Marguerite de Angeli was an American writer and illustrator of children's books including the 1950 Newbery Award winning book The Door in the Wall. She wrote and illustrated twenty-eight of her own books, and illustrated more than three dozen books and numerous magazine stories and articles for other authors.

Considered it for 8-11 girls' book club, but may be best for a boys' club of this age. Boys having adventures while learning responsibility of studying hard.

not fond of books where the dog dies. But otherwise very beautifully done as always, and a great description of how hard musicians must work to master their craft.
