Lexy Baker #13

Cream Puff Killer

Rate this book
When bakery owner Lexy Baker and her posse of iPad-toting grandmas find a dead body under Ruth’s late model Oldsmobile, it opens an investigation into a decades-old crime. It seems Ruth’s reformed crime-boss boyfriend stashed something of immense value away before he died. Too bad word is out in the criminal underworld and a dangerous killer has come to town to find it.

Armed with only their iPads, gigantic patent leather purses and a box of baked goods, the ladies must use their wit and cunning to unmask the killer before he hits too close to home.

After thinking HARD to get through the physics in “Artemis,” a return visit to Leighann Dobbs’ Lexy Baker was just the ticket. Nothing like a cute cozy mystery to cleanse the palate after a more difficult read.

In this Lexy Baker cozy, Lexy drops her Nans ’ posse by Ruth’s storage facility to pick up her Vintage Olds. They don’t expect to find a dead body sticking out from under it! Of course, Nans and her geriatric friends are hot to solve the murder, and Lexy’s cop husband, Jack, wants her to stay out of it. This is standard stuff for this series.

Of course Lexy gets involved, b/c she thinks Jack is getting really distant for some reason so she childishly goes against his wishes. She makes some HUGE assumptions about a blonde she sees him with. And her VW leaves her walking a few times. One of the ladies has learned to text and they discover the joys of being able to call an Uber, in this case a fellow resident of their retirement facility, whose husband entertains himself by turning old coins into jewelry. That’s important to the plotline.

Yes, Lexy and the elderly ladies end up in hot water. And yes, all the plots resolve nicely, although I LOVE that Nans’ quick thinking saves the day, not Jack. And of course, Jack was planning a surprise for Lexy, NOT having an affair. Geez, trust your husband already, Lexy!

Even though I was on the right track w/ the killer, I still didn’t have it quite right, so that makes this cozy a winning read for me. Sure this one’s formulaic, but if I enjoy the premise, why not enjoy it?

Cream Puff Killer

Lexy and the ladies are at it again. In this story they are hunting the killer of a man whom they find under Ruth's car. Lexy is also having doubts about Jack and their marriage. This is a wonderful story and gets five stars, because it pulls you right into the story. I really enjoy Leighann's books.

Fun read

It was good to see Lexy and the ladies back together again and up to their usual mischief. There were two things going on in this book simultaneously, and I figured both out long before Lexy and the ladies did, but it was still satisfying to read the book through to the end, just to witness the reactions. It was fun to see what everyone has been up to, and not to be disappointed.

Poor Lexi...lol I really think surprises suck especially when everyone around you is lying and keeping secrets to make sure your really surprised and that then sets your over active imagination into overdrive and even though Jack really didn't do anything for Lexi's thoughts to go a bit left of center lol I could totally see why her thought process jumbled a bit but it was a great surprise in the end if it had been me I may have kicked Jack in the shins .......lol

but we can't forget the dead body either yep thats right another dead body so yes Lexi sat through another lecture from her sexy detective husband about not getting involved in the investigation, keeping Nans and the girls out of the investigation and you know just staying at her bakery where she belongs ...... yada, yada, yada seriously Jack just needed to finish that little gem off with a condescending pat on the head....lol As Lexi always say's it's not like she goes looking for trouble it finds her very easily and anyway someone needs to keep an eye on Nans and the girls..........

But has Lexi, Nans and the girls found more trouble than they bargained for this time with a dead ex-con and rare coins from a bank heist in the mix maybe Jack is right and Lexi should stay out of it or Maybe Jack should listen to Nans more often and he would close cases quicker.... hahahahaha.

I really do love this series.

Lexy tries to make Jack happy by staying out of a the murder of someone who was found under Ruth's car that had been stored for winter. Nan's and the Crew will have nothing to do with keeping away and of course Lexy is drawn in whether she wants to be or not.
Tis is a great continuation in the Lexy Baker series and I hope there will be more.
Lee continues to put out fun stories that compel you to continue reading until you have finished the story.

A Killer Mystery!

This is another winner in the Lexy Baker mystery series! It was a totally fun read with an amusing plot & quirky characters, especially the Ladies Detective Club. They are a real hoot! Wherever they go, chaos follows! And poor Lexy is always caught between her Nans & husband, police Detective Jack Perillo. A little added bonus is a Lexy's delicious cream puff recipe.

Another Great Story!

I know that whenever I pick up a Lexy Baker Cozy Mystery book, its going to be a great book. Lexy and her partners in crime ard perfectly suited for each other. I love how the characters are smart, witty, and yes, a few "older" women, like myself! Fun read.

To be bugged.

Another wonderful episode, although how the ladies missed all the clues is beyond me. This episode also finds Lexy 2nd guessing herself, her friends and Jack all for nothing.

Oh my this one kept me guessing. I realized while reading book 14 that I skipped this book. I thought for sure I had figured out who the killer was but I was so wrong. Am excited to see what comes next.

Good internal dialog

Lexy feels uncertain about her relationship with Jack. As the story progressed, Lexy sees problems where there are none. Her uncertainy is all wrapped around external happenings and dialog. This is a well-crafted story.

Book 13 not unlucky but my favorite in the series.

Fun read. Love the adventures these ladies find themselves in each mystery. They could give Jessica Fletcher a lesson in solving crime.

Got it wrong

Again!!! There's a twist, always a twist!! Very entertaining story, right to the end. I'm not sure if the clues through the story will lead you to the killer and now I can't go back and work it for myself since I know whodunit!! Oh, well, enjoy!!! On to the next one!!

Crime

Jump in on a crime right off the start. Lexy kept thinking that Jack was having an affair.
Big blue olds became the center trying to find old coins.
In the every thing was good and getting a VW just like her old one

This book is always fun with these wonderful "young" ladies who do a lot of snopping to catch a
killer. And Lexy always has to promise her husband that she won't get involved and to try to
keep her grandmother and friends out of trouble. So grab a cup of coffee, a danish and enjoy the adventure

A great study of marriage

I found this adventure really a valid study of marriage and how each member responds to moods and love. Really glad I read this book.
