot he was. All she knows is that for the last few years he’s been a total jerk to her and treating her like a pesky little sister but the thoughts she’s having about Aiden are not those that a little sister would have. Unfortunately for Layton, Aiden is not interested in being the rebound guy; he wants to be THE GUY.
To Aiden, LT has always been his best friend’s little sister, but one day she turned into a full blown hot blooded woman. In order to keep her at a distance and keep him from doing something that her brother would probably kill him for, he basically resorted to acting like a jerk towards her. Now she’s hitting him with this proposition and completely messing with his head. For years he watched her fawn all over a guy that was totally wrong for her, then he sat back and watched her marry him. He let her get away from him once and now this could be his second chance but he has to convince LT that he more than just a rebound guy, he’s a long term guy and the perfect guy for her.
Short, sweet, to the point….LOVED IT!
From the first word in this book I was hooked. There was immediate connection to the characters. The banter, even between young Layton and young Aiden, was perfect! The humor was there in spades. Coming off the heels of “Scored” (Dallas’ and Paige’s story), Sidelined keeps the train going with fun, hotness and laughs. I loved Dallas and Paige and even said they were my new favorite Marquita characters, but I don’t know. Aiden and Layton might have surpassed them. Aiden with his rough South Boston persona was so freaking sweet; and Layton was freaking adorable and funny as hell.
Poor Aiden didn’t stand a chance against her feistiness, even when she was eleven! This was quick, fun read. Sometimes there are blossoming relationships and there’s no angst, no tragedy, no major catastrophes…there’s just circumstances with fun and humor and that’s what this was. It was fun and sometimes that just what we need. There were a few down moments like Aiden describing his childhood with his father, but for the most part this read was light on drama.
I wished there’d been a little more in the storyline about Aiden’s participation in the “Big Brother” program. Based on how the situation was introduced it seemed like it would play a bigger part in the storyline but I just kind of got a few additional honorable mentions and that was it. There are some returning characters and some newly introduced and all were enjoyable. I can see a few possible storylines and I can’t wait to see who is next.
Definitely a fireside read for the winter.

Man, oh man, have I been dying to get my hands-on Aiden and Layton’s story since Scored! I knew their story would be one for the ages—and it is!!
Hello, Aiden is a grumpy, growly, hot AF, star quarterback. He’s got women fawning and falling all over him. Except for the one he really wants. But she’s taken . . . or is she?
Layton would have been better off left at the altar by that bastard husband of hers, Joe. But no, he left her—for the wedding planner—three days into their honeymoon! But Layton is not one to wallow—well, not one to wallow for long . . . she just needs a new plan . . . and that new plan involves seducing Aiden. Let’s see how this goes . . . I’m sure Aiden and Layton won’t be Sidelined for long.
I really loved the dynamic between Aiden and Layton. Layton drew Aiden out of his grumpy, growly self . . . and brought a smile to his face. A smile that not many people have seen! And Layton . . . man . . . she’s tenacious. She had her whole life planned out, until Joe pulled a fast one. So she’s just trying to figure out her new normal—how to really live life without a minute-by-minute plan. Aiden does that for her.
Their chemistry is off the charts, and when they finally give in . . . whoa, get a fire extinguisher.
But there were a few things that were left hanging—a few parts of the plot that could have been better with more words and descriptions. Sometimes I felt as if I was missing some pages of the story because the plot advanced with little build up. But overall, I really enjoyed my time with Aiden and Layton and I cannot wait for Kingston and Gracen in Nailed. ~ Missy, 4 stars

Sidelined was the first book by Marquita that I have read. The story was cute and a nice quick read for my free afternoon.
Aiden and Layton have known each other since they were kids. We're told Aiden has had a crush on her for a while but never acted on it because Layton had this thing for the guy she thought was her HEA and it followed her plan. In the blurb we are lead to believe that she fights for Aiden and then he turns the tables and fights for her, I never felt that she actually did it. The whole time we are only shown him perusing her. Even at the end, In the grand scheme of things this doesn't make a difference but the blurb is a bit misleading. When the big brother thing was brought up it felt thrown in and just a way to have him have a softer side. The whole event he was planning with Layton was dropped and it would have shown a nice connection between the two but it was just left hanging.
The flow of the book was a big rough but I still enjoyed this and read it in one sitting. It's drama light and entertaining. I wasn't a 100% sold on them as a couple but I did like Aiden a lot. I think I'll still check out her other books but this one is just so-so for me.

So here's the deal:
I was angry, annoyed, and even a little stabby towards Aiden in Scored. Like I legit wanted to hurt him for what I thought was a major wrong. I knew, you knew, and even Layton knew Joe was a piece of sh..shoe. I was livid when it all went down. I was going to start a petition and possible hire a hitman. Not for Joe, that piece of trash will get his but for Aiden. Because the bachelor party wasn't even the beginning, clearly everyone had their doubts about Joe. So as honorary big brother with thoughts that cancel out the brother part, Aiden should have intervened. Or so I thought...
But clearly, that was my emotions running high because Marquita Valentine had a different POV. And boy was hers better!
With insanely hot chemistry, crazy antics, and a kitchen encounter I will never forget- Valentine secured my place in her fandom. Sidelined is the smile inducing kind of book. Not a slight smile, nope, the stupid big cheesy grin. I'm pretty sure my cheeks will hurt later kind of smile.
Even better than leaving us with an over the top smile, she leaves us with the tease of the next book...Kingston's story.
This series has me in the stands begging for more!

I knew, you knew, and even Layton knew Joe was a piece of sh..shoe. I was livid when it all went down. I was going to start a petition and possible hire a hitman. Not for Joe, that piece of trash will get his but for Aiden. Because the bachelor party wasn't even the beginning, clearly everyone had their doubts about Joe. So as honorary big brother with thoughts that cancel out the brother part, Aiden should have intervened. Or so I thought...

I have been reading Marquita Valentine’s books since she started out. Her first series, about the Romanov family, is priceless. Her style is Southern sweet and sassy, so her books are light fare with a little bite and a lot of fun. This book is about this boy who studied under a scholarship in Raleigh University and later went into pro football in the NFL. He’s Layton’s big brother’s best friend and has been a frequent guest at her house since she was eleven years old and he was nineteen. She was one of those little sisters who was a pest, following them everywhere and Aiden was putty in her hands. That was, until she turned twenty-one and his attitude changed, for the worse. He didn’t seem to have time for her and was grumpy when they were together.
The fun starts when Layton gets dumped by her cheating husband on the fourth day of their honeymoon. He fell in love with the wedding planner. Following the advice of her best friend Paige, Layton decides to get involved with another man on the rebound to get over Jim and she chose Aiden as the victim. What she doesn’t know is that Aiden has always been in love with her and for him, her wedding was agony. Now he has a chance and he’s grabbing it with both hands.
What ensues is a comedy of errors and horrors and funny instances and some growing up for Layton. She was a little naive, princess of fairy tales type of girl, and she firmly believed in her fairy tale marriage to her best friend Jim. Now she has to adjust to her new reality and open her eyes and her heart to better possibilities, right in front of her.
Aiden is a grumpy and scowling sort of guy, but with Layton he is tender and loving, even while scowling. They sort of stumble on their way to love in this book. What makes it very entertaining is the group of friends and family that surround them and add spice to the funny stuff. There are some parts where the dialogues get a little confusing, like one instance where Aiden and Layton have a fight and break up and I still don’t get what the fight was about. Nevertheless, it was an important plot twist in the story to get to where they needed to be.
Overall, short and sweet and sassy and lighthearted, a perfect beach read. There is some angst but Layton was such a fun character that she was even funny in the midst of a snippy fit.

The plot is amazing, very well written, fast paced and super engaging. The interation between the characters is beautiful and you can see the way they adore each other, even if they try to deny it. Of course that we are presented with some hot stuff as well but the feeling behind each chapter was what make me devour this book in no time.
Oh Marquita you've done it again. You've made me so in love with this book that I really need to read book 1, and I want more. When will we get more?

This one was a struggle for me to get through. I liked the idea of the book, but it dragged for me. There were parts of the story that I didn't quite understand. And my biggest thing that I struggled with, is how Aiden was this character from Boston. Being from there, when someone writes a character based on being from there, they wither hot the mark, or miss. For me, this was a miss.

I truly enjoyed this book. I was happy to see that the it was the guy that had to convince the girl to come around. I loved the banter between these two, it was down right funny at times and other times I wanted to hit one of them. This was a really good book even at the times I just had to roll my eyes at them. I can't wait for more.

OMG!!! This book was fantastic!!! I always love Marquita Valentine's heroines because they are such quintessential Southern belles. Layton Price was no different. I fell in love with her in Scored and knew I wanted to read her and Aiden's story. I'm so happy Ms. Valentine decided to give her readers what they were clamoring for.
And what a story it is. This story has all the feels. And Aiden, oh my, he has WORDS!!! WOW!!! He words made me melt!!!

2.5 stars. Very disappointed. Storyline and character development were so lacking. If I hadn't read Scored, I don't think I would have known anything about Adrian and Layton. I feel like they had more of a "role" in that book than in their own book. Started off really good; felt like I was getting to know Adrian and his unrequited love for Layton. But as the book progressed, the relationship development between the two MCs just went downhill. Layton went from being a 26 year old virgin, having sex less than 4 times on her honeymoon and being completely in love with Joe, to having no feelings for Adrian, to having freaky sex with Adrian, to being completely in love with him. All happened too fast and too unrealistic for me.

Sidelined by Marquita Valentine was such a cute and charming read with just a touch of angst. The story was funny, steamy and included a very sexy, confident, alpha sports athlete.
Layton had her entire life planned out from the age of nine. She knew what she wanted, and nothing was going to stand in her way. It all seemed to be going according to plan, until her husband left her, on their honeymoon, for the wedding planner. Now all she feels is humiliation.
Aiden McHugh only ever saw Layton as his best friend’s little sister, until he didn’t. One day he saw Layton, really saw her and knew he would never be the same again. But Layton’s plans did not include him. So instead he put up a tough and cocky exterior and pushed her away, but he never stopped hoping.
Sidelined by Marquita Valentine was such a charming read. Layton and Aiden are very likable characters, even when they are frustrating! As Layton begins to move forward from her heartbreak, she begins to see Aiden in a new light, but not in a serious way. Aiden, on the other hand, wants all of Layton or nothing. the story started out pretty good..the banter between the mcs was funny but most of the book had the mcs with other friends rather than developing their relationship.....either layton was moping around with paige or helping her and aiden was playing foot or talking atund with dallas....the communicatoon between the mc was very less. the book had the potential to be a good one but turned out blah due to less interactions of the mcs

Aiden has always loved Layton but his honor of not caving into the McHugh gene has him stayed far away. When Layton's husband confessed to cheating the fourth day into their marriage, Layton's self-confidence took a brutal hit and left her wondering what the hell she did wrong. She needed a rebound guy, someone to convince her that she's enough, she decided that was going to seduce Aiden - too bad Aiden wanted more than she could offer....or could she?
Ahh, I am a sucker for this kind of romance, coupled with some steamy scenes and humor, you have a perfect rom-com in your hands. I finished Sidelined in one quick sitting and Aiden & Layton's story was begging to be read, it was fun, flirty with a little dose of drama, overall a good read.
However, I do find the character & plot development to be slightly lacking and everything happened too quick for my liking, I needed something more but I just couldn't quite grasp it from the story. I wasn't particularly feeling the heartbroken vibe when Layton found out about her ex-husband's cheating, nor was I as emotionally invested as I hoped, however, I do adore Ma - Aiden's mum. She's the best!
Overall, it was a fun & quick read with a few hits & miss but still managed to put a smile on my face.

A beautifully sweet and crazily sexy sports romance that'll have you begging for more...
Do you remember that film, The Wedding Planner with J.Lo and Matthew "whatshisname" McConaughey? Well, this is kind of what I would've wished happened to Fran (his ditched bride-to-be) if she'd actually been a nice person. I say that because unlike Layton she's a twatwaffle. Anywho, I was a little unsure about Sidelined. I loved the blurb, that thing had me squeeing from the moment I laid eyes on it. BUT, after Scored, I kind of didn't like Aiden very much—at all actually. However, I put trust on Ms Valentine's trusty genius, and thank God I did because FML. This book...oh. my. I've still got major book wood!
Plot wise, I have to say that I hadn't come across a book with this plot yet. I loved every bit of it. It was punchy and fresh, and it had my stomach filled with butterflies the whole time. I was suckered into this story from cover to cover and when it ended I was devastated. I went from hating Aiden to literally gagging for him. By the time I got to the end of this book my cheeks were begging me to stop grinning. This is just such a great romantic comedy. It's written so beautifully and eloquently, it was just a delight to read. The pace is bang on the money and the plot development is verging on flawless. I was all over this baby like a rash.
When it came to the characters, I was so surprised at how quickly I went from hating to LOVING Aiden. Believe me, I've never felt so fickle in my entire life, but that guy...sweet baby Jesus! Sure, he still had his a-hole moments where I was a little like—come on dude, you're better than that— but, even in those moments you see this other completely compelling side to him that has you swooning and hanging on his every word and action and...maaaaaan, I really did not want to love him as much as I did! Now, Layton, she is one of the most beautiful heroines I've read. Despite everything that's happened and given who Aiden is, she never comes across as a sorry person or even whiney. She's just demure, well...until you get her in the kitchen. That scene actually had me panting.
All in all, I loved this book. I loved the characters and I loved the plot, and I ADORED the writing. Marquita Valentine has a knack for writing the most beautiful and effortless reads, and Sidelined is the epitome of all that's fabulous about her writing and story development. I really cannot wait for the next book. I just want to get to know Kingston on a personal basis, and the little teasing snippet she left us with has really got me hankering for more of these gorgeous characters!

When I read the synopsis for this one and saw that it's starring alpha was a football player I was instantly in, I love sports romance stories, and I have to say this newest offering from Ms. Valentine, definitely hit the mark... in all the right places! It had a unexpected sweet side that warmed my heart, one that also had my heart in my throat a couple of times, and then of course a naughty side that had my tablet screen steaming over more than a few times too! Highly recommend you meet these two, their charming story is sure to leave your heart happy!!

Holy moly! This story was freakin' fantastic! Full disclosure: When I first read the blurb for Sidelined, I knew the characters sounded familiar, but I didn't remember that they were secondary characters in Scored until I dove into Sidelined. Then it all clicked.
In Scored, I really didn't like Aiden. He was a moody, miserable, mean ass for no apparent reason other than he was an NFL star and could be a big old jerk to his best friend's little sister. All that crap was going down with Layton thinking Joe was cheating on her, and Aiden was just being so obnoxious about it when she clearly was looking for some help and guidance. Then I got into the first of Aiden's POV chapters in Sidelined and I absolutely fell in love with him! He's been in love with his best friend's little sister, whom he nicknamed LT when she was a little girl, for all these years! Swoon!
So after Layton learns (on her honeymoon!) that Joe is leaving her for their wedding planner, she turns to Aiden -- who has a manwhore rep -- for some short-term, no-strings-attached rebound sex. She can't commit to anything more than that. But Aiden can't bring himself to take anything less than forever and always with the woman he's been secretly in love with for years. He fights like hell to get LT to change her mind, but can he convince her to take the risk?
I loved the banter between these two characters. Layton is the quintessential Southern belle, and Aiden is a gruff Boston transplant now living in North Carolina. The dialogue was witty and made each of LT and Aiden's exchanges more enjoyable than the next. The characters are relatable, and the storyline hooked me in from the start. I am so glad that Marquita Valentine took these characters in this direction, because it is so not what I was expecting for LT and Aiden after meeting them in Scored! I can't wait to see what the author has in store for Layton's brother, Kingston, in the next standalone book in this series.

I really enjoyed Sidelined by Marquita Valentine, picturing this gorgeous cover model through out the read made the storyline that much sweeter. This is a story that is a falling for your best friends sister, friends to lovers romance. This story is funny, sexy and has a bit of drama. This story had me wanting to reread Scored so that I can reacquaint myself with some of the other characters.
In Sidelined, Aiden McHugh who is the NFL's hottest quarterback, his cockiness may not be everyone's cup of tea. I found his arrogance and his quick wit sexy and very attractive. When he was younger, his best friends little sister had talked him into a promise. Now that they are older, she is a beautiful heartbroken woman, will he be able to keep his promise? Aiden's feelings for his best friends sister and his no sex rule during football season may make things complicated.
Layton Price grew up believing in "true love doesn't change its mind." She had her life planned out in her scrapbook since she was a little girl. Layton never predicted that when she married the man she had always wrote about, that he would leave her on her honeymoon for their wedding planner. Now, heartbroken and feeling deflated she turns to her brothers best friend who had promised to be there for her. She hopes that a relationship based on sex would get her through her broken dreams. The only problem is she thought that the one man who could have any women, wouldn't want more from her.
Sidelined is a quick read with a slow tease that leads to an intense moment of passion. I had this silly grin on my face through out my read. There are moments that pulled at my heart and a moment where I wanted to scream at Layton, that's just because I didn't want her to pass on a great thing. Yes, it is perfectly written leaving me feeling all those emotions. I can't wait for more! I know Valentine will leave us all happy readers when she introduces us to Layton's brother Kingston and Aiden's best friend in her next book.
