I’ve planned well, studied hard, and dreamed of my future. It keeps me alive, ignoring the things from my painful past. The thing about life is that it can throw a curveball into your path that you can’t anticipate, and plan accordingly.

But life’s cruel. It offers both good and bad, and no time for the right reaction.

My junior year of college should be one of the best but

This is a great start to a new series! I was glued to my Kindle until I finished it and was yelling NOOOOOO when it ended in a cliffhanger. This book is full of mystery, suspense, secrets, thrilling plot lines, friendship and family, and a forbidden romance between Samantha and Blake.

The story takes you on a roller coaster ride and keeps you guessing as it rolls along. I loved the slow build and burn of Sam and Blake's romance. It is so tough to not tell you more, but I don’t want to give anythi

This book takes you on a journey of a 21 year ol college girl who learns she's not as grown up as she thinks. She's smart, driven and flawed. Her organized life gets turned upside down by love and the ugly side of the world. It is fantastic to watch Sam grow, Blake show compassion, and love blossoms.

I am looking forward to part 2 to see where Sam lands in this confusing adult world.

Alert: This book ends in a cliff hanger, and I hate cliffhangers. Samantha Sawyer, a college student with a love of baseball, meets Blake Angel, a graduate student at her university who seems to be turning up in very unexpected places. The attraction is instant with a nice slow build and lots of tension.

All in all, this book has a little bit of everything: suspense, drama, friendships, romance, and sports. You can also throw in secrets, lies, and mistaken identities. Well written with great cha

A twisting tale of romantic suspense that will keep readers on the edge of their seat!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up this book. I am the least athletic person you will ever meet. In my entire life, I've never even held a baseball bat...

But I have been in love.

Schuler writes with such immediacy and passion that I felt as if I had stepped right through the pages of the book and onto the baseball diamond. Through her characters, I could imagine what it felt like to be young, athlet

Review: I like sports. I love romance novels. I really like when something I love and like come together to give me a great story. Now other than being Samantha's major, I really could've done without the sports angle in this book even though I like sports. I mean I get her tie to baseball and it is very meaningful to her but it doesn't help the story at all so far but I'll get to that in a minute. Up to Bat is pretty awesome. It started a little slow for me but when it took off IT. TOOK. OFF. I ...more

I really like telling everyone before I go into a review that will end in a cliff hanger. I was very surprised and not looking to see another book, but what leads up to the end will have to be taken care of in the next book. With that being said this is not going to be a normal review for me. I can't give you a lot of details because I think that would mess the book up for the reader, but I have to tell you, this is a must read. This is not a a typical romance and that takes a backseat wi

This book wasn’t what I expected. I seriously had a confused look on my face for most of the book. Not in a bad way just a totally confused as to what was happening way. I thought despite reading the synopsis that this was a college romance with some mystery. Well let’s take out college for the last leg of the book and replace it with a safe house and so many confusing variables.

Sam has been dealt a tragic hand. Having lost her brother in the 9/11 attacks she has never truly been t

So, lets start with, I thought this would be a book about baseball, you know the ones; ball player meets girl, girl is too into school and doesn't have time for a player of any kind, but he somehow convinces her to give him a chance so she does..... Yeah, this is NOTHING like that, in fact, baseball is mentioned, but not even close to what this story is about at all!

Sam is a college student that is busy trying to live with the guilt that her brother died years ago.

"Will you stay with me tonight?"
"I want to, I'm not sure I could just hold you and not want to do more."

Have you ever heard the expression, "you think you know a person...."? Well, there's a lot of this in this book as well as mystery, danger and suspense. Add in a little steam and it makes for a great read!

Samantha "Sam" Sawyer is dedicated to her plan. Study hard. Graduate. Get her dream career in sports medicine. Well, even the best laid plans still go off the rails. Her new friendship with A

Maggie has done it again! This time with a suspenseful, slow-building romance. Oh. My. God! This book was fantastic!

I went in with no real idea what it was about, and was drawn in straight away. The characters are intriguing, especially the one playfully given the name, Thor. Now there’s a man I could happily spend my days watching.

I like that we are kept guessing throughout this book. Why is Adriana so peculiar? Who is Thor? And what the hell is going on? So many twists and turns, and lives int

Up to Bat was so much different than what I was expecting, so I'm not going to even try to describe it. Instead, this is one of those reviews where I'm just going to set my dramatic emotions free. See, for whatever reason, I thought it was going to be more about baseball, and boy was I wrong. Instead, I read a heart pounding, exciting suspenseful story filled with mystery, and I still have a ton of questions. This is the first time that I've read Maggie Jane Schuler, and I'm completely hooked to ...more

Up To Bat is the second book of Maggie Jane Schuler’s I have read. I have thoroughly enjoyed them
both. This book just blew me away. She is now one of my favorite female authors. It was full of mystery,
intrigue, and suspense with some romance, humor, and friendship thrown in along the way. The
attraction between Sam and Blake is magnetic but will his secrets and her issues keep them from finding
love? The friendship that develops between Sam and Adriana is so genuine, or is it? And what’s the d

Much more than a sport romance

This is a suspense romance with elements of sports sprinkled in. The story focuses on Sam a sport trainer student and her campus life. I enjoyed this read, Maggie Jane knows how to seed the story to keep you reading to find out what happens next. Me being an impatient reader I wanted slices of bread instead of the well placed bread crumbs, but that's just me wanting the mystery in full bloom! I really enjoyed Blake and his flirting but I was frustrated with Sam and

Alright, so this book just totally screwed me over with the end!! Gah, I need this next book immediately. So if you don't like cliffhangers, wait until the next book is ready! Please, you will be saving yourself from so much anguish...Onto the book itself. I thought the characters were interesting and complex and I also really enjoyed the plot line and the sports aspect of the sports romance. That's not always the case with sports romances, but Schuler was able to get me to connect with the spor ...more

Going into this read, I was expecting a sweet baseball centric romance story and ended up getting so much more!!!! This was a loosely based sports romance but had incredible suspense, secrets and drama! I was on the edge of my seat the entire read! Half from wanting a love story to evolve and half from the chaos and thrillers that were taking place in the book!

I loved Thor/Blake/Agent Angel. Swoon!!!!!!

The cliffhanger was perfect and I can’t wait for book 2 in the series to find out what happen

S'okay

First of all I know that I'm probably part of the minority with my opinion, but this book didn't blow me away. First of all it was slow to me, I felt that the pace could have been faster. The writing was also rather formal and stilted. It was like reading a book by someone who'd learned to write rather than someone who could write. All of the mechanics were there, but it lacked heart. I didn't believe any of the characters. All of their emotions seemed forced. The thing that really got me

Another hit by Maggie Jane!
Absolutely loved the book. Sam and Blake are a good blend of maturity and innocence, snark and seduction. Sam, with her quick wit and spontaneous actions, drives Blake, and his methodical planned routine, nuts. The two together are one big learning curve-ball. Throw in a little mystery theater intrigue, and it's out of the park!
Great story, great characters, a sneaky plot line, and a cliff hanger to boot!
Can't wait for Up to Bat part Deux!

I absolutely loved this book. I was not happy at all with the ending. This ending was a huge cliffhanger. It left me with such a book hangover. Maggie did an amazing job leaving you wanting more from this book. I absolutely loved Sam . She was a broken girl dealing with so much but stayed as strong as she could through everything. A case of mistaken identity throws her life into turmoil. That is where this book gets interesting . I absolutely loved the suspense of where this book was going. I ca ...more

The story of college Junior Samantha dealing with guilty from her past. She meets a freshman who she mentors but feels there's something not quite right. Enter the Athletics department team member Blake. He makes Sam feel things she's confused about feeling and just needs a friend because life is throwing her some curve balls.

Second half of book went much quicker and really got into the story...

SPOILER ALERT:

It's a cliffhanger!

So good! Kept me guessing all the way through and moves at a fast clip. Sam is ready to finish college thinking she has everything all figured out but she quickly finds out everything is not as it seems when she meets a new student with more than her share of secrets. Enter a mysterious and equally sexy Blake Angel that keeps popping up at places he should have no reason and yet seems to have believable explanations. I'm so ready for part 2 to see how this all plays out!

What can I say about this book without giving too much away.....Ugh Maggie you're killing me. I need book 2 right now. Yes it's that good. If you love suspense romance this book is amazing. fanning myself over Blake and Sam's chemistry. The whole fighting it build up is so worth it. I really can't wait to see where this series goes. I have a feeling it's going to be a hell of a ride. This one is already pulling at the heartstrings.
