Keeping her safe is difficult, keeping a proper distance from her is downright impossible.

Lady Lily Drummond understands only too well the danger of spy work. Her father, a preeminent master spy, has been missing for months, and her brother barely survived his final mission for the Crown. Lily is still determined to help find her father, no matter how hard her brother and

4 - "The things I subject myself to for the good of England." Stars!

I am not a huge reader of Historical Fiction usually, I think this mainly stems from the fact that I read a library full of Mills & Boon style historical romances in my younger years, and although the stories in that genre and style absolutely hold a fond place in my heart, I in general like my heroines with a little more ‘mettle’ to them nowadays.

Laura Trentham gave me that in An Indecent Invitation, with fiery, ballsy Lad

This book had so much potential and the writing was very good, but still the biggest complaint I have here is that it slipped sometimes in the main reason of the story: the search for heroine's father due to a kidnapping perpetrated by a dangerous spy.

(view spoiler)

Still the romance was good and all the main characters were interesting and logical (even if the heroine was on a knife's edge of TSTL a few times!)

5 indecently delicious stars for An Indecent Invitation. I love well written, clever, and sexy historical romance novels and Laura Trentham delivered. I couldn't find anything I didn't like in the read as I was so captivated that I read the entire novel within a few hours. I had to know what would happen next and needed the almighty happy ending.

Lady Lily Drummond is such a great character. She is spirited, passionate, loyal, and clever. She's literally a modern woman, mostly, stuck in the past

This book had SO many things about it that I loved!
First, I loved Lily! Such a fun character! I adore reading about young ingénues who take the ton by storm. She may have been brash and never did what she was told, but her impulsiveness led to some great adventures. I enjoyed the depth the author brought to this character.
Second, I am totally down with the ‘big brother best friend’ trope. It’s always so much fun when the gentleman realizes what a catch he had in his sights for so long. Usually t

Gray Masterson is a soldier and a spy, who has returned home to England, weary and wary. His best friend, Rafe Drummond, has turned recluse after sustaining injuries during the war, and his mentor is missing. This book made me realize that I have a soft spot for heroes who wear glasses -- not much is mentioned of Gray's physical appearance

My Review:

Laura Trentham had me intrigued with the title, showing real interest with the series name, and hooked with the synopsis. How do I walk away from all these things?? The answer is, I don’t.

Lily Drummond just isn’t what her father, the Earl of Windor hoped she would be. Lily isn’t at all interested in making a good match and settling down with a man who only wants her for her dowry

Original reviewed for Buried Under Romance

AN INDECENT INVITATION by Laura Trentham is the first book in the exciting new series, Spies and Lovers. It is a cleverly written novel with romance, comedy and suspense all rolled up in one.
Our heroine, Lady Lily Drummond, is the daughter and sister of spies for Crown. When her father disappears, bullheaded and beautiful Lily decides to get involved in the search, even though it may mean risking her life. Her brother, Rafe,

Let me tell you that this book did not disappoint at all in my expectations. I loved every minute of reading this book.

I don't read very much historical fiction and I always go in with a bit of hesitation, but my reluctance swiftly faded away as I became so engrossed in Lily and Gray's story. This book has mystery, which surrounds the mysterious disappearing of the Earl, David Drummon, Lily and Rafe Drummonds father who runs a "spy agency." Gray Masterson who is a long time family friend

This is book 1 in the Spies and Lovers series.

Gray Masterson has been asked by his best friend to watch over his little sister while she is in London. Not wanting to be a part of the social scene, he forces himself to go to a ball to check on Lady Lily Drummond. If she is anything like she was as a child, she could do something rash and ruin herself. It doesn't take long before Gray is distracted by a beautiful woman who won't tell him her name.

Lily can't believe that Gray doesn't recognize her.

Every man is surrounded by a neighborhood of voluntary spies. - Jane Austen

Gray Masterson spies a beautiful woman at a London ball, forgoing his task for the evening - make sure his best friend's younger sister is staying out of trouble. He is surprised to learn the beautiful woman is the gangly girl from his childhood. No matter what Lady Lily Drummond looks like, she is still stubborn. Gray must persuade her to abandon her efforts to find her father. He must keep Lily safe ... and Lily from di

An exciting and delightfully naughty story.
Lady Lily Drummond is the daughter and sister of men who work for the Crown as spies. So with her brother suffering the after effects of his latest brush with death, Lily takes her season in London as a way to investigate the disappearance of her father, who vanished months ago.
Gray Masterson grew up on the Earl of Windor's estate so naturally followed his best friend into service for the Crown. He has been searching all their undercover contacts

I really loved this historical romance. Not only did it have steamy chemistry, well developed characters, and an exciting plot, but also the writing was beautiful and thoughtful without being over the top. I have read a few HR books with espionage as a theme or plot point now, and this book handles it well. I think Lady Lily was a strong character, and I appreciated that she had such a temper on her, and also that she was so self aware of her own character strengths and weaknesses. a very enjoya ...more

What a fun book to read! It had a little bit of everything a novel needs to make it entertaining....passion, intrigue, suspense, humor and engaging characters. I loved Lily and Gray. They were both so spirited, confident and appealing. Their chemistry was off the charts hot and steamy. I thoroughly enjoyed all the twists and turns in the plot. This was my first book by Laura Trentham but it surely won't be my last. I hope the next book is about Lily's brother Rafe.

An Indecent Invitation was my first book by Laura Trentham but won't be my last. Ms Trentham has delivered a well written book. Gray and Lily's story is peppered with awesome characters, suspense, action and sexy bits. I enjoyed An Indecent Invitation and look forward to my next read by Laura Trentham. An Indecent Invitation is book 1 of the Spies and Lovers Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
Fast paced tale of lovers, passion, secrets, spies and romance. I loved this story from beginning to end. Very interesting, intriguing and an enjoyable read.
Fans of mystery, suspense, and romance will enjoy all or nothing tale.
A remarkable story with engaging and wickedly seductive characters! A must read!

This sexy historical romance novel is entertaining, fun and spicy. The main character Lily is spirited and had great chemistry with Gray.
So glad I was introduced to this author and series, this was a first for me with author Laura Trentham, but will not be my last. I will be looking for the next book.

Lily has been in love with her brother's best friend since they were children (my favorite romance theme!). Gray is a spy who was taught by Lily's father. When the father goes missing Lily joins forces with Gray to uncover the truth. He tries to fight his feelings, but she wears him down. Lots of steamy romance! Loved it!

Oh how I loved Lily! She is feisty, sarcastic and sassy! I loved, loved, loved this story line! The plot kept me turning pages and at times, laughing out loud. Can't wait to read the next book in this series!

OUR HERO is in service to the Crown, call him a spy or a soldier...he can be either. Years have gone by since he last saw Rafe's sister, the gangly and awkward who pestered him when she was a kid. Of course, he doesn't recognize her

Crown spy Gray Masterson has been tasked by his best friend to keep an eye on his younger sister, Lady Lily Drummond. At the same time, he is trying to determine what happened to her father, the Earl of Windsor, who has disappeared. Gray has a hard time reconciling the beautiful sensual woman who stands in the place of a young gawky girl. He finds himself enchanted.

Lily is no longer that gawky girl who followed Gray and her brother, making a nuisance of herself. She is capable of helping and is

Loved the book! Lady Lily is regretting her last words with her father right before he disappeared. Know months later she is having her first season. Gray who has known Lily since she was in short skirts lost the bet against her brother and is to watch her. When he gets to the ball he is not sure what Lily looks like since he hadn’t seen her in 8 years. When he spots a woman he wants to get to know better he stills her for a dance not realizing it is Lily. She is upset when he doesn’t know her. ...more
2.5 stars. This was enjoyable for the most part - although the romance was kind of iffy. I didn't particularly like Gray and I had some issues with Lily but they were mostly alright. Lily had some great comments on the role of women in society. Still, she was so naive it made my head hurt. Gray was kind of a dick. Not all the time and he got better as the story progressed but for a lot longer than I prefer. I would've liked to see more character development of secondary characters, they fell a l ...more

This was my first book by Laura Trentham and I truly enjoyed reading this story! Gray, a spy for England and Lily, the daughter of an earl, set out in the hopes of finding the Earl after he's gone missing. Gray doesn't want Lily in the fray but she can't stay away. So rather than risk them not knowing what she is up to, he enlists her help. And falls in love with her along the way. Gray and Lily were a great pairing. The characters were well fleshed out and there was mystery and intrigue. I'm ho ...more
A mixed bag

Parts of this book were great: the snappy dialog between Lily and Grey, Lily's turning the tables on the old cliche of a damsel in distress ( it's so refreshing to see the dashing, strong alpha male hero rescued by a confident, resourceful heroine!)

What I didn't like was a pretty weak mystery, and the romance went too quickly from antagonistic to swooning desire. Also, the secondary characters, Race and Minerva, become much more interesting than Lily and Grey, since their romance is cl

This was a surprisingly spicy historical read! A sharply intelligent heroine, a detail oriented hero, and an abundance of sizzling sexual tension captured and held my attention from the start! Old secrets, a missing earl, unsavory villains, and suspicious incidents were just a bonus to an already entertaining tale.
