I approached this book with caution as I generally dislike anything with a "young adult" tag but it was recommended by a friend and I had the advance copy forwarded to me by the author on request on Netgalley. The result was a rather pleasant surprise as I found myself genuinely intrigued and flipping pages at a steady rate. I judge a book by how long it can do battle with my need to sleep and this one kept me up to impressively late hours on a few occasions.

The lead character, Jessop, is someo

The Glass Blade by Ryan Wieser was not what I expected. When I see words like galaxy in the blurb, especially when I compare it with the cover, I expect something along the lines of a Sci-Fi genre. Instead, it felt more along the lines of the fantasy realm that I use to read years ago. It was kind of nice to step back into the genre. Once I got over that mindset, I found myself actually enjoying the book.

Action, mystery and plenty of build-up is what I found once I started reading. Jessop I foun

THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ! I loved reading this book and I’ve already recommended it to my friends. Like other reviewers, I don’t really see this as a sci-fi but a romance fantasy. I could visualize the world and characters with ease and I was definitely not expecting the plot twist either. It had me re-reading the pages in disbelief. I’m looking forward to the next installment.

The Glass Blade is a well-written, fast paced, suspenseful sci-fi thriller with a little something for everyone. Jessop is a strong female lead with a big secret and as she works to gain the trust of the Hunters we are left guessing what that secret might be - ultimately leading to a suspenseful, climatic ending with a twist I did not see coming.  The writing is excellent. It brings you swiftly into the author’s world and quickly paints a story you want to delve deeper into. I was intrigued by t ...more

The Glass Blade is an exciting, thrilling tale that can only be described as quite the page turner. Whilst not a genre in which I am particularly well read, I found myself immediately drawn into the story, and quite frankly could not put it down. One of the most appealing aspects of the book for me was the character development - every single character was relevant, and with the most intriguing backgrounds that kept you wanting to know more. The lead character - Jessop - is a multi faceted, stro ...more

Predictable story that doesn’t develop in an interesting manner. I also felt I was reading a romance action story that had no plot. Avoid if you have anything better to read, I’d prefer the back of a shampoo bottle over this.

The Glass Blade is an exciting tale that will easily appeal to fans of Star Wars. From the start the parallels between the Hunters of Infinity and the Jedi are obvious. Both are skilled fighter who use a wholly unique weapon and both are masters of the powers of the mind. Such was the similarity that it took me quite some time to take the novel seriously. Like Rey, Jessop is a rarity, a woman with ability as great or possibly greater than the Hunters of Infinity. Here is where the novel departs. ...more

Jessop is a master swordsman that escaped Falco Bane's stronghold. She strives to be the first woman hunter, and knows the fortified Hunter's domain is the only place she will be safe from him. But the council is wary, and she must prove herself as saving 2 hunters lives in a brawl is not enough to trust her. A thrill ride of betrayal, revelations, agony of the heart, and the heartless. A twisty little devil of a novel. Like a "whoa" moment? Read this first in a series. I voluntarily reviewed an ...more

Shelves: didn-t-finish
Didn't finish, stopped about 40% in. The pacing felt rushed - a few times I thought "How is this happening already?" The world had interesting potential but turned me off by also rushing the intrigue - too many names, places, and things were mentioned in a hopefully-mysterious manner but not explained, blatant foreshadowing that started to annoy rather than draw me in. ...more

Meh. This felt like it really needed more polishing, and I saw the "twist" coming a mile away.
