About the author

Charlaine Harris

Charlaine Harris has been a published writer for over forty years. Her first two books were standalones, followed by a long sabbatical when she was having children. Then she began the Aurora Teagarden book, mysteries featuring a short librarian (eventually adapted for Hallmark movies). The darker Lily Bard books came next, about a house cleaner with a dark past and considerable fighting skills.

Tired of abiding by the mystery rules, Harris wrote a novel about a telepathic barmaid that took at least two years to sell. When the book was published, it turned into a best seller, and DEAD UNTIL DARK and the subsequent Sookie books were adapted in Alan Ball's "True Blood" series. At the same time, Harris began the Harper Connelly books. Harper can find the bones of the dead and see their last minute.

When those two series wound to a close, the next three books were about a mysterious town in Texas, called Midnight.

A change in publisher and editor led to Harris's novels about a female gunslinger in an alternate America, Lizbeth Rose. The Gunnie Rose books concluded with the sixth novel.

She's thinking about what to write next.

Fun and short enough to read quickly. Starts off like the tv series but very quickly veers away. I think some of the storylines are better in the books but because they are drawn out over a longer period of time. You get introduced to more interesting characters. The series starts strong and the first half is great. The last couple of books feel like the writer is fed up and things move too quickly and are rushed. The last book really tarnished my whole view of the series, so maybe stop at book 12 and make your own ending!

Love love loved this series!!! The author made it feel as if I was really in the south experiencing all the things happening and sookie's world and her adventures. It felt so realistic like it could really still happen lol. It was beautifully written and the audible version was wonderful to listen to at the southern accents

It's been a while since I've read them, but I do think the books were better than the show. Though I do enjoy the show a lot.

Okay, let me begin this by saying...WOW. I first picked up this book series to read years ago, and I just couldn't get into it. Then I picked this book up and began reading it and I absolutely refused to put the book down. I loved absolutely everything about the series.

Do not expect the book and the tv show to stay the same. After book three it's a hundred and fifty percent different. Though of course the books are so much better and unique.

Harris's mind is unique in itself and the thought that she came up with the story on her own is just pure perfection. Though there were times when I hated her and there were times when I absolutely loved her and couldn't help it. Her writing is definitely one of a kind.

I loved this series so much that I bought the whole series and will definitely reread. This is such an amazing story and just doesn't compare to any other paranormal that I'd read recently. After finishing the last book, I am now having trouble finding a book to read.

Sookie has just enough intelligence and humor to make this book a joy to read.

Yaaaasssss. I love this series along with the show adaptation. Sookie stay’s agitating me though at points and Bill enjoys my soul. Eric though ? That’s my man’s. His character is phenomenally made. I was extremely disrespected in book 4 when he loses his memories. That made his whole character build almost crumble. To take a strong character and then basically Infantilize him was rough and should of been rethought. Overall though, I enjoy the story along with the show as well.

True Blood

I had seen the true blood series some time ago. I loved the series but I must say that the books are so much better.
Plenty of action, keeps you booked from the beginning.
Filled with vampires, werewolves, shifters, far and other world beasts. I would highly recommend these books.

I've listened to this series once before (and watched the show). I do enjoy these books & think Charlaine Harris is a good author. I don't know why I don't love these books though. Is it because they're now a bit outdated or did I just fail tofall for any of the characters? Maybe I'll never know.

I listened to the books and Johanna Parker does a brilliant job narrating. She brought Sookie to life for me.
