Amber Wilson grew up in Louisiana, so she knows good Southern food. She originally wanted to be a scientist, but after doing a project about Southern Food her direction changed. She turned down a job offer from NASA and started a food blog that eventually led to this cookbook. While not a trained chef, she was taught by generations of Southern cooks in her family. 6 stars if they were possible. Yes, I love a good book on the South. This lovely book, the photography is awesome, was given to me by my children for a birthday present. By page 41 I'm hooked and the page How To Eat Alone, made me remember a college assignment where I had to go eat a dinner alone, with no reading material, then discuss it in class. Infused with the author’s childhood stories, this cookbook shares Amber Wilson’s take on southern cooking. There isn’t a recipe for biscuits and gravy or pimento cheese sandwiches, but a more “cleaner” version of southern food with a Louisiana twist. Most recipes have pictures which makes it a good buy for me.

Southern cooking. Southern hospitality. Southern culture. Amber Wilson gives readers a feast in photographs and text, sharing cooking tips and encouragement, as well as an introduction to the different types of Southern cuisine. She also reveals much about her life and philosophy through her blog postings, portions of which she includes. Beautifully scrumptious!
