The Woodsman's Baby

Rate this book
We all have that one person we never get over.
The one person who haunts your dreams, crushing your soul when you wake up and realize they're gone.
The one person whose name is tattooed forever across your heart.

Like the clashing kaleidoscope of tattoos that run down his arms.
Connor McLean.
My brother's best friend.
I've loved him my entire life.
And I've been the invisible sidekick. The pesky little girl with fluffy hair and gangly legs.
I always thought I'd grow up and he'd finally see the real me. That he'd watch the little girl blossom into a woman worthy of his love.
But he left.
Connor joined the SEALs and broke my heart.
So, when I see his familiar swagger across the bar. When his cocky smirk makes my heart flutter, I know this is my chance.
It's wrong to deceive him. To pretend I don't know him. But I need him to give me one night. One chance to see that I'm not a little girl anymore.
However, my secret is nothing compared to the one Connor has been holding all these years. The one that could tear us apart before we ever have a chance.

Second Chance At Love And A Surprise Baby

I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book, The Woodman's Baby by Eddie Cleveland.

Another award worthy book from Eddie. His books are addictive, you can't read just one. Once you read your first book, you just gotta read them all. He is one of my all time favorite authors for a very good reason, all his books are excellent. The characters are wonderful and real, the storyline and plots are brilliantly written, the love is sweet and the sex is volcanic and dirty. Don't miss out on this book, don't deny yourself the joy and pleasure of experiencing a Eddie Cleveland original.

Charlotte has been in love with Conner since she was a child, she always hoped that one day (soon) he would realize that he was in love with her too, but then when he was 18 and she was 13, he left to join the Navy SEALs and she never heard from him. It had been 14 years and then suddenly, he was there, in the same bar Charlotte was in, in their hometown.
Conner couldn't take his eyes off of Charlotte, she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He didn't even realize that she was his childhood best friend's sister. He went home with her and of course, they ended up in bed together (not to sleep). The next day, Charlotte's brother, Marcus, found them together and blew a gasket. Before Conner left for the Navy, they had a major falling out and Marcus had never forgiven Conner. He adamantly, told Charlotte to stay away from Conner, so she cut contact with him.
2 months later, Charlotte discovers she is pregnant. Naturally, she is a bit freaked out by it and scared not knowing how both Conner and Marcus are going to react. Will the baby draw Charlotte and Conner closer together or push them apart? Does Conner want a commitment with Charlotte? Does he want to be a father to the baby? Will Marcus forgive Charlotte for seeing Conner even after he told her not to?

Alrighty then. 2 stars from me.

It was very predictable, which is one of the reasons for the low rating.

It did have a nice storyline and we got a full story, it just felt very flat.

The characters weren’t really that interesting, and the whole “angry brother pastor”- part did not really feel real to me.
He also really annoyed me.

I also really missed a dialogue. Some “normalcy” I guess. The epilogue had it. It just felt like whenever the main characters were talking it ALWAYS ended up with sex rather quickly. I didn’t feel like they solved anything .

Connor was decent enough. A few things bothered me about him as well though. Big, tough SEALS man getting chased out of the house by angry brother? He is a SEAL! He faced war/battle for 14 years and he is not standing his ground, and runs out when the brother gets pissed. Yes, they had history, but really? I guess I just didn’t really feel that is how a SEAL would have reacted?
Anyways...

The title really threw me off as well? I just don’t understand why it was called the Woodmans Baby?

Because he owns a house in the woods? Or is there a hidden meaning that must have slipped my mind?

It might seem like a minor issue, but it has a surprisingly big impact on the story. Or at least what you expect from a story.

Charlotte has loved Connor, her brother's childhood best friend since she was 13 and he was 18. Then he left for the military. Now back in town after 14 years, they meet in a bar and he doesn't recognize her, but she recognizes him.
Erotica with a bit more story than usual for that genre. I skimmed a fair bit of the sex. It was spicy but too much I guess. For the first half of the story I didn't like Charlotte much. I liked her brother even less... like not at all. The two of them were so judgmental towards Connor. So it was blaming the victim.
But Charlotte improves when she starts to shake off her brother's control. I mean she's 27, it's about damn time she decided to come out from under his authority! sheesh.
The brother was an interesting character. A preacher with an anger problem.. Kinda an oxymoron.
By the end I was happy with the HEA. Connor was such a sweet guy.
Safety is good .

He is a "Woodsman" because he can really handle his "wood"!

So this story is not about a lumberjack. Nor is it about a "Grizzly Adams sort of character. I guess you would consider our hero a "Woodsman" because he lives in the woods? or is it because of what I said in the title? 😀 Connor, the man in question is a terrific new book boyfriend. He is sex on a stick...gifted genetically and physically in all the important lickable ways... and he knows what we,women like.
He meets this mocha bronze beauty in a bar as he was celebrating his return home from a career in the military as an officer with the SEALS. The beautiful woman, Charlotte is holding back a secret from Connor. They share a night of delicious lust, but for Charlotte, what they shared is the culmination of longing and a love for Connor since she was that little girl, Lottie with gangly long legs and puffy hair following her brother Marcus and Connor everywhere. This reunion should be the remarkable beginning of a love and life together for Connor and Charlotte "but the course of true love never did run smooth." Shakespeare (A Midsummer Night's Dream) The storyline deals with our main characters working out past grievances real and imagined. They all must deal with the surprise of a new baby made by the love of Charlotte and Connor.
Peppered throughout the story are the hot erotic love scenes between Charlotte and Connor. I so enjoy a male writing sexy scenes for a primarily female audience. A little testosterone in the mix gives it a different flavor. And Mr. Cleveland's writing is no exception. However, I did miss the build up, the delicious tension, the secret touches, the will she or won't she question lingering in the air before they actually have sex... a little foreplay please.
I so loved the ladder scene, but other than that, the loveplay was a little one note with the overuse of the word "splash".
Oh I just know I will be attacked with many "unhelpful" votes, but please notice how balanced my small critique is and yes I encourage readers to choose works by this author because the bottom line is that they are smokin' hot. He will only get better, I am certain. So, for some tasty testosterone in your sex salad one click your way to the delights of the "Woodsman" and his...need I say more? 🙃

MELT YOUR HEART SIZZLING ROMANCE

A spellbinding romantic read that lures you into the lives of Connor and Charlotte and keeps you turning pages until the conclusion. Deep-rooted emotions tug your heart-strings, mouth-watering seductive scenes wow you while gripping suspense and action leave you a bit anxious. There is, of course, a well-deserved heavenly happy ever after.

Connor a Navy Seal has come back to his hometown after fourteen years and his new residence is a cabin set deep in the Willamette National Forest. His emerald eyes hold you captive and his herculean build is quite impressive. Connor does have a distressing past from his hometown that still haunts his memories. Charlotte has sass, is quite the beauty and has had a girly crush on her brother's best friend since childhood; fantasy dreams still plague her nightly hoping one day Connor would be hers. When they meet again after fourteen years Connor does not recognize the girl she once was; her bewitching smile leaves him feverish and senseless setting his sunless world on fire. One heated night of passion catapults them into a tangled web of family drama.

Mr. Cleveland's gift for writing has combined a bit of reality and fantasy to make this a most remarkable story. The characters come alive with clever dialogue, and the back stories of Connor and Charlotte give you insight into their personalities. Connor is definitely an alpha male but his compassionate side also shines in this story. The relationship between Connor and Charlotte was at first a bit rocky, but they did have fun together and in the end, they are perfectly matched; their romance is filled with respect and much devotion. If you treasure intoxicating romance stories this is definitely a fabulous book for your library. I found this to be a most gratifying read and loved it so much {I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy}. Without reservations, I recommend this book.

Connor McLean and Ryan Rogers are relaxing at a local bar after installing a window in Connor’s house. Connor, eyes constantly scanning the room, apologizes for picking a quiet little bar, but being recently retired from the military, he appreciates the quiet more. Then both of them spot a couple of women at another table, and Connor’s breath is taken away! They introduce themselves and sit down. But Connor doesn’t recognize Charlotte, the girl whose heart he broke way back in her school days. She was his best friend’s younger sister! It had been 14 years since she had seen him, and she fantasized about him every day.

Taking Connor home with her, Charlotte had a moment of panic when Connor thought her home seemed familiar. She brushed it off as “all townhouses looked alike” and took him to her room. This was a dream come true for her. But they are awakened the next morning by loud knocking on her door. Her brother calls her by her nickname – the one she avoided using when introducing herself to Connor – and Connor remembers her! Worst yet, the door opens and his best friend, Marcus, stands stunned! Connor only has time to put on underwear as Marcus chases him down the street and alerting the whole neighborhood with his yelling! Will this be the last Connor sees of Charlotte? Or will her dream really come true?

This is a very well written story that has the reader cheering for the characters. But there are surprises along the way! It will keep the reader engaged and eagerly reading more to see how things turn out. I definitely recommend this book!

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Connor McLean and Charlotte (Lottie) King. Lottie has known she was in love with Connor since she was 13 years old. Unfortunately he was 5 years older than her and her brother's best friend. So when it came time for him to join the military it broke her heart to watch him leave. But he is back and she wonders is this her second chance to really have the man that has held her heart all this time. Can they get past the fact of who they are because she is still his best friends little sister and he is still 5 years older than her?

Connor can't believe that he has found this beautiful woman. When they have an explosive night he knows that he has to have more of her. In fact in his mind he is thinking of a lifetime with this woman. It maybe fast but he feels a connection with her that he has never felt before and doesn't want to let it go. When he finds out she is the little sister of the man he thought of like a brother he is unsure what needs to be their next step. All he knows is he wants more of her not just one more night either. Can he convince her that he is in it for the long haul or will he loose her before they can really be anything?

This is a great story about finding true love and fighting to keep it. This author is already an amazing writer and this story will be no different. This one will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. There are many twists and turns I want to tell you about in this story but don't want to ruin it for any other readers. I will say I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

Woodsman

I liked the first part of the book but once we started getting into the drama I wanted to roll my eyes. It was all so back and forth. Drama from 14 years ago still causing problems. I liked her character but she seemed a little weak. Let her brother control and boss her around. Made bad decision. But eventually she stood her ground. I really liked Connors character. He was sweet. Overall this was okay with a nice ending.

Full Circle

For me, this time around, I was disappointed. I expected a full length story and I did not get that with Connor and Charlotte's story. It really was a good story until it jumped into time zone and fast forward. I felt like this time I must have accidentally turned too many pages and missed too much. The story had been well developed until it seemed the author had to turn in the book quickly for publication. I have enjoyed this author's full length stories, until this one.

Connor is ex-SEAL and returned to his home town, he falls for a bronze goddess in a bar who leaves him breathless. What he doesn't realize is how your past can catch up with you.

Charlotte is stunned to see her teenage crush actually eyeing her in a bar. He does not appear to recognize her at all. Too many years have passed so why spoil the potential fun of him not remembering.

Loved It

This was an amazing story. The storyline is basically a second chance romance for Charlotte at least. Her teenage crush left for the military when she was 13. Only to return 14 years later. Conner return was an unwelcome surprise for her brother whom still held a huge grudge against him. Great Read!

Book Review

Woodsman's Baby-3 stars-Connor is home after being a Lieutenant in the Navy SEALS, and catches s glimpse of a beauty at the bar he goes to with his friend.
He doesn't recognize her, but Charlotte has been in love with him since she was 13 and he was 18. Now they're both older, and he can't help but want to be with her.
Connor and Charlotte's brother, Marcus, had a falling out at prom, and haven't been able to reconcile. But, when Charlotte becomes pregnant and she and Connor profess their love, Marcus must face his own past mistakes, and they can all then move forward.
A bit too short, predictable, but not bad. Will continue on with the next book in the series.

Saved by the Woodsman-2 1/2 stars-Ashley is a shallow Instagram star, overly dramatic and desperate for likes, but she's a lot deeper than I initially thought.
Sawyer is a man who's suffered a lot of hurt, with his parents and brother being murdered by a crazed killer who believed lies about Sawyer's family in the media.
They each share their wounds and their feelings develop as they help each other understand and heal. Trapped in a cabin in a snowstorm, they leave the world behind, but eventually she returns to face her messed up world.
I like the message about the shallowness of social media, and the idea of being off the grid appeals, but of course, this story is fantastical. Still, not bad for a quick read.

Virgin for the Woodsman-2stars-Cole doles out his own Justice on the man who raped his sister, then lives as a fugitive.
Abbie is an assistant to a PI sent to track Cole down so he can be caught, but the PI tries to rape her, and Cole saves her.
As she learns to trust Cole and understands what made him lose control and kill someone, they become close.
The PI guy returns, and in saving Cole, Abbie kills him. Perfect for them to be on the run together.
The sex is a bit too harsh, worse than in the other books, but the story isn't bad.

Charlotte has loved the same guy since she was a child and the love of her life happens to have been her brothers best friend. Conner had left when he turned 18 for the Military and it broke Charlotte's heart but now 14 years later he is back and sitting across the bar from her and she is not willing to let him go tonight. Conner sits in a bar and see's this woman who does something to him that he has never felt before, they get to talking and he doesnt recognize her or know who she truly is. One night together is all she needs before he knows who she is but one night will change the rest of their lives.

What I enjoyed most about The Woodsman's Baby is watching a true love that is still there 14 years later after all the years that went by that Charlotte hadnt seen Conner. Watching Conner and how he reacts to who she is and how he isnt willing to give her up no matter how much Charlotte's brother wants to kill him, as he finds she is the one for him. Seeing Charlotte want Conner but not wanting to disappoint her brother as he is all the family she has left but seeing her heart breaking over what she has always wanted but will never have.

This is another fantastic read by Eddie Cleveland, I can never put his books down and they are very fast entertaining reads. This book has Charlotte a woman who knows who she wants but not having him until one night she runs into him and she only wants one night to see how it would be, Conner a man who is not willing to give up on the woman he wants but not knowing how to fix the problems between his ex best friend and himself to get his girl, a love story. If you like stories like this, then The Woodsman's Baby is a must!

My friend Roger and I go to this little bar for a drink nothing more. Roger was helping me build Connor’s house. As they were sitting in the back you can look around. Since he got back from doing his tour as a Seal where ever he went to a place the first thing he would automatically check where the exits and sit with his back against the wall. Then he spot them two women sitting at another table. Connor and his friend go over to meet the women. Charlotte could not believe they were coming over to talk to them. Charlotte had a hard time not staring at him Connor Charlotte had not seen Connor in 14 years ago. Connor sits next to Charlotte he begins to ask her about herself she tells him she was born in Bend. He did not remember Charlotte as she was young when he would see her. While at Charlottes house he hears a banging on the door he hears someone calling Lottie. Connor freezes as he sees Marcus barging into the room. This was little Lottie who always had a crush on him. Meanwhile Connor and Charlotte are seeing each other until she walks out on him. Meanwhile Charlotte realizes she hadn’t gotten her period she goes to the pharmacy and who does she run into but Connor. Connor and Charlotte had a lot to talk about with her brother Marcus. One thing leads to another words were said that broke Charlotte’s heart. Twists, turns, and second chances.

Per the author this novel never fit into the woodsman world very well. The characters are all people featured in his Fairy Tale SEAL series so he renamed the book Once Upon a Time.

This was one of my least favorite books from this author. I felt that he made girls in general look dumb. The book wasn't so bad where I couldn't finish it but I did skip parts just so I could get through it.

2.5 STARS from me. This book was just okay for me, I don't understand all of the rave reviews. This is my OPINION and I just think the story line was a little under developed. I really think the title of the book was part of the problem. Connor was not a "Woodsman" therefore that just didn't sit well with me. As I was reading I kept thinking that this should be called the SEAL's Baby, I even went out of my Kindle a couple of times and looked to make sure I was reading the right book. I think that Marcus was a jerk, but the rest of the story was kind of cookie cutter. Typical, insta love and contrived strife. Connor waiting 14 years to say that he was sorry even though he was drunk was lame and Marcus finally owning up to his part was lame too. Took longer to read than usual because I was trying to figure out who the Woodsman was. First book by this author and I may or may not read another, all in all just a MEH for me.

Ok to start with, I was only going to give 4 stars, and that was because I hated a character!! Then I thought about it, and well it deserves 5 stars, because if an author can get a response like that out of me, then they deserve 5 well earned stars!!
Charlotte has always had a thing for Connor. The problem was he is her brothers best friend and he never saw her like that.
After a huge fallout Connor leaves town and joins the marines. When his time is up he returns to his hometown, just wanting a quiet life.
Charlotte realises that now is her chance with Connor, especially as he hasn't recognised her.
The journey that follows is one that will pull on your heart strings, then have you cheering them on and finally wanting to throat punch characters as they act like douchebags!

The Woodman's Baby is told from the two points of view of the couple in the story. The author understands the problems ex-military men come home with and the deep feelings and commitment of dedicated military heroes.

Connor McLean is an ex-Navy SEAL that is home after fourteen years of service. He makes his home outside of town in the National Forest in a shack that he renovates into a beautiful home. When he left at age eighteen, Charlotte King or Lottie was only thirteen and his best friend's little sister.

He sees her across a local bar and does not recognize her, but she knows him. The problem is with her older brother and this is the big dispute and conflict in the story.

I loved the way the emotional tensions was such a big part of the plot and how the author wrote the guy's side with so much insight.

Hold on to Your Heartstrings!!!

Conner is back from overseas – and currently living in a remote area as he does not like to be closed in. When he goes to a bar with a friend he sits with his back to a wall and automatically scopes out the exits. Charlotte always had a crush on her older brother’s best friend; and when she sees he is even more attracted to this grown-up version. Charlotte too is all grown up, so he does not realize exactly who she is – as she follows her heart and brings him home.

We are treated to zero-to-sixty in 2.5 pages as we are taken on an amazing ride of family, grudges, keeping promises, and a scintillating relationship. An excellent read – you won’t be able to put it down!!

Conner & Charlotte ♡
Conner is back home finally, from the Navy, a newly retired SEAL. He is out with a buddy and spots a bronze goddess across the room, and is instantly smitten...turns out he knows her, but doesn't recognize his childhood best friends little sister. She should be off limits, she should be forbidden, but she has other ideas. Charlotte only sees the love of her life is back in town, and hopes he can finally see her as a woman, and not a bratty tag along little girl. Conner & Charlotte have insta chemistry, and enough heat to start a fire...but can they survive the secrets. Drama, kindle melting heat, and super smexy romance, all make for an Ah-Mazing read!

Eddie Cleveland continues to bring is bad boy romances with a little military with his latest release. Connor just left the SEALs and is now back home when he spots a beauty he has to have. Little does he realize Charlotte is the little sister of his former best friend that used to follow them around before he left 14 years ago. This is a whirlwind romance with passion, tears and some fists. Loved this latest from Eddie!! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I don't get it. Just because you live in the boone's you are a woodsman. I don't think there was one scene of him out chopping wood. This took me a very short time to read. But that's what I was looking for. I was also looking for a pregnancy book without the woman hiding it from the man. I got that. Lots of sex. And I felt the connection between the characters. And there was a dramatic moment that brought everything together. So 3 stars for those things. I could not rate it higher since it lacked any depth in the characters or their relationships. The book did not drag me into the story like I crave. It was like watching a 30 minute TV drama. So much more could have been done. Such as chopping wood. Lol

Although this is called Woodsman’s baby, Connor is not really a woodsman. He just happens to live in a cabin on the edge of town that is in the woods. With a that being said, this was a really cute story. He knows what women like, and is like walking talking sex on a stick. Racked with his own demons from his time as a officer in the SEALS, him and a buddy are at a bar when he sees a Delicious woman and makes a move. Little did he know that Charlotte was his ex-best friends little sister all grown up. Before she gets the chance to tell him who she is it gets exposed. A reunion she was hoping would be a remarkable beginning of a love and life together has bumps and twists you will not see coming. I don’t like spoilers so I will leave it at that.

When your childhood crush comes home after 14 years of fighting for his country...Will you stop at nothing to finally have him. That's the premise here...Connor comes home after a horrifying experience overseas...trying to find his new normal...living alone. On a night out with one of his squad mates he meets Charlotte...not realizing they already know each other. The history they have is a lifetime in the making, but 14 years apart makes her almost unrecognizable to him. Throw in some family drama and some hot as fire sexy times and you've got yourself one he'll of a story. Oh and don't forget unexpected pregnancy and miscommunications!

Connor and Charlotte have known each other all their lives, but after Connor left for the military it’s been fourteen years since they’ve seen each other. Connor doesn’t recognize the all-grown-up Charlotte until after their steamy one night stand, and that’s when the story really takes off. Once her overprotective brother, his former best friend, finds out about their “reunion” all bets are off! This story was well written, lots of fun to read, and had more (and more explicit) love scenes than most books do. Their relationship steadily grows through all the conflict and drama, and we get such a sweet epilogue at the end. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Connor really was a good man who just had some bad luck. I felt bad for him and Marcus in the beginning, but Eddie Cleveland did a great job helping to put the pieces back together. Charlotte had her hopes and dreams in her hands, but tossed it out in a heartbeat, and it wasn't until she figured out she might be expecting Connor's baby that she came around. I thought it was a little shortsighted of her and for that I didn't like her as much. But I did love the ups and downs and twists throughout this fast steamy read. I hope to see Marcus get his own story! I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
