I really like Rood's writing style - very easy and conversational, but also includes lots of good information. It is interesting to read a book written so long ago (relatively speaking) and know the outcome of some of the animals talked about. I wanted to go back in time and tell him "good news is coming for the timber wolf and California condor!"

This is an older book I got around to reading as I set up bookshelves in my soon to be new library area. I had read part of it previously but decided to go through it this time, well, just because.

The book is certainly a good representation of many animals some people do not like, and of course I am not a fan of either fleas or mosquitos, but many of the animals I am a fan of and found myself intrigued by the science and approach of the book. Written in story form and with lots of good information this is a fun read.

Published in ‘71, some of the science is outdated/incorrect now, but it’s still a pretty adorable book, written by a Vermonter and featuring lots of Vermont places and animals. Mostly cute stories about the author’s personal experiences with animals, followed up by info about the species life histories.

Another great book by the world renowned, late, great Ronald Rood. My copy is autographed by both Ron and my brother, Reed Prescott, an illustrator of some of Ron's books. Ron Rood gave my brother's art career a giant kick start that he is eternally grateful for. Almost like one of the family! I should read this with my grandkids when they are here visiting.

Good anecdotes but that's about it. I don't think it was written for my age group.
