There is an absolutely wonderful tradition in Norway consisting of reading crime novels for Easter, especially in desolate places. In this old pagan country, we have a tendency of forgetting (or ignoring) the messages behind Christian holidays, and making our own instead. In which case Easter is a time of skiing, lots of drinking, chocolate, playing antiquated board games, and crime.

All of those traditions are incorporated in Dead Men Go Skiing, an unapologetic parody of Norwegian crime cla

Title translation: Dead men go skiing.

After having read De dødes tjern and Døde menn går i land by André Bjerke, I naturally had to read the poorly masked parodies of them, starting with Døde menn går på ski by the Norwegian writer and TV comedian Knut Nærum.

This is first of all a hilarious parody with subtle comments weaved into the dialogue, making you snicker at every other page. It's something as rare as a funny crime book, such a treat in this respect.

As for the crime part, ev

That awkward moment when you're done with your "Easter book" before Easter has properly started..
Oh well, review to come.

Update: review came 8 months late because I wrote my thoughts down on a piece of paper and then lost it. Then I forgot about it. Then yesterday it turned up.

For those who don't know, it's a tradition in Norway that for Easter everyone relocates to the mountains for a week to enjoy the spring sunshine, go skiing and read crime novels. Why the latte

I am going to be completely honest here and say that I didn't get much enjoyment out of this book...

I get what the author is trying to do, but for me it just didn't work. Not once did I even half smile while reading. And yes, it might be that my sense of humor is "wrong" for this book. But I can only rate it the way I see it...

The only reason I finished the whole thing (instead of stopping after 50 pages) is that the book is fairly short and I spen

Great parody of the Norwegian strand of 'Golden Age-crime', especially the novels of Bernard Borge (Andre Bjerke). Followed by 'De Dødes Båt' and 'Voodoo på Vestkanten'.

Artig liten sak.
