Perceptions: Challenging Religious Concepts

Rate this book
Criticizing religious influence, Mansourou comes out firing from the gate and doesn't relent in this scathing treatment of mainstream religion and its effect on society. Rather than refer to religion in general terms, or acts in the name of religion, Mansourou attacks religious concepts and modern religious philosophy for their vacancy, and influence today.

Perceptions is a non-fiction book criticizing religion not by its name but by its concept, its social effects and influences and more. The book has over 300 citations and criticizes the vacancy of religious notions and scripture and takes on theologians as well. The author challenges the beliefs of top religions today by merely using logic and reasoning, questioning the faith.

I also appreciated the author adding to the argument by discussing new scientific religions and how they have affected people in the modern world. Eastern philosophy and other spiritual faiths are also mentioned here.

I would sincerely suggest that anyone with an open mind would enjoy reading this book. You would need to be receptive towards judgment, criticism and open your eyes and ears, listen and read, to what is being challenged rather than be defensive and block the debate. Only then, this book could be intriguing to read.

The literature was scholar material. It could be used for a thesis or be read as a university-level subject matter. I recommend it for people who like to read about religious concepts and debates.

~I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review~

The book is a non-fiction book that looks at the main religion in play and the influence it has in today's society. We all know the same arguments and battle, religion v. science. It is a constant battle between everyone whenever either is brought up in terms of discoveries.

The author adds to these arguments about new scientific religions, philosophies, and spiritual faith. He points out the flaws and challenges the beliefs that these faiths are based on. He cites over 300 sources in order to help his argument and shows that he did his research. He does not hold back which is what made me love this book and kept me reading.

The book is a must read for anyone with an open mind. You have to disband your beliefs to truly understand and appreciate this book. I would love to read anything else by this author.

Perceptions by Sam Mansourou is an in-depth argument against the tenets of religion. He uses citations, science, critical thinking and more to state his theories concerning religion.

He makes several statements that demand deep thinking on the readers part. Here are a couple that struck me:

“Someone’s mere world-view impacts their beliefs, expectations, desires, the choosing of partners, friends or careers, essentially their entire existence so much as they can control.”

“Greed is just one of the many human traits that religion does not address properly. Just the mere complexity of a society allows for the smallest of events to cause catastrophe to civilization.”

In his conclusion he states: “It is time to fulfill our potential as beings on this Earth and realize what we have before us and the unlimited possibility that this world will provide us with.”

If you have an open mind and a penchant for theory, you will enjoy the arguments presented in “Perceptions”.
