This is an Alternate Cover Edition for ASIN:

I am Levy Michaels. Once my kind were the hunters—now we are the hunted

Supernaturals are out of the closet but I have to stay hidden because of the type of magic I possess. I’m a Legacy. It sounds like the title should come with reverence, a trust fund, or at the very least a cool backstory—instead it comes with a

I keep thinking that there's an interesting story in there, somewhere, and I just can't find it. At 53% in, you'd think it'd start to manifest. There's the core of an interesting idea around Levy. She's a remnant of a magical race that all the other supernaturals joined the humans to wipe out—and not without good cause. The "Legacy" had their own city and were crazy powerful and decided they'd like to be the only ones with magic around and started a spell that began killing off all the other ...more

It is a really good story and the plot and magical world is interesting. But, a big BUT here, the characters lack in depth and aren't in any way interesting. The dialogues are often immature as well as the thought process. Furthermore the storyline and dialogues are constantly interrupted with useless repetitions and information not needed. This occurs in blocks dissecting the dialogues and the story line which makes it impossible to enjoy and read the book in a fluent go. The writing is way ...more
4 Stars... This book started off a little rocky for me primarily due to some repetition in the dialogue that seemed centered around the world building, however, several chapters in and I found myself becoming increasingly invested in the story... A world where all types of supernaturals (Mages, Vampires, Shifters, Witches, etc) coexist harmoniously with the humans after suffering the “Cleanse” several decades ago... One woman, in hiding due to her supernatural abilities, gets thrust into a ...more

4.5- good neroine and nice world building if not for a bit of info dump at the beginning. Good hero type character too

Interesting world, sometimes I felt like I couldn't follow the character conversations or there were weird jumps between but it was enjoyable enough

If you have read my reviews for Linsey Hall's Dragon's Gift series or my reviews for Ella Summer's Dragon Born series then you can pretty much stop here. These books are just the same thing, mixed up a little and repackaged. Are these three writers all the same person, telling the same story and just laughing at us for continuing to buy their books?
I only gave this book three stars. Not that it isn't a good story. It is. Not that it isn't well told. It is, mostly. Interesting? Yes. Adventurous?

McKenzie has done it again! Another fantastic read - once I started there was no putting the book down and I finished it in one sitting.

Levy is my favourite female character ever! She is sassy, sarcastic and can hold her own against anyone. Savannah is just as awesome and I love the sisterly bond that she has with Levy. Again McKenzie has created an interesting world for the reader and I was hooked from the very first paragraph. I was invested with all the characters and that has never happened

Good story. Seemed a little slow at times, but overall a good story.

I decided to read this book after reading the reviews and it was an entertaining read. Levy was my kind of woman who is kick ass and takes charge of the situation. There was a little bit of romance between her and Gareth but it did not overpower the story line or hinder them in their quest to find the Necro Spear. Due to the fact that they are on opposite sites the chemistry was just on simmer but not the instant love that is typical of these types of stories. So many unanswered questions that ...more

OH d@mn, I'm creepy, too!

This is a great start to what looks like will be a kicka$$ series.
Creepy but hawt Vamp- check
Sexy Alpha shifter- double check
Bada$$ heroine that's funny and has sass too- double freakin check
I was glued to Double-sided Magic. It literally didn't have a dull moment. I can't wait for book 2. Will definitely be reading Mckenzie Hunter's other series and stick with Legacy Series.
(3.5 stars) This reminded me a little of Harper's 'Blood Destiny' series. I'm intrigued enough to move onto book 2.
Gets weirdly lust filled

I bailed at the 84% point because I couldn't handle any more of the MC getting hot and bothered by the shifter who will end her if he finds out about her powers. This isn't hypothetical, he is responsible for finding and ending her kind. Her parents were killed by the same people at age 15. She's spent eight years, masking her magical nature, learning to support herself disguised as a human and being very careful.

Now she is playing flirtation games with a sleazy elder

Definitely had the 'feel' of Helen Harper's Blood Destiny series, but of course the story is entirely different.

25 yrs ago The Legacy were blamed for the Cleanse, wherein all other magical creatures were supposed to die. The Legacy wanted to be the only magic users on the planet, so no more shifters, vamps, witches, mages or anything else. The way the Cleanse worked, though, killed the weakest first, so humans that had magical ancestors died first, then the weakest of the supernaturals. That

So a strong 4.5 read. Such a crap ending, but sure makes me want to move on to book two. I enjoyed this story and enjoyed the story on the magic and such. I look forward to how things progress and how Levy may or may not come clean. She will have to in some cases, we shall see how that goes. If you like magic, shifters and vamps you may well enjoy this.

Liked the story but the heroine is mediocre

The plot is interesting but Olivia isn’t very likable. I don’t mind how stubborn or independent she is, it’s that she doesn’t pick her battles well. Why would you purposely piss off extremely powerful beings, especially when you’re trying to lay low?

A good start

This new series adheres to the paranormal romance formula with interesting characters and a well-defined world. I almost quit it after the first few chapters, but am glad that I stayed long enough to find a connection to the main character and the story filled out. I will read the next one. This could use some serious proofreading for grammatical errors.

An interesting start, but a little formulaic. Definitely giving the next one a shot.

Recommends it for: nobody ever.
This was terrible. I can't even say I actually read the entire book as I skimmed a vast majority. Literally the first 20% (I read on a kindle) was world building. Repetitive world building at that. Hunter just repeats the same thing over and over, through the entire book actually. I almost gave up but I was interested in the concept as it had real potential. This super powerful chick is in hiding because her kind tried to kill off all magic years ago and now they're hunted. Of course she gets ...more

i love the sai-wielding kick butt heroine, but i hate the words that come out of her mouth. (and so does everyone else in the world. but they love her anyway?)

i really appreciate the fact that she can actually take care of herself, but I actually felt myself get dumber after reading this

LOL but i still went on to read the next book

It was weird for me. It could have been good, but it just had too much information that was unnecessary and it detracted from the story itself. There wasn’t enough dialogue to like any of the characters.
i will be reading the next book when it comes out.

Lack of character depth

There will be some spoilers later on...

This was difficult to read for several reasons and only two reasons I kept going. First of all, there are several logical issues I saw. Just as an example, near the end of the book, one of the characters was “distant” from the main character when she needed help and then all of a sudden he was close enough for him to help her get up from the ground with no explanation as to how he got there. Did he run? How long did it take it take

When I first read the summary for "Double-Sided Magic" I quite honestly wasn't sure what to think it whether or not I would enjoy it. However, the positive reviews was the deciding factor for me and I decided to give the book a try. I enjoyed this read tremendously even though the writing was rather unpolished and a little awkward.

Olivia "Levy" Michaels is a Legacy, a race of magical beings that was nearly wiped clean from existence in the Cleanse. She hides her identity and from time to time is

Since this came out, I have debated purchasing it or not. Two years later and I finally took the plunge and I'm glad I did.

This book follows the life of a Legacy, a being of incredibly pure magic/power. Levy, our main character, is a legacy that is forced to live in the hiding because of the actions of other legacy years before she was even born. Levy had settled in a routine in a place she felt was home but that is all jeopardized in the beginning of the story by the murders mentioned in the

Double-Sided Magic is the first book in McKenzie Hunter's Legacy series. Some background information for this series. The world is made up of humans, mages, fae, witches, shifters, vampires and Legacy. Legacy have the magical ability of all of the other groups. They were once the most powerful magical beings on earth. About twenty-five years have passed since less than a hundred Legacy performed the Cleanse. Their goal was to eliminate the rest of the supernaturals from the world. At first, the ...more
First person POV is not my thing and I find myself dreading it when I want to read a book so badly because of the cover or the description only to find out is in first person. But there are some times when it has paid off my taking the risk since I am a person that cannot not finish a book even if it's horrible. I am glad I did take a risk with this book.

Levy Michaels is being hunted because of who she is and not what she has done. She is in hiding and staying away from anything or anyone that

It was well after midnight, the wind was howling outside and I was turning page after page consuming the story as its magic weaved about me. It was only when my eyes couldnt remain open, when my body finally surrendered to the early morning I had to close my kindle. Reluctantly!!
But I finished it the next morning, with breath held as those final words from Levy...I just bought book 2!!!
I only wish my own books were page turners as yours!!

Well I'm definitely going to read book 2

A firm 4 star book. I took a star away for repetitive writing. I completely understood that the lead last was a legacy and needed to stay off the radar. Other than that,I completely enjoyed this book.

Levy, or Olivia is a strong female lead. Though she still has a lot to learn. I enjoyed the interactions she has with the other characters. Especially her best friend and The leading man. Wink wink. The author did a really good job at giving each character

A solid story, great characters, unique idea, and a brilliant urban fantasy with the right amount of detail etc. It was hard to get into as the beginning had a lot of information dumping, but once I got to the 50% mark, I was so enthralled by the world, the characters, and the subplot romance that I couldn't put it down and read the rest in a single night. Could have done with being a little more active, especially given the genre and target audience, as I felt that there was a little too much ...more
