The reports of Jenna McLaren’s demise were premature. Because Jenna–nervous, well-appointed, and very much alive–was sitting in risk manager Vicky Lucci’s office, with a copy of her own death certificate. Now Vicky has to find out how her Denver hospital pronounced Jenna dead . . . and why.
For Vicky, the answers come fast and furious–along with a rising tide of mystery, suspicious behavior, and unexplained deaths. With a lucrative job offer dangling in front of her eyes, Vicky may be leaving the medical center just in the nick of time. On the other hand, with lies, secrets, and the promise of an unproven miracle drug swirling all around her, Vicky may be doing just what a killer ordered: leaving the heat–for the fire. . . .
Not the worst book ever but not good. Seemed more like string of consciousness than professional writing. I had major issues with the main character. For someone that is a risk manager, a lawyer, and has medical training, she just seemed like a real bimbo who is only concerned with money and her love life. Yet, she at some point had gone on a whopping 3 dates with a police office so can magically be the person solving the crime even though she changes her mind every 10 minutes and can't seem to put a logical thought together.
OK, so the medical angle to the central mystery was kind of far-fetched - I still really enjoyed the book, and quite liked the lead character. Looking forward to finishing all the books I still have from that damn "Friends of the Library" book sale so I can buy new books. And some of them will be by Suzanne Proulx.
