This was a very good story. I liked Mickey very much. I liked Kerrick too he was frustrating at times. This is the first story I've read by this author and I liked ti well enough that I think I'll try more of her work.

Mickey is an ex-con that's not really a criminal. Mickey was raised by a single father and grew up without a woman in her life. Her first boyfriend was a guy that her father had hired to run the ranch and approved of. After Mickey's father died, things went to crap and the b

Not what I was expecting....

But good.....I really didn’t get from the blurb what the book really was. It was better. We meet our Irish American Detective Kerrick & our h right away. He picks her up from the side of the road headed toward her ranch after prison for battery on her ex right away and we’re off & running.

Mickey is a strong h. I’m not always crazy about those, but it really worked here. The author added some nice soft touches & I got on board with her character pretty fast

5 STARS

This is the 1st book in this series and I have to say it is a brilliant story to kick this series off with.

Kerrick and Mickey are not who you would pick as an ideal couple. He Is a detective and she is an ex-con. When they first meet the sparks ignite immediately
and they soon learn there is no point fighting it.
They have both have baggage & it’s not the light kind either. They have huge obstacles to get through before they can have any kind of proper relationship

Favorite Quotes:

“She attacked the burden of putting her house back together with the determination of a toothless man committed to eating a steak.”

“Could it be possible Kerrick McKinley like me? If so, I felt grateful for his lack of good judgement.”

“I want to kiss you in front of the world and let every ogling man know you’re off limits, especially Roland. You may think of him like a brother, but I see him look at you and I don’t like it. If he’s a brother, then he’s an incestuous

This is a book about starting over after making a bad decision she is getting out of prison. With no one there to pick her up she starts walking being picked up by cowboy who she finds out is a detective. Both of these characters are carrying baggy they will have to deal with before they can move on. Mickey gets home and nothing is as it should be now she must find away to save her ranch. I wasn't sure wether I would like this book or not, but boy was I hooked on the story and all the others that will follow. Being a women just getting out of jail sure does put a different perspective on life. Mickey's life on the ranch has always provided her with a sense of home until the day she was arrested defending her self from an abusive boyfriend. Being free not only meant she had to start her life again, she had to go back to a home that was literally taken away from her. Nothing would ...more

Fabulous read.

I have been lucky enough to receive an arc of Kelly's latest novel, and it was absolutely fabulous. Kelly Collins creates characters who maybe slightly flawed, but makes the readers care and fall in love with them.I loved the premise of the story, the characters - Mickey the feisty heroine trying to rebuild her life after being released from jail who still retains her belief in love, and Kerrick the unlucky in love hero. Kelly creates intrigue and a great plot, as well as deliveri

Now, here is what we have. An ex-con, a describe and a rodeo rider walk into a bar... no wait, wrong place for that.. but we do have an ex-con, Mickey, who went to jail for a year after she sliced the tires on her now exes tires when she found him riding some bimbo on the hood of his car in HER front yard. This is the first in the second chance series but is a standalone and there isn’t a cliff hanger at the end.
We start this story with a young girl just of prison and trying to get herself home to her ranch that has been left in the untrusting hands of her ex. She has a long walk ahead of her and is picked up and given a lift home by a detective. On getting home her house is trashed cattle and horses gone and money from her

She is looking forward to getting back to her ranch and getting her life back together. Yet no one is there to pick her up when she gets out and she begins the long walk home.

I gave this book 5 stars!!!

Kelly has once again given us a book boyfriend to fall in love with. From the moment you open this book to the end you will be wanting more of Kerrick and Mickey or maybe one of his sexy as sin brothers. I love how this story is set on a ranch and how this author has made you feel as you are there with Mickey as she makes every life decision of the ranch. I fell hard for Kerrick and his demanding ways. Who wouldn't want a hot, sexy as sin cowboy/detective?

Total unique plot line. When i read the blurb to this book i was very excited and it was great.

Mickey is a feisty, sassy woman who knows what she wants from life, she has made mistakes and now just wants to make the best of what she has.

Kerrick is married to his job and lost his real marriage to it too, now he refuses relationships until he meets Mickey.

Wow....
This book is so great. I tell you what.... This is only my second Kelly Collins book and I am in love. There is just something different about her books. It's all brand new to me. They don't seem like the same recycled story lines. I'm not saying I don't love all of my other books but a lot of them have the same basis. Hers have a flair and uniqueness to them that set them apart.

HOT N SEXY RIDE!

Refreshing story all about Second Chances!

Set Free is all about second chances in life.
In the story there is a unlikely couple a detective and a ex-con with enough baggage to slow down a race horse. It shows how determined people can be, especially as they fight for their relationship trying to make it work.
The characters are steadily developed as the story goes on, and I personally can't wait for the next book.

Given an ARC for an honest review. Kelly Collins gives very strong characters in this book. Mickey is a very sassy, strong and fierce woman. Talk about having a plan for what you want out of life. Kerrick is a hot, sexy and gorgeous man that is consumed by his work. When you combine these two you get a mixture of oil and water but it works. Kelly Collins shows that you can strive for something and you never know where the unexpected help will come from or appear. Quick read. Looking forward to m ...more

Mickey is a newly released convict down on her luck. The whole world has turned against her and she feels like giving up.

Kerrick is an emotionally scarred Detective. He has a hero complex but a misguided attempt at using it.

The journey they embark on to happiness will keep you on the edge of your seat. Kelly Collins does a great job with the action, suspense, relationship and character development. I can't wait to read the next book.

Set free is a wonderful story about Mickey, a woman just released from prison, and Kerrick, a police detective. They meet under unusual circumstances and he feels he has to protect her. They have a lot of ups and downs in this story, including her psycho ex and his fear of commitment, but they work through everything together. I love Mickey's spunk and determination and Kerrick's heart. I loved this and can't wait to read more about the McKinley boys.

I dearly loved this book! As usual Kelly has written the unexpected.

An ex convict (Mickey) and a detective (Kerrick), who would have thought. I loved the connection I felt with all the characters in the story.

I'm excited to learn more about Mickey & Kerrick as well as the other McKinley brothers.

I highly recommend this book to any and all!

"I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review." Wow, Ms. Collins is added to my "go to author's list" Mickey was dealt a bad hand in life, but she was determined to make the best of. Kerrick was sent through the ringer and is trying to get his life back without dwelling on his past. Together the are trying too overcome the past that still haunts them. Making a new family for herself and trying to rebuild something from nothing. Brilliant story can't wait to read Set Aside!
