About the author

Andrea, a Brigham Young University graduate, is an avid reader and outdoor enthusiast (hiking, fishing, boating, biking, spending time in the Rocky Mountains, and taking walks). She spent a year and a half serving the Spanish speaking community in Toronto, Canada, and fluently speaks 2 ½ languages. She plays several instruments, not including the banjo, and loves putting together musical arrangements. Her favorite sports are basketball and football, though several knee surgeries and incurably awful coordination prevent her from playing them.

Andrea is always in the mood for a good movie with close friends and family (especially her husband and mom), with a large glass of milk and a bowl of overly buttered popcorn nearby. She also enjoys oil painting, making earrings, squeezing every bit of oxygen out of Ziploc bags, and she hopes to someday travel to Italy and Alaska.

Well, this was fun, in a jaw-dropping kind of way! So, Ridge, a troubled boy at junior high, uses a magic spell to secretly bring Hitler back from the dead as a teenage exchange student. What was he thinking? Well, actually, we don’t get to find out. Nor why Hitler goes along with it. Anyway, soon their hand-picked elite group is setting the school in an uproar. The book is told from the point of view of Ridge’s former friend, Carter, who to frustrate Hitler’s undoubtedly eeevil plans tries the desperate counter-measure of bringing his Greatest Opponent back to life to attend junior high too.

Yes, it’s silly. And a bit scary. You have to feel for Carter who can’t explain the situation and really doesn’t know what to do. And nor do the teachers know how to cope. Churchill’s contribution seems to be to threaten to bop people with a fire extinguisher. There’s a little bit of history here, but not much in the way of reflection or analysis. When things get going, it’s all out action and logistics in a realistic school setting. A quick read and a real boy-pleaser. I haven’t read the other two stories in the series, so I had to take the magic at face value, but generally I thought it worked as a stand-alone.

World War School is the third book in the Ranch City Academy series. You can read this book as a standalone, but it would make more sense if you have read the previous books. If you like fantasy, magic and adventure, you will like this book and the series. There is some violence and use of magic.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. Considering that this is a short book, the characters are well written. The author does a good job of summarizing the storyline from the first two books for new readers. The story keeps a steady pace throughout the book to keep this reader interested. It keeps you guessing what twists and turns will be revealed in the pages ahead. While this book is written for middle schoolers, this adult I enjoyed this book too.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I enjoyed it so much that I also bought a copy of this book to have for when my grandchildren grow old enough to read it.
This story is geared for our younger readers, recommended for grade levels 3-6. I would truly have enjoyed it at that age.
While this story could be read without reading books 1 or 2 in the series, there is greater excitement and understanding of some subtle nuances if the others are read prior to this one.
Told from the point of view of Carter, we get to figure out along with him just whom his former friend Ridge has brought back from the dead **this** time. Doubting his own ability to make a difference, we ride the rollercoaster with him of dismay, excitement, doubt, and accomplishment.

Carter is in Jr. High and only sees Ridge in one class. He is relieved by that. One day Ridge picks a fight with Carter and Carter wins. Ridge stomps away very angry. A few days later Ridge brings a German exchange student to school by the name of Alois Schickl Gruber. Carter realizes Ridge has brought someone back to life but he doesn't know who. Time for some computer work. He finds out Alois Schickl Gruber is Hitler's father's name.
School is slowly being torn apart...kids teasing others and no one can stop them. Carter realizes he must bring back Winston Churchill, since he has defeated Hitler twice. He does and the story really gets exciting.
The author, Andrea Pearson, and illustrator, James Curwen, have created a book that can teach each and everyone of us a lesson. It is a book all children should read.

My five star review is purely for the middle school aged reader. With few rare exceptions (eg, the Harry Potter series) there’s not a huge crossover between that group and adult readers. Nevertheless, my children (now in Hugh School and university) were all readers at that age and I used to read along with them and can well remember what’s good and what’s not. This book is considerably good. A rollicking adventure that brings back Hitker and Churchill to fight it out in middle school. Frankly a lot of fun for the middle schooler that still resides in me to some degree and much more do for an actual middle schooler.

Carter is a student in junior high. It isn't easy for him, he gets picked on by Ridge a lot. They learn about Second Worlds War and Hitler in school. Ridge asks few suspicious question in class and next day they get new exchange student from Germany. He and Ridge are very bad influence on all the students, school gets each day. Carter figures out that new student is actually young Hitler. He knows that he has to do something, but the problem is no one believes him. So he decides to resurrect Churchill from the dead. They will have to join forces to help sending Hitler back.

It's a nice story, full of action and history snippets intertwined with the story. I had a bit of trouble getting into the story in the first half.

After learning a spell to bring the dead back to life a few years ago, Ridge didn't learn why this is not a good idea. Carter used to be his best friend. He however; knows bad things can happen when the dead come back. This time Ridge brings back Hitler. Things immediately start to go bad, very bad! Can Carter come up with a plan to stop them? Read this exciting story to find out! Ms. Pearson has a great way of telling a story. You and your kids will love this book!

When I finished reading World War School, the third Ranch City Academy book, to my boys, my 9-year-old declared that it was the best one yet. Facts about World War II, Hitler, and Churchill are woven throughout the book. I recommend reading this book (and the others in the Ranch City Academy series – you don’t absolutely have to read them in order). It makes a great family read-aloud!

If you think your middle school was a nightmare, try attending with one of history's villains brought back to life. Will WWII repeat itself on the middle school level? Nice respect for history while embracing the chaos of middle school in this story from a series that is still a pleasant stand alone tale.

The last book in the Ranch City Academy series draws the action to a climax as the characters have chosen their moral standings. The conflict is more black and white, even while the behaviors and development might seem grey and clouded. Cause and effect play out to bring an exciting conclusion to the series.
