Wonderful third (and last?) part of the Alfie Bloom series. I love how each Alfie book isn't just a simple continuation, but they have their own themes and story of their own. There's magic and adventure on every page, but it's the friendships that make these books stand out. Great storytelling and memorable characters make this a must read series.

I am still really enjoying this series. At the start I wasn't sure whether I was going to enjoy it as much as the previous two, but then I ended up staying up until 1am to finish it sooo... ;-)

My favourite thing about these books is still the friendships. Alfie and his cousins/friend are a real team even if they bicker occasionally. I'm interested to see where the series will go now that the main adversary has been dealt with.

Three stars feels generous. But two stars feels awful. So here we are. I really enjoyed the original Alfie Bloom book, "Secrets of Hexbridge Castle." The two sequels have been less impressive, but I'll continue to read them if Gabrielle Kent keeps writing them.

They feel like an ultra lite version of Harry Potter, with the kids and the magic and the castle. But they're very light, with little world building or emotional connection. The characters are sweet but that's it. The story is easy to read
