I loved it - the advice is practical, though not easy. I love the honesty in her writing and there is not a book she has written that has not inspired me. One of my favorite authors!

Self help books resonate with each person differently. This one really resonates with me for so many reasons. I like that God is a focal point, first and foremost (not just MY God but it is stressed to use "your" spiritual being..nothing is left out). The information is shared in stories, and is relate-able. The process is explained clearly and, while I can see that attending her sessions in person would be very impactful, the process is very well explained. The examples provided are actually me ...more

This was a engaging spiritual book that took me through the process of how negative thinking can be your downfall... and how mind over matter can change your negative thought patterns.

This book was F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!!!!!! I mean...seriously!!! This really taught me the power of having a sound mind and how to control my thought-life. It really helps you break-down negative thought patterns at the root and restructure your thinking through practical exercises and affirmations. It truly helped me to work through my anxiety and nervousness. There are 42 different dominant negative thought patterns that we all wrestle with or have at some point in our lives and helps you to work t ...more

I can’t say enough good things about this book. It is sooo inspiring to me and full of the author’s wisdom and knowledge. I love that it is a practical guide too. It touched me on so many levels, and it went very deep. I could relate and transform aspects of my life that I had tried to before but never had the right tools. I want to recommend it very highly.

What an amazing gift! I borrowed this from the library, but this is a book I need to hold in my hands and refer back to again and again. Iyanla introduces tools that teach how to identify dominant negative thought patterns (DNTPs) and guidance on how to change them. Iyanla’s writing is clear and no nonsense; the tools are hers, but the work belongs to those who choose to do it.

There are many things I love about Iyanla, but the main thing I love is you will not get any BS from her. She is what she is and she does what she does and owns up to her responsibility to self and her role in it! You can’t get any more real than that.

I absolutely love watching her show Iyanla Fix My Life on OWN. And what’s funny is, having watched her on television, at no point did it ever occur to me to read one of her self-help books. Well, duh, what was I thinking? When I saw her pretty fac

I love Iyanla, she keeps it raw and real. Something that a lot of people can't take but need. This book is filled with affirmations and prayers to help you face your truths and GET OVER IT! I am a person who can hold on to things forever, and I've learned it does nothing for my heart, mind, body or soul. The affirmations in this book should be read daily, a long side with a journal so you can acknowledge how you're feelings as you recite them. I promise each day gets better, each day you feel li ...more

As usual, Iyanla's writing is clear and easy to relate with. Her ideas are always simple and straightforward and always strike a feeling of being right.

We all have baggage, some of it was acquired before we were born and some of it we collected as we grew up. But most of us aren't aware of it; we have a feeling that we're carrying something but we have no idea what is inside. In her latest book, Iyanla shows how to look at this baggage and gives simple, yet effective ways to sort through it and

In her book, Iyanla Vanzant describes the way to use your mind to heal your issues and past to lead to a successful future. She gives examples of people that have completed her process and really motivates various strategies on how to do this that'll work for you. I have yet to try it, but I'm willing although it does seem like a lot of work/memorization. But her thought therapy can help, apparently, within two weeks. I recommend everyone at least try it because as she says, you've got nothing t ...more

This was pretty good, pretty much what I expected. I will have to make a PDF file and keep it in my phone to actually do what the book suggests though. Its not a very simple technique. The thought therapy has several affirmations, prayers, and negative thoughts. Not very practical to use on the spot but its worth a shot if you have a mini version of the book handy or you do the practice twice a day with the book

iyanla does a good job at taking a bit of CBT and a bit of spiritual therapy and mashing them together to create a practical, useful, supportive program to help us understand how to neutralize, heal, and move past trauma and negative thought patterns. a good book.

I thought it had some words of wisdom, however it seemed targeted towards a tragic individual looking for help. I made it most of the way through, but I had to get off the ride. I can definitely see the value in this work, but it started to weigh on me after a while.

Interesting concept and a wide range of issues are covered. The best part starts about 50% through where the prayers and affirmations are provided.

“and over, the job you go to day in and day out, the status of your bank account. Now consider what you believe is missing in your life . . . Everything you are experiencing is a function of your files, or what you are thinking. Another way to increase your awareness of your dominant negative thought patterns is to closely examine what you think about other people. Here is a series of truths that is often difficult for people to recognize or accept: if you can see it out there, it exists—or has at some point existed—within you. Some of what you see, you have been or don’t want to be. Most of what you see, you believe you are. All of what you see—out there in the world or attached to other people—is a thought that is already present in your mind. “I give meaning to everything I see” is a lesson from A Course in Miracles. It can be translated to mean the following: “I see it because I recognize it. I recognize it because I believe I am it. Because I believe I am it, the ego demands that I hide it and make it all about you.” Making your life conditions and experiences about something or someone other than yourself “trumps” the truth that thoughts, not people, create the” 0 likes
“Anything and everything we experience is a function of what and how we think. How we think determines our feelings and behavior. How we behave determines the nature and quality of our lives. This also means that any emotional investment (i.e., feelings) that are attached to a particular thought pattern will resurface each time the pattern is engaged or entertained. To neutralize and eventually eliminate an unconscious, unproductive pattern of thought and the associated feelings, a steady stream of new thoughts must be introduced.” 0 likes
