While I feel the book's intentions were in the right place and it had everything it needed to make a good story, something was missing. Personally, I think it's tension. The book lacked the right amount of tension throughout, and the pace didn't change to reflect the movements in the story, not even in the moments it was meant to be climactic.
It could've been a lot better, but right now, it just falls a bit flat.
