“Your courage is in your tears. Every time you cry, you lose a little bit more of it. That’s why you’re so breakable. Not because you’re human, because you’re always shedding courage from your eyes.”

“That night I didn’t say anything. I just watched you leave and in the end, I just stayed sleeping awake. Somewhere between a sweet dream and a beautiful nightmare, hoping one day you’d return to rid me of the demons you left behind.”

Oooh I need to say this, I unfortunately don't remember the exact plot line. I read this book and the sequel a long time and right now my mind is filled with Indian history.. but what I do remember is I loved how excited this book made me feel. I picked this book by mistake, as I confused it with a book that I had to send review to the publishers. Anyway, oh god!! I loved so so much!!!!! I desperately searched for the volume 2. I couldn't find the third book but if anyone knows how to access it ...more

Great job yet again

Love the storyline. It was slow at first and the picked up
Love summit and Lucas. And the last line line left me crazy for book 2.

Omg I need more

This book is truly done in Lola St.Vol style. She keeps you on your toes and apprehensive if the outcome. I love the characters and the real life struggles that they must ensure at the same time they must save the world. This is an awesome first book of the Toren story and I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

Good story with a good premise, but...

I have a lot of concerns about this one, especially with it being a YA book. There is a lot of alcohol consumption, especially on the part of the 15 year old heroine. The other characters are around the same age, seemingly minors, yet there are multiple instances of alcohol consumption. There is so the sex scene at the end, though there is a disclaimer for younger readers to stop and skip it, but we all know a younger reader will not stop and skip it. Add to

Having just recently finished the Noru series and then jumping right into this one was a bit weird. I am still attached to the Noru's and having to live this new journey through their kids is definitely an adjustment. This book was good though. I did not expect the book to start off the way it did or for things to have turned out the way they did. It's pretty sad actually. Summit doesn't understand the love she's had from everyone, especially her parents, since before her birth. It's also fun to ...more

I'm always surprised by how wrong I can be about a book. And Shattered Souls was no different. Everything flowed together. There was action right away. I was never bored or felt overwhelmed. As for the characters, I'm obsessed! Maybe I'm just a fan of angst and heartbreak but in my little heart it will always be Summit and Lucas. No matter what. There's no one else. Excuse me there will never be anyone else.

Summit was someone I think a lot of us could see ourselves in. Where we have those momen

Maaaaan!! If I keep reading the same story I really should only be mad at myself, but still!! Come on Lola...can the children of exes not keep falling for each other? It was fine with the Noru series, but I could've done without the same issue again in this series. This was a fast and easy read. The beginning banter was my absolute favorite part since it reminded me of Rory Gilmore and all her relationships. Then it just spiraled down from there. There were good moments...kind of. Real

I'm going to be straight up and to the point. I don't like giving bad reviews but I sure as hell dont like an author think they can pull the wool over your eyes cause you're a hardcore fan.

I came in on The Noru series. I never read Guardian but a few pages and it seemed like the Noru for the most part. Fast forward... I see a sponsored ad for The Toren... I'm like yay new read and it's on KU. Get all cozy and start to read.

Let me say it started off with promise Summit was funny, snarky, and wi

Yet another 'introduction' sequel to a series that already had too many books in it to begin with. This book just does the exact same storyline for the third time, only following the granddaughter of our beloved Emmy from the original Guardian series. Confused Yet? I would say this book is good, but that would be an exaggeration. It seems like the book wasn't edited because there were so many errors. The storyline was rushed, and just frankly didn't make sense with the rest of the series that pr ...more

This book continues with the grand children of the guardian team they are stronger and more exciting

This book as part of the new generation of angels coming from the last book was a little slow to roll but roll it did I'm sure that the new generation of angels will continue to get more exciting than the last as it continues with more missions and more danger with the new characters will just continue to get more exciting .it was a good read can't wait for more adventures with these younger stro

I love the sassy, tough, young Summit! When her first so called date turns deadly her life takes a major twist. Summit learns she could be the cause of the world to end. She meets new friends and her family but it's hard for her to let go of her pain. Summit and her team have to complete what seems to be a impossible mission to save the both the human and her new found world from ending! Then a unsuspected visitor changes the whole thing and could destroy close friendship plus the team. I can

This novel started out great. It dragged me in had me guessing and even wanting more. But then half way through it switch perspectives, which is fine and I get that it made sense to do it this way. But I felt that the book lost some of its intense I want to keep going and the audiobook won't read fast enough - factor. I gave it a chance, all the way to the end mind you. To pick up and redeem itself. And to switch back to Summits perspective again, but it never did and it was disappointing.

Ok, it started out funny and sweet but then the whole story was rushed and there are more questions than answers. Ahhh, its the same story as guardians and Noru but poorly written. Lola, if you truly have talent write a different story. SAVE your money and your time people. Unfortunately, I can't get any of it back.

Holy cliffhanger! This book was a great introduction to Lol as new series. There were so many twists and turns I didn't know what to expect next.

1 downside - there were several misuses words in this book. It may need to be edited again. It wasn't horrible or took away from the story, but it these me off at some points

Lola you rock!!!!

I'm a huge fan of the Guardians, Noru, and now the Toren series. There's nothing I dislike. It's a page Turner from open to close. I love the intensity of each character and how they really value family. I'm pulled in immediately with all of Lola's series. MUST READ YOU WON'T REGRET!!!

Lola you did it again!

I agree. This is your best story yet. Not that I didn't love the others, because I did. But this has the perfect amount of action and romance and an awesome hook. I was torn between not wanting to put it down and wanting to savor it until the next book. Have mercy on us "ticks" and hurry please :-)

This is the first book of Lola StVil I have read and I'm excited to read the rest of her books. The beginning communication was Rory Gilmore sassy and funny. The action was good and even though some of the dialogue was OK, get on with it, you said that already, the rest of the story more than makes up for it. You are left hanging. My question is, will the Drid return? ...more

Suspense filled romance

When I started reading this book I had no clue it was an extension of the Noru Series much less the Guardian series. But I fell in love with it right away. Between the teams antics, secrets within, tension between team members and life or death all consuming love. It made for a wonderful read. Can't wait to get the rest of the books!

Brilliant start to the Toren series. We meet Summit, a young girl who, all her life has been passed from pillow to post through the care system. From one bad home, to worse, she has no idea her first ever date is going to end in the end of a life for one, and the beginning of an unbelievable life for another

Paranormal at its best!!

Wow!! I loved the Guardian stories. I loved the Noru stories. And this third set of stories set in this world is just as well done. Amazing storytelling and characters that grab you. No one tells Angel lore better than Lola St. Vil. And this latest generation is just getting started!

Not a fav. Story line was choppy and at times unrealistic. I liked Summit & Lucas and the star-crossed lover angle. However, the story needed fleshing out. Time seemed to move incredibly fast for her to get her powers, learn to use them, and be successful on her first mission. It had good moments but not enough for me to want to continue with the series. 🙁

Best series writer I have read

My favorite author and this series with book 1 is going above and beyond with twists you don't see coming .
The characters are just so detailed it's like you grew up with them. Waiting on next book will be hard ...
Very quick read with this one ... Don't know how to explain it but it seems like BAM they beat the evil and then was in love and over done with .. I personally didn't feel like I got full fill of the characters end the love they shared .. But that's me .. ...more

Definitely not my favorite out of her books.

This book felt rushed, they do 1 mission and then suddenly it's 8 months later? What about the other 2 parts???? Lots of time skipping. Too much is missing, leaves me with too many questions.

Couldn't put it down

Great addition to the series, Lola continues to outdue herself. She has done it again, I laughed, I teared up ,i gasped in suspense and of course the queen of the cliff hangers leaves us wanting more.

Sucked me in

I was unsure about this book at first but it quickly sucked me in. The main character, Summit, is very strong yet vulnerable and all the characters in the book complimented her in their own way. I can't wait to read part two!!

The Toren: Shattered Souls

The Toren was a wonderful adventure! As a grandmother of young adults, I am so past the angst of teenaged love, but, the characters were so beautifully written, they drew me into the adventure. I'm looking forward to the next mission.

Great book

Loved it just like the previous 2 series. I love the references to the previous ones as well as some of the same characters. I also love the continuous twists and turns that keep you hooked, along with the cliffhanger ending.
